Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Anyone care to enlighten what happened? I feel like I missed out on some more disappointment

BWS stores have been (at random) reducing a lot of their premium wines to clear stock. Cullen Diana Madeline has been popping up for $70 (vs $140 BWS normally and A$125 elsewhere). Rarely discounted and a great drop.

I cleaned BWS Paddington South Dowling Street out of their 5 a month ago.

Very few left, so timing has to be perfect.

Can you see this online or only in store. No stock near me at the moment, but I will be going past a store that has a few bottles tomorrow.

Lethbridge Wines Botrytis Riesling TBA 2018 - JH99 - 375ml $77 @ Cloudwine
In the 25 years of Lethbridge Wines this is only the second time that the conditions have enabled such a wine to be made, the first time was 2011. Back then we thought that we had made a once in a lifetime wine and have held onto it tightly. This 2018 vintage has revealed that nature is indeed cyclical, although seemingly random, maybe it will be another 7 years until we can do this again, maybe 27 but this time we want to be generous and share this exceptionally rare wine, only 1333 bottles produced.

now added: Houghton Wisdom Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 - JH97, BW18.4 - $26.67 after $20 referral

now $23.33 @ Cellar One after $20 referral - 2 left :)

if you're now interested to try more Barolo, then perhaps consider Linnaea Trifulau Barolo 2013 - GW94 - $60 (free delivery with any 3 bottles), possibly the best value one since Cascina Fontana Barolo 2013 (though there is also Trediberri Barolo 2016) - even better is that its producers are now local Melburnians

now free delivery for $70+ orders @ Linnaea:
  • Linnaea Apica 2017 Moscato D’Asti $30 - GW94
  • Linnaea Allora 2019 Cortese Dell’Alto Monferrato $35 - GW94
  • Linnaea Oblio 2018 Cabernet Franc Heathcote $40 - GW94
  • Linnaea Trifulau 2013 Barolo $60 - GW94
15% cash back at Dan Murphy’s on wine through ShopBack
excludes penfolds collection 2020, which I assume means all penfolds products

no, just the ones recently released this year - Penfolds 2020 Collection Release

Any recommendations from Dans.

Mount Mary Quintet 2013 $77.21 + Delivery after 15% ShopBack, 5% off WISH

Whats wrong with the 2018 Grenache? It scored merely 1.5 points less than 2019. Is there such a big difference between both vintages? I got both but didn’t try any yet.

it's not a linear scale, difference between 95+ and 97 on tWf can be significant to some, not quite a percentile basis but similar

Just because they have it won't mean it's on special. Each store differs significantly.

Wine Clearance @ BWS
That Mount Mary 2013 seems to be out of stock... had me scrambling for a moment!

A nearby BWS has the Moss Wood 2017 Cab Sav for $70 or $66.50 if using GC's. I haven't had this before - does anyone think that is a good deal at that price?

BWS's full retail is a bit of a joke, but if you find $50+ reds at 50% off on clearance it is almost always going to be a good price. Generally speaking, the higher the red wine price the less the margin.

Yes, I think it is a very good deal - assuming you like MR Cabernet

Anyone had any experience with the Serafino mclaren vale reserve grenache? Has been added to a couple of BWS clearance stores at $18 a bottle in a 6 pack, I just grabbed a bunch then along with Teusner joshuas coming in at $15 each.

Needed some decent quaffers

yeah the bws website is absolutely atrocious, the worst out of all the major liquor retailers

sometimes, discounts get applied incorrectly, it says buy 6 for 25% off, but it applies to one bottle, or you apply 6, then remove 5 to get discount,

good to keep an eye out, as sometimes you get a screaming bargain

eg. I realised that an order I placed and assumed I picked up a year ago, said "yet to be collected" so I called up and they gave me a refund

eg. one time I went to pick up 3 cases of beer in one order, got there, got told 1 ready, 1 processing, 1 sold out, so "take 2, and one will be refunded"
next day got a refund for 2 from that order, and 1 from another order from 2 weeks ago from a different store that I had already picked up
