I'm not in a position to check on this as I'm travelling. Referrers have always received points. Perhaps you can reproduce the term which states referers do not receive referral credits anymore?

Agree with Dr Ralph. I haven't had an issue receiving a referral credit if the applicant already held a non-DJ AMEX.

Here is the specific term from the DJ referral page :

  • You cannot refer a friend who already has one of our cards or has applied for one in the last 18 months.

I believe these have always been the standard terms for referrals of all amex cards. However in the past until at least May -June I have received the referral points even if the card holder has not received their bonus points for being an existing card holder. ( I have stated that in this forum , is it possible AMEX monitors this forum and identified me via my referral link and closed the loophole)
And when I have chased up delayed bonus referral points with CS they have advised they need to confirm if the referee is an existing card holder.
However I did not receive the bonus points for my 2 referrals last month for the essentials card who were existing cardholders by virtue of my previous referrals for the edge.

I think you have misunderstood things. A person who has had a DJ AMEX within the last 18 months cannot get the bonus again. So makes sense that you would not get any points for referral. What you have provided says nothing about all other situations.

What you wrote in message #139 is also inconsistent with the term you have provided. In message #139 you stated nothing about this relating to existing DJ Amex card holders.

It does`nt state DJ amex card but `one of our cards` so any amex card.

Has anyone recently received referral points for a DJ Amex for an existing card holder( any amex ) ?

No this is incorrect.

I assume you took the term from the DJ Amex site. This then refers only to DJ Amex cards. There can be no suggestion that it has a wider meaning.

Yes I did. Ok.thanks,

And I can confirm I received bonus points in August from a person who also holds an Explorer card.

So have you been or anyone else been able to link your DJ amex to ascent or ascent premium?

I don't have an ascent card. Not sure I recall any comments about this. But given DJ Amex is a separate system I would assume it can't be done.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Hrm, dang. Seems my grand plan wasnt to be... not sure if its due to Amex wising up, or due to my credit history starting to show signs of cracking.

Tried to apply for the David Jones Platinum Card via referral link. Advised could not hold both DJ cards at once so cancelled the DJ Amex, and proceeded with the application. The T&Cs of the Platinum card specify only the Platinum DJ Card as being a reason for not qualifying for the bonus points... so figured it was worth a shot for potentially 90,000 DJ Amex points (30k referral to mrs tizey, 60k to me)

Turns out not to be - application denied. Oh well, nothing ventured and nothing gained. I do wonder if the DJ cards are assessed manually and thats why rejected?

I think it's system assessed, might be worth a shot calling them up and pointing to them that you've just closed your DJ AmEx...

Tizey, how long have you had the card now?

My experience was that i got the standard card with signon bonus and then after ~6months received an invitation to upgrade and receive another signon bonus to the platinum card.

My assumption is that if you actually use the card as intended perhaps Amex system may reward you.

Amex was also kind enough to pro rata my fees so i never had to pay the entire $99 for the first year etc when i upgraded.

Hopefully Amex follows this path with other cards, ie allows you to get Explorer and be offered singon if you upgrade to platinum etc.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

hrmm.. so an option could be to re-instate the card and hope it comes off? Or hold for 6months, and request an upgrade?

Either way - I'll ask what my options are when I call tomorrow night.

I would assume reinstate, use and see what happens when your membership period is ~6months

This offer is due to end 31st August 2017

Despite the title, existing links still generate 50,000 point signon bonus + potential to add a supplementary card holder for 5000 additional bonus during activation of card (via phone - as Amex agent this applies to other amex cards as well)

Timely reminder. I've really valued this card. So many options to spend your points.
