Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Hi all, I'm considering this one and will definitely be using a referral link from this thread. I've never had a DJ AMEX but still don't entirely understand if this will impact my 18mo exclusion for a regular AMEX? I'm waiting since cancelling the AMEX Premium last year and don't want to 'reset the clock' on my 18 months.

You can have this DJ Amex even if you have had any other Amex card in the past 18 months except another DJ Amex card. EG I had an Explorer card and applied for a DJ Amex at the same time. But I believe if you get this DJ Amex card it will impact future exclusion periods.

Thanks Dr Ralph, that's what I was worried about. I'll call them just in case...

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Just called them and "Terry" was very friendly & insisted that the DJ card and vanilla AMEX are treated as separate products. He very specifically said that getting one won't impact my 18mo wait for the regular AMEX bonus but that he wasn't able to put that in writing.

Any tips on getting info from AMEX in writing? I only found a phone # and no contact form.

You could try your online chat from your current AMEX account and keep a copy of the conversation.

Thanks Dr Ralph. I was excited that I could still log in, but it looks like they've disabled the livechat and email options since I don't have an active card... Great idea though!

Mine wasn't working when I checked yesterday either. Perhaps try during business hours?

Alternatively, you might have to communicate via Dr Ralph's favored method of card cancellation - snail mail.

Will do thanks! Else snail mail it is ...

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

If I opt for MR points, will these sweep into my Ascent Premium account associated with my Plat Charge?

TIA.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

It is my impression that it does not impact the 18 months. But, I too would want to somehow get that in writing. I suggest you chat online to the Amex direct people and ask them, getting it straight from the horses mouth so to speak and keep an online chat copy of that conversation. After all, that's the card that you're wanting to get again eventually.

I don't think David Jones has an online chat.

I've never been able to make it come up. Where/how/when does it work?
For me it appears at the bottom right of the screen in a bubble that floats above the page and says the word 'chat'. This is of course whilst logged in.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

It doesn't seem to be an option for me, probably because I don't have any active cards. When I log in and go to "Contact Us", the LiveChat box appears blank and it says email servicing is unavailable.

For those that hadn't noticed this card is now up to 50,000 points if you sign up via a referral link (mine below). Definitely a card that I would recommend. Numerous airline and hotel reward partners that you can transfer your points to. Great earning rate too!

Remember that you can still have this card even if you current have or have had another AMEX card in your possession within the last 18 months, except if that was already a David Jones AMEX card.

Note: Offer ends August 31.

Got it! Seemed to be a problem with Chrome. Worked with IE.

After using a referral link from this thread I'm throwing my hat in the ring for a referral for this card. Not sure why it isn't more popular. Remember you can get this card even if you've had another AMEX card within the last 18 months. It's good for some quick points to use towards Velocity or SPG but there are plenty of other options to convert the points as well.

If you are so kind as to use my link I'll score 20,000 points and you will get an additional 10,000 points compared to signing up without using a link (40,000 points in total).

I just used your link, BettyB, so keep an eye out for your bonus points, assuming I am approved.

I take it the usual limit of a two card maximum applies? Linked Explorer & Edge, would have to give one up?

The 2 credit card limit does not include the DJ cards, so you can hold 3 credit cards so long as one is a DJ card.

No. David Jones is a separate system. Quite odd really. But take advantage of it if you can.

Update: I received an SMS today requesting I call about my application. I was told (by the Asian subcontinent based call centre) operator and her supervisor that I would have to cancel one of my existing credit cards (Edge or Reserve) in order to proceed with the DJ credit card application.

Should I HUACA or have the rules changed?

I currently hold 2 seperate Amex cards and the DJs card. Application for DJ wasn't recently.

I have a friend who just applied using my link ( with 2 existing non DJ Amex cards) and I just got an email saying I received the referral points.

Doesn't answer your question but I've not heard of any issues with this until I read your post. I'd call again and try calling the platinum or reserve line in the hope that you get an Aussie or American. My money's on you getting the card without cancelling others
