Looks like a good deal. Does anyone know when will this deal finish?

No date specified as far as I am aware. But Amex offers often change every few months and this offer has been open now for around two months so I would act soon if you are interested.

I managed to cancel the card before the annual fee appeared. Nice 20k SPG top-up to help with the next Marriott Travel Package!

This card is unique amongst Amex products: You are eligible for the sign-up bonus even if you have recently held or currently hold an Amex card!!

^You just can't have held a DJ branded Amex card in the last 18mths.

Key features:

- 40k Membership Rewards Points = 20k SPG Points = 60k Marriott Rewards Points
- 3 MR ppd at Supermarkets and Petrol Stations / 2 MR ppd at David Jones / 1 MR ppd everywhere else
- Free gift wrapping with David Jones
- Free delivery on online orders with David Jones
- Annual Fee: $99

At $99 for 40k MR points this card presents much better value than the current Amex Explorer offer. Many (including myself) have also been able to churn the card before the annual fee hits.

I would be extremely appreciative of anyone who uses this link as the points will go towards travel for my Honeymoon. We receive a 20k point referral bonus for your successful application.

If you recently closed the account how are you able to still get referral credits? Or did you close the account and open another one straight away?

Partner and I both got a card. We're keeping one and closed the other as soon as the points credited.

I cant seem to locate the transfer rate directly to Airlines

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

1 membership point = 0.75 Qantas point

There are a large number of different transfer partners. Some examples include:

Air New Zealand: 200 Membership Rewards points = 1 Airpoints Dollar
Asia Miles: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 Asia Mile
Emirates Skywards: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 Skywards mile
Singapore KrisFlyer: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 KrisFlyer mile
Velocity: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 Velocity point

Or was there another airline you were thinking of?

Dr Ralph,

Enjoy reading your posts, so used your referral and just got the "You're approved email", so you should get some points your way.

So the trick is just spend 3 times, close straight after getting the points (assuming not referring somebody else) and avoid the $99 fee?

Looks like AMEX have fixed their online application problems so time to get on board.

40,000 AMEX Member Rewards points on offer for a $99 annual fee (you only get 30,000 points if you don't use a referral link).

As long as you have not held a David Jones AMEX card within the last 18 months you can apply (so no 18 month exclusion period applies for other AMEX cards. IE. It matters not if you have recently cancelled another AMEX card or still hold that AMEX card – you'll still get the bonus points).

Very easy to trigger the bonus points – just spend 3 times at places other than David Jones.

My referral link:

I will receive 20,000 points should you be kind enough to use my referral link.

If you intend to cancel then yes. You should get at least 2 weeks before the annual fee is charged to the account. Bonus points credited very quickly for me

But it's not a bad card to keep in my view (at least in the short term). High points earning potential. Additional 4 supp cards in the first 12 months for free and participation in the cash back offers from AMEX (25% off $40 at BP is a good current example) made it hard for me to cancel this card straight away.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

So if I'm understanding how the DJ card works

The MR points earned are worth half the miles when compared to the MR points earned via an Edge card?

So the current offer is 40K MR points that can be converted to 20K miles with SQ / CX / VA for a fee of $99?

Yes, you're correct. Airline miles don't represent the best value with this card.

However, SPG transfers are also 2:1 which represents great value.

ah OK. so transfer to SPG and then get the 5K bonus with the airline.

2.5c per point is not the cheapest, but not too bad.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Hey i think you will be pleasantly surprised if you check your maths once more.

Additionally you can (potentially) get 30,000 AA miles for 20,000 SPG. They run the promotion every year around August/September

If you're purely after airline miles, yes that's your best way to go (but note it's more like 0.4c/mile). I was referring to using SPG points for actual hotel stays.

However, if you wish to use it for airline miles and you already have a bank of SPG points, consider a Marriott Travel Package. 90k SPG points = 7 nights in a Cat 5 Marriott + 132k United miles or 120k AA miles

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Hi,

I'm wondering how other people's experience compares to mine:
- Signed up and received my card a few weeks ago.
- On the 14th and 15th June made 4 transactions totaling a little over $100.
- They are all listed on the "Transaction Summary" page along with 40,000 bonus points which was associated with the 3rd transaction.
- On the 19th June 80 points were removed from the account as part of the transfer, with the corresponding QFF 60 points showing up on Qantas site.
- Of the 4 transactions, none of the transactions or combination of transactions equalled 80 points.
- Nowhere on the DJ site showed the total DJ points, only the transactions which one would have to manually add up.

A quick call to the help desk revealed the following:
- Points are only transferred once a month - being the 19th of every month.
- Confirmed that my total points was 40000+ (134 earned minus 80 transferred) and at the same time acknowledged that the site was not flash not having a "total", yet still having a "total transferred to QFF" which was on the front page.
- Had no idea how only 80 points were transferred and not the full whack, although investigating and will get back to me. Concern that the 19th July another hiccup may occur.
