Qld is God's own country and we don't need daylight saving - just a change in Government.

Agreed (except for the DS) - It's only a matter of time......although the little General's starting to lose his gloss

Nicely done! And I thought I was the #*%# stirrer!! You've now got daylight savings, naz_s, politics........and religion into the one thread.

Who said firecracker night was dead

I've found the 3 hour time difference to WA to be much more of a hassle. Yet no one here has so far demanded that WA adopt DS.

I demand that WA adopt DS. You can't get a hold of anyone until midday, and the ba$^@rd$ call you at 7.30pm before 'they' go home :)

No actually the vote against was from north Queensland and western Queensland, the places that don't need more sun. I know I was in cairns for one of trial years and it was disgusting. The vote for daylight savings was mostly in the south east, the area that would benefit for daylight savings. No massive surprise in that result.

IIRC there were also people in SEQ who did want it however voted against it in support of their country cousins out west who did not.

It's even worse flying to CBR from BNE for a morning meeting. Getting up at 3am to catch the 5:30 flight is NOT fun.

.....or getting up at 0200 to start work at 0330 because the first flights are at 0500. Seeing the boarding time of 0440 on a boarding pass looks weird. More a night owl than an early bird so 4 hours sleep becomes the norm.

When I drove cabs in Brisbane, I rather liked an early sunrise, because it encouraged the drunks to go home and that got me home once they were tucked up.

I often see people spilling out of the pub around 0300 on my way to work but saw a sight I hadn't seen before last week - a guy in a motorised wheelchair (no lights of any kind) on the road albeit close to the gutter then beside him was a cyclist (also no lights) holding on to the back of the wheelchair hitching a ride.

Talking of cyclists, what's the go with cyclists putting several cable ties on their bike helmets so they look like antennae? I can't imagine what purpose that would serve.

As someone who has had a couple of late night hospital visits involving bikes and such I'll abstain from commenting. Other than to say bloody idiots like that just don't realise the trouble they'll cause the driver if they get hit.

Not sure about the cable ties. To hang something from? Or to hold the hard shell on? I have a friend who does proper cycling I'll ask if I remember.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

I think it's to stop the magpies that or they want a lot of attention!

First rate defence against magpies-----very protective & lovely creatures.

Hmm, so how does it work? The magpie gets within a few metres, see's the ties, bursts out laughing and crashes into the ground?

Maybe a university study is needed to find the optimal cable tie strategy

Well dont go to Dutch Harbour,Alaska. There it is the Bald Eagles that do the dive bombing. They nest all over town. Now they really make a dent.

As to magpies when I lived in the Hunter the magpies nested in a neighbours tree.I used to feed them an odd earthworm or two when gardening. So Mum Magpie would sit on my shoulder waiting for a worm.If one of the particulasrly pesky kids from the area was riding his bike down the street the maggie would fly off, dive bomb him, then fly back and sit on my shoulder.

Never been attacked by a magpie. I encourage them to come into my garden. Have had many generations in now. I do not feed them any more, but let them dig up their natural food.

I have been swooped by the swines and generally prefer a cricket bat or tennis racquet to cable ties...
