Denali Demo and Rebuild

We received our 1st stage invoice (for slab works) and paid, even though the bank put us through the wringer to determine if we're being scammed so we could transfer the monies (which is appreciated).

Was not expecting anything today but the plumbers moved in and started external drainage

I think you are lucky with progress. All sorts of horror stories in SA.

When's it gunna be on Grand Designs? :)

Hahahaha, we're not fancy enough for that. Just give us a boring house with a lousy view.

Ive read comments of a few forums about SA issues. We have about 14 houses being built around us and except for the neighbour across the road, they have all been plodding along since January, which is good because it means there are tradies and supplies available.

Do you know the builder for neighbour?
Builder has signage on the temp fencing... so I know who to avoid in future,.

I was wondering what made them go with that builder? Not well known, no ads on tv ect so why them? Maybe they thought a smaller builder would be safer? Considering the price on the DA they didnt go cheap.

More frames delivered today and it swung very close to one of the cameras (photo below) and the portaloo was cleaned/emptied (no phots taken 🤣 ). Portaloo gets cleaned every fortnight... unlike the one across the road, which you can smell when walking near it.

Just wondering. Does anyone on site know about the cameras? Some workplaces get antsi about such as it may expose them to be seen to “ do the wrong thing”.

Which in your view is “exactly “, but in their it may be “ down tools”.

Yes, we point them out to the workers plus the builders company director/part owner has "liked" a number of my posts in a builders group and a couple of their staff follow me on instagram.

But note, cameras are on different property and are for security - especially the randoms who show up so we can turn them off during the day when asked but then we could just sit out there and watch. We try not to go outside/watch when they are here.

Hopefully we've gone out of our way for the workers, we've given out a few "thanks" vouchers, installed outdoor GPOs for them to charge batteries, installed tap (usually not done until later in the build) and once chippies & brickies show up, hope to offer them goodies to keep them happy as well.

I imagine having the owner of the build living next door is a bit uncommon. They could get used to all the special treatment. 😊

If we come out, initially they think we're snoopy neighbours but once we say we're the owners their manner changes to being friendly but we really try to leave them alone. Although hubby, who has a new kebab store obsession, wants to shout them kebabs on Fridays but I might fire up the weber.

Got to find a big esky on my FB group because we also want to keep some drinks for them - even thought the nights are cold, the days are 25+degs lately and forecasted for the next 2 weeks so far.

Steel grams are more difficult - easy to find the steel studs but screw will not be as strong as the timber screws in load holding - often need special toggle anchors as frames are thin and the screw threads are few so can pull out. Pictures Ok but something heavy apparently need toggle anchors or similar

SS visited yesterday and said chippies will be on site next week and today we got an email, advising bricks should be delivered May 24th.

Poor neighbour across the road, different builder, still no slab.
