Given its a regular and predictable event that occurs this time every year, offering it to all would make it worthless to QF, as we could all plan our year knowing April is double SC time. offering it to targeted recipients means you cannot rely on it.

If this is a low period for bookings, and mileage runs are far from the sole motivator for people's travel plans, then I fail to see how it could be worthless if it generates a rush of new bookings that would not have otherwise been made. AA doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

Wow :0

Excuse the typos, this was sent from my iPhone using Fat fingers

Didn't AA go bust recently, that would seem to be a problem when it comes to yield!

It's just common sense, a special offer that is offered to all on a regular basis is not special. It would also mean people hold off bookings in Q1, making the revenue dip for that period as well, btw Q2 is not a low period for bookings, it's just the cut off for the fiscal year and the last chance to boost those figures.

It's a long bow to draw to connect status incentives that encourage more forward bookings to bankruptcy. One would have assumed it was any one of their 5,000 other issues that played a larger part in that. ;)

The only people holding off bookings are those making bookings for the purpose of gaining status, not for the purpose of travelling for leisure or work - which, dare I say it, is the reason most people travel. That certainly includes us to some extent, I don't disagree with that, but I'd wager we are in the vast minority - and encouraging more bookings from us, as a whole, is not a bad thing either. Also, there's no guarantee of an offer being made in the first place - I didn't say that I thought the predictable regularity was a good idea either, just the targeting. By that logic, to truly be effective, QF may as well use the data they mined during their AFF dinner competition and exclude all of us from the targeted group, since we would be making those bookings anyway (please, don't get any ideas though!) ;)

Just received this email as would many others, my beef is that I have already booked and due to fly within the required period but there is no provision to allocate points or status to booked flights.
Just to add, I have now received the email and also have flights booked - I am very happy! Glass half empty for you?

You mean holding off booking with Qantas, I am not suggesting people would not fly? During the course of the year would you not try to build up status with DJ all things being equal if you knew you were going to get a double DC offer without fail from QF, that would see see you requalified as a WP for a net cost of 56000 points and $600 as a worst case scenario status run in Australia over a weekend, in the meantime there will be times where QF is the only choice (especially in regional areas), so it's not like the status is wasted.

Predictability is the enemy of profitability/success when it comes to marketing with incentives for companies, while predictability is the friend of the customer.

There's already another thread on Qantas Double Status Credits, which could probably include discrimination, non-discrimination, "why wasn't it me" and anything else. ;)

Better to keep all the negative comments in one thread, positive/route maximisation's in the other.

Although in some ways we have all been waiting for it ;) so it might be worthless to QF.

I’m seriously considering another JASA, just as I was starting to build my points back up.

markis10, I concede the point about predictability - to use the counter example, we don't have any historical data to discern a pattern from VA (indeed, so far it seems quite random) but up until now they've been evenly spread across tiers but not at all predictable. That is the sort of thing I don't have a problem with, which is why (despite being a beneficiary) I was sad to see Virgin adopt the same approach in their last offer.

By the way samh004, I don't consider this discussion to be negative at all - we disagree but can have a reasonable and respectable exchange of our differing perspectives. That's one of the things I enjoy about this site, as opposed to some of the less than friendly religious wars that can crop up from time to time. :)

It does seem that, here on AFF, the offer is, in the main, having the desired effect. I wonder if QF will be offering "discounted" points upgrades next?

True, perhaps I used the wrong word, but I do think this thread differs enough compared to the other thread.

Not sure why this would be expected, the April double SC offer has been around for five years.

Partly tongue in cheek, but DJ is offering that. You know competition and all that!

Disappointing is all I could say.

I think it is time the Platinum level qualification was increased to 2,400 SCs and Gold 1,200 SCs and offer as many double SCs promotions as you like.

Good luck to anyone that received the promotion and would have booked Virgin instead....

If I bought a pair of pants from David Jones and found they were on sale the next week they won't offer to credit me the discounted amount. Promos are designed to generate NEW business.
Agree, And for those who bought a pair of pants and then the price went up the next week, would they feel guilty and offer David Jones a little more money in compensation, of course not. We often forget, that the first rule of life when you buy something is often that you pay the money and take your chance that it is a good deal, you usually only know that it is a good deal in hindsight.

If WP was increased to 2400 SC I wouldn’t stand a chance of getting there, and I’d imagine quite a few others would drop too, and QFF would lose members to other carriers FFP’s.

Yes, agree, sounds like inflation in a failed African state, lets increase the cost of something (the SC qualifying levels) and then print more money (give double SC opportunities). Can someone answer the question, did Virgin start all this double SC business here in AUS.

No they didn't.. I received a double SC from QF way back in feb 2007.

Qantas was offering double SCs before Virgin had a frequent flyer program, my first was in 2001.
