Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

The point of a pet is to share life..it is a two way street where both parties win.
Shut up in a cage or a kennel or a room is not sharing.
Cats are a problem.. serious escape artists who love to roam….look at Cossies constructions..
Our house is large inside but we are able to keep all the escape routes shut with screens or doors.
The back yard is cat proofed with high wobbly wire above all the fences and gates, a lot of work to establish and maintain.
There are many less challenging pets to own that a mogg…..

I'd sorta like to get a cat, but I'm in a rural area and it would have to be a 100% indoors cat - not least because the neighbours are very pro wildlife = anti free range cat and traps are deployed as necessary!! And I'm mostly of that attitude too.

But the place is designed for free traffic inside to outside - bifold doors onto the deck etc. A walled courtyard, but that would be easily scalable. Even the upstairs balcony has easy access to the roof. Hmmm - I guess I could net that off ...

So puss would often be banished to a back room for much of the day; it would have a climbing thing and all necessary comforts. That OK?
I'm semi rural. Last year a cat, looks domesticated, started appearing regularly.
Used to have dozens and dozens of fairy wrens, all now gone. Willy wagtail, gone. Would occasionally see native quails, not anymore, only the larger birds now. Bandicoots "gone". Our cats have (and demand!) an outdoor session every morning...on a leash which took a little while for them to get used to but now (been a few years) we don't even need to hold the leash, they won't run (much) knowing they're on their leash.

I think your enclosed courtyard has great potential as a cat area.

Yes. Working order, apparently.

and paper bags. And sheets... does he like to "help"you to make up the bed?
The cat I “catsit” likes to help make the bed by sitting in the middle and supervising 🤦‍♀️ Then hiding under the duvet with just the tail hanging out

My old sewing machine still works too

When I spread the sheet he attacks it, if he ends up under it, all the more exciting.
Comments here piqued my interest in the sewing machine, found the original receipt in the drawer! Was on some sort of time payment, "Final payment to Effect Purchase £1 19 . Payment in Full £24”
2.3.1932. (ie 7 weeks at basic wage £3 10s week, (was lowered during the Depression, tough times); $812 now so = about $5730. That'd buy a lot of clothes now).
Anyway, the cats use it.

The cats use it? How clever is that. What kind of clothes do they make? 😁
Sorry, couldn't resist it.
