Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Not sure if this has been discussed anywhere… but anyone have any experience importing a cat into australia? Interested to hear any tips, tricks or suggestions. Would be looking to bring a cat from Taiwan. We have the aussie and taiwanese sites for importation, with the checklists of everything we need to do. It’s pretty arduous, but manageable.

Would be interested to hear of any pitfalls or anything else we need to be mindful of, if anyone else has gone through the process.

Has anyone experience with Pancreatitis in a 15 year old cat? Hes been on Hills sensitive stomach for years and had to discontinue the hairball and dentacare hills mix when covid struck and formulations changed so likely it's been brewing for a while anyway. He's lost around 900 grams from 4 kilos to currently 3,1 in a year. Not eating much but yesterday bought some hills wet food sensitive stomach and he's eaten a couple of teaspoons. Not drinking as much. He had an antibiotic shot yesterday plus anti emetic and painkiller, the latter two only lasting a few hours I was told. Seeing the vet again this morning but just wondering I think there's a retired vet here? Maybe @tgh? Other than his pancreatitis enzymes, all his other tests were normal except for a level of dehydration which is expected from lack of drinking. So vet is thinking cancer of pancreas but a scan would tell but if it's small, it won't pick it up. We will not put him through surgery or chemo etc So to investigate further is this scan - but I don't actually see the point if it may throw a false negative? Thoughts?

a retired vet here ? tgh?

Nope..sorry although I am a fair equestrian nurse...
I have forgotten the name of the vet , he had some health issues and has not been seen for a very long time…:(

Big challenge with puss as an everyday general vet may lack sufficient specialised knowledge ; otoh you could spend a mint and get nowhere.
At 15 the best years are done and even with a mint spend there will not be a lot of upside.
My personal call would be to at least get the most informed diagnosis possible , even at some cost , as you will then be able to eventually euthanise with a clear conscience ( and a heavy heart)

Thankyou and that all makes sense.

Currently he is doing a Lazarus. On painkillers for a couple of days and seems to be eating without consequences.

Coriander was the vet but he has sadly died

Ask lots of questions about quality of life and if it’s time to go how when and where.

Google rest your paws
Oh. Coriander. Yes, sad.

You can tempt him with Temptations, our old puss mugs us for them and gets more than he should….

Cats are so contrary 🤦‍♀️

Daughter's cats have Hills Prescription Biome for gastro issues - well Oscar is the one who really needs it but as he is the Labrador of the cat world and will eat anything he can find, suggested that Sabie should have it as well so that if he wolfs down her dinner scraps, it will still be OK. I order it on line for delivery every few months.

For a couple of years now he can't even tolerate some of the Hills foods without vomiting so I don't dare try. Right now he will stay on Hills digestive soft foods which has been ok today. Have to give him squirt pain killers twice a day which he loathes. Every time I walk into the room where he is he expects me to pick him up and put him in his cage again.
