Anybody have a Cat that plucks hair out of their legs? I don't think it's an insect problem but maybe a stress/anxiety thing?
None of our past cats had this behaviour but if you think it may be related to stress, daughter has had some success with one of her cats who is quite sensitive by using Feliway as a spray and also the diffuser. She also got some herbal calming pills from the pet shop when there were strange cats appearing through the cat door and they seem to have helped as well.

Our Burmese boy was always pulling his fur out, and the fur always grew back darker. It was stress related, although really given the life he had, he should have been the most relaxed cat in the universe.
We tried feliway, but the only thing that worked with him was 'clomicalm'.

Being at the coalface I see a lot of our four legged friends swallowing everything from codeine straight, tramadol for pain, Prozac and also clomipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant as mentioned above.

They all seem to be doing wonders for the cat, and the cat behaviourist specialist.

Go figure, I wonder whether the cats and dogs when seeing their shrinks get to lie on the couch and get hand fed grapes, or pilchards.

Two weeks ago I had two of the funniest names I had seen in the animal kingdom collecting mood enhancing or controlling pharmaceuticals. The first one I believe I could have fixed with a simple name change.

Does anyone call their extremely small dog, breed xx_xx_, Bear ? Come on now, that's an inferior complexity built in for free isn't it. Change it to Tiger or Rex. I would only have charged a dollar for that one.

The second involves a 4 year old domestic shorthair cat, one I have myself as well, who went to a vet, saw a behaviourist who recommended fluoxetine, Prozac, at a very small dose. That's not the killer. the killer is the cat's name.

Roast beef. Now that is imaginative, after my Beau and my two week adopted Winx, the rather posh Norwegian Forest cat. I will post a pic soon and you can tell me whether she really is a silver tabby with a posh meow.

She had her stitches out on Friday, a booster jab and she's looking great.

She looks like she is in control of the household! :)

Are you still here? :p

Does anyone else's cat do weird things about drinking water? Ours refuses to drink out of a bowl but only drinks out of a (human) glass. There is one where he sleeps that he doesn't use much, and one, um, right next to the toilet in the bathroom. . He wont drink anywhere else.

If we are having a shower and he decides it's time for a drink he makes such a noise outside the door until we let him in. Then of course he whinges as he makes his way across the drips.

Our cat will drink out of pretty much anything (dog bowl, shower, sink an unattended glass) apart from her water bowl.

Though this seems to occur in stages, for quite some time she would sit on the bathroom vanity and give you the hurry up when you were in the shower. This has changed recently to her staring at the empty sink until you fill it up. She seems to have lost interest in the shower for now.

She is an odd thing though, evidence below:

This ones a little odd question. Winx, our one year old just had her stitches out an I have no experience with female neutering. her stitches were at the lower end of her belly and she looked like she had about 6 nipples.
Could it be that she had a litter? and what is the normal nipple count for a female cat with no kittens?
I wasn't told at the place I picked her up, I am only a tad interested as is my daughter.
Any help out there? She is such a great cat, purrs like a jag car, and is very confident. the grey boy is definitely feeling something.

This.

I keep advising my clients that their cat will (almost) never drink from the water beside/near their food unless they are desperate and then will only drink a minimum amount. You are always advised to provide water distant to their food and many cats like running water or water that has recently run maybe they think they've found a stream in the jungle?): hence they like to drink from the water in the shower recess. Whenever Mrs C and I head for a shower, we crack the tap in the adjacent bath so that it has a fine thin stream. All our cats (three) will then jump into the bath and have a long drink.

If you don't have a bath or you don't like the idea of running water, there are devices such as Drinkwell fountains (ask google) that provide recycling running water.

Laziness and inadequate water consumption are two very real risk factors for cats developing Feline Idiopathis Cystitis (FIC) or struvite (crystals) cystitis.

The above constitutes professional advice.

Good news! Tom Lonergan has signed a one year contract extension. :p

Hmmm ..... I see you are in Melbourne. I wonder if you also have Jimmy Bartels? Jimmy is a 15yo tabby with a creatinine of ~640 and bad attitude to match which makes him a "treatment challenge", but I've only given him a couple of months on his current contract. But, as you say, Tom Lonergan, a 10yo Russian Blue who lives with Jimmy in this nomenclature misguided family has just had a full profile done and all is normal.

Well I hope he was neutered as a condition of renewing his ownership if not already done.

Also I believe the law requires that microchip numbers are included in any cat transfers etc. :D

Hopefully the Cats don't neuter too many of their good bloodlines, as I am sure they will want some great kittens in future generations.

Our old cat Patsy would drink from puddles and the water feature outside in preference to a bowl, though one evening we got quite a shock to discover her lapping water from the glass that MrLtL always had on the bedside table for if he was thirsty during the night. The question was how often she had done it before
