re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

G'day folks,

I'm sitting on 635 SC with QF and I'm keen to get to SG before my membership anniversary on May 31. Unfortunately work trips appear to have dried up for me so I'll need to fund it myself on a tight budget. Can't really go through constant SYD>CBR>SYD travel without the QP for another 9 months.

The best option I've found so far is SYD>CHC return for $503 on Red e-Deals which is 20SC each way x2 = 80SC, just over $6/SC. The benefit of this is a weekend in and around Mt Cook National Park for me which is a place i've been keen to go for a while.

I know this is far less complex than some of the exotic options I've seen here, but I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have on a cheaper option.

Or forget the tasman, and make a day trip SYD-OOL r/t in Flex Y at $470 ($235 each way) with the current Double SC offer on say May 28 and you will make your 80 SC?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Any suggestions on a budget-friendly status run from MEL that would earn me 188 credits? I didn't have any travel planned before August but making it to SG could be worth a try.
MEL-BNE-HKG and return on 03 September returning 03 or 04 September is ~AUD760 and earns 180 SCs.

That's a good one and definitely more wife-friendly i think! She thinks i'm crazy going to NZ for status. Thanks heaps!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

hmm I count 140 each way so 280 r/t, 560 with DSC. tasty earn! That's one even the Pooch would wag his tail at I'm sure :)

No wide bodies to be seen. It's all the dreaded 737. ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. No wide bodies at all for AP, so would not be a Status Run. Also, probably too cheap, as it's not over $10/SC. :(

Maybe the joy that is the EK lounge in BNE would bring a spring back into an old dog's step?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Anyway I'd think with the current SC offer you can do a r/t MEL-SYD-OOL (Gold Coast) domestic run to earn 160 SC in paid J, which would be 320 doubled for $1358ish at $4.24/SC as I make it :) Saves worrying about dutches, passports and lots of hours in 737's :)

I like this! Thanks. On Saturdays flight QF862 arrives in OOL at 14:10. Is it cutting it fine booking a return on QF865 at 15:10. Would it be the same plane?

Edit: I figured out how to check the planes myself and it's been the same plane.

MEL-BNE-HKG and return on 03 September returning 03 or 04 September is ~AUD760 and earns 180 SCs.

Thats after application of DSC offer, but yes a nice alternative to the trans-ditch flights

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

I priced up ADL-xBNE-AKL return in J today at about $2050. I'll leave it to others to work out the earning. ;)
How do you get it that cheap?

I looked at the multi-city booking for MEL-SYD-AKL or MEL-BNE-AKL and it was well over $3k

That's because there are direct flights from MEL to AKL, so you pay a penalty creating a longer route. There are no direct ADL-AKL flights on QF as far as I know...

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Taken off my useless waffle as this is not the discussion thread.
Edit: OR is this the discussion thread?
Either way, I am going to get kicked.
ADL - SYD (15/07) overnight. Y class.
SYD - CHC (16/07) morning EK flight QF flight number. F class.
Coming back in comfort Y.
End of Jun 16, 550, Jul flights 190 (not able to use DSC-not enough rental income to make the bookings with this current DSC emailed offer).=740 QF SC end of Jul 16.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Can someone have a look with me, I'm in need of 105 (!) SCs for SG by August to prepare for a trip in December which we unfortunately can't book until other factors are addressed.

I'm in Canberra mostly or Melbourne for the next few weeks and can spare a Friday afternoon/Saturday for a little flying...

Best I can find is (flex-Y)MEL-xSYD-OOL rt (edeal)OOL-MEL for 55 base SCs, all on 14 May for $448 at $8.14/base sc

Is there some other routing that I can use that will be cheaper, and hit exactly the base 55 required SCs? I'm pretty happy with this routing but it's an optimisation game now.

He's being a bit clever and playing on the NZ kiwi accent for "Ditch" as in the tasman sea.

LOL thanks, I would have never figured that one out. Domestic sounds good, I did a few months of MEL-AKL for work and didn't enjoy being paranoid about having fruit/nuts in my bag. Not something I'm used to dealing with!

Sounds lovely, I literally just got back from HKG and would return in a heartbeat. But my membership anniversary is Aug 31 so I thought the flights have to be completed before then to count?

They could count to retaining/gaining status in your next membership year. It is probably unlikely that there will be another double SC offer for quite some time so you may wish to do a run this membership year and one next membership year.

The offer is valid for flights to mid-April 2017. I just booked some for Feb and March next year. Talk about planning ahead!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

BNE - CNS QF784

CNS - BNE QF655

The flight into CNS would arrive at 4:25pm and the flight out of CNS would leave at 5:10pm. Is this running it a bit close? Would I be likely to miss the flight if my plane ran late (or would they use the same plane for the return flight to BNE) and if I did miss a connection due to a flight running late what would happen?

It's a turn-around flight.. same aircraft. You won't miss the boat.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Folks, any cost-effective suggestions for 340 status credits (pre DSC) ex-SYD before 31 Aug?

Search ADL-AKL return. Pick the options via BNE. They're not available every day of the week.

CBR-OOL, maybe.
