I need 5 SC's to attain Silver, should I just do a cheap $100 Jetstar run?
Do check both Jetstar and Qantas. And of course, you only need 1 accruing flights so the return wouldn't need a pack (or vice versa).

And my turn to ask a question... my +1 will be 55 short of gold. She does not value status, and 100% of her flights will be on the same booking with me (as a WP till at least next March). Is it worth doing any sort of run?

How much do you value the status bonus (i.e. extra points on flights) she would get as SG?

If she always flies with you that's the key benefit of SG, the extra points she would get that could be put towards upgrades or award bookings.

dropping from gold may actually be more valuable - she'll get 1 x Qantas Club pass which can be given away to a family member (saving them ~$50 over the ones on ebay)

The +1 doesn't really need any status at all, if 100% of her flights will be with you. Your WP status will provide the lounge/flight benefits for you and the +1.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, and the benefits mentioned by the others are rather minimal. The status bonus for gold vs silver is only an extra 25%. It's nice to have but it's hard to justify earning the 55 SCs to get there.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Any round continental US trip can be planned in June out of any New York airports, flying Economy with the budget of ~700-800 AUD?

Sorry never done these. Also i assume i dont need to do security while catching connecting flights in Continental US.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I have been sitting on this for a while and have decided to act to try to achieve QFWP for the first time, after many years of comfortably achieving SG solely on Y. I'm hoping to tap into the wisdom of the experts on this site to use the best $/SC routes with any current known dollar specials available.

So, the question: What is the most 'time efficient' way to attain 580 status credits?
Two departure options, needing to return to the point of departure at the end of the run: MNL or New York (JFK or LGA or EWR)
Month of departure: June 2016

Hope you can assist - thanks in advance.

Unfortunate that you had not capitalised on the DSC offer, it would have been quite affordable...all the best with the search

Don't forget the "soft landing" though the following year

Thanks. Any recommended routes departing NY?

Maybe look at JFK-LAX rt in Y then LAX - JFK - PTY rt in F Might actually take 2.5- 3 days, an overnight and redeye probably unavoidable: around $1000-$1100 AUD circa 600+ SC. PHX-JFK looks like it earns 150 SC. Something like JFK-BOS-DCA-CMH-MIA-PTY-MIA-JFK can get circa 400SC. but YMMV. Also. depends on when you are traveling - you only said June.

Of course, if money is no object then it is simple, limited only by your imagination.

Thanks.
I tried: LGA-DFW-MIA-SJU (ret) in F with the MIA-SJU-MIA in J to reap 600SC. But it priced out at $1500, so was looking for slightly cheaper options.
Any thoughts on this?
And to ask what I think is the obvious: when decided, is this OK to book on AA.com (the US website) linking to a QFF membership number?
Any other tips are welcomed?

LGA-SFO with a few stops in between can be had for around $1600 AUD rtn (480-520 SC) but not this close to departure.

It is getting pretty close to June, but what you've found there looks ok to me. Isn't that $2.50/SC? Booking on AA US site is fine.

I would have thought $1500 for 600 SC was good value?

Yes, that how you should do it to guarantee you get the SCs.
