Can you get an Australia departure that arrives early next morning, and then departs later in the day but on a different date to the departure?

From what I can find the SYD and MEL services into DPS are both around 9pm (there’s an earlier JQ arrival that won’t price for me), with the aircraft turning around. So if I can’t do a same day turnaround I have to wait 25 hours for the next QF flight out.

Ah, I see. There's probably a good reason they don't allow this - I don't think it's possible to make this connection!

In theory I should be able to as it’s the same aircraft turning around but it’s not bookable in one ticket. I also don’t know if there’s a transit path from arrivals back up to departures - if I have to clear immigration and come back in I might hit queues.

Doesn't seem to have stopped people doing same plane 1 hour turnarounds in Noumea. It couldn't be booked online so people were saying they booked it through a travel agent. Post #5093 in this thread for example.

There are some countries where I’d be comfortable doing a one hour turn around, and if necessary, explaining my reason to a customs and immigration official.

There are also some countries where I would never even contemplate it.

Would Indonesia be one of those?
I’ve been checking out a run on UL from AUH-CMB-CGK and return and one of the options has a 55 minute turn around in CGK.

It's very difficult to do b2b as UL don't let you use mobile BP in CGK. You have to go lakeside to their desk and thus lies the problem.

Of course travel times need to be taken into account but that gives the OOL route ~$8.50/SC and CNS ~$6.80/SC which are not great numbers from what I have seen. Still must be better under DSC than any non-DSC opportunities out there.

Thanks, I’ll probably have to go with CNS/OOL. Shame about no Flounging but 6hrs on a 737 and 6hrs back isn’t so fun.

I’d been focusing on J but dom flex could be an option.

Read the BA Tier Point thread for all the stories of those who weren't able to do it. All I'm saying is go in with all the facts. You need to pull some strings in order to be able to do it successfully.
Yeah, I’ll have my wife in tow and she is a bit of a worry wort at the best of times when flying is involved so I might give that a miss. It’s ok as another option could be to nest it with a return flight from Australia to Europe with EK.

Rather than b2b why not spend a night or two in CGK!

And just do what I do.. if something risky I just don't tell Mrs Flashback until after it's done and we were successful ;)

We have stayed in Jakarta a couple of times and TBH it’s not my favourite place.
We have an invite to a wedding in the UK in early May and was planning to fly via DXB with EK and thought with a couple days spare I could do the UL run from AUH. It does appear the better option might be to nest the EK flight with a UL flight and gives us another reason to return to Europe in October.

So to get my 50 SC's to retain Gold I booked NTL-BNE-HTI return all in Y (they are Q400s so no other class) on Red eDeals for 40 SC's (80 Double)

Used my Amex annual travel credit so only $50 additional and booked two nights on HTI with Qantas Hotels having 9pts per $1.

There are several countries.

But I’d be taking into consideration things like size of the airport, known issues or delays with customs and immi processing, geo-politics factors, and even language - which could lead to delays or misunderstanding.

Would be interested to know how you go if you give this a try. I have been pondering the same run and have seen the same problem that you can't book the a same day return ticket.

Well, you can - you need to book as one ways or a nested return within a return (so doing the trip twice); however the challenge is that if you try and get your BP the traditional way (which you MUST at CGK, UL won't accept paper/mobile BP) then you're v.v.v.v. unlikely to make it. The only option is to try and get ground staff to help when you get off the flight.

I ended up booking an OOL run, as the SC haul from that will be enough.

Glad I could help! The DPS run is still good value. You might consider repositioning to CBR for CBR-SYD/MEL-MEL/SYD-DPS which is 800 SC for ~$2.2k, otherwise the previously suggested 640 SC run is also good.

Sbor90 all booked at 800 SCs - cheers
If I can stretch the friendship my son renews same time and has 215 SCs. Need 45 SCs for silver....can you point me in the right direction on a uni students budget.

Unfortunately it would cost far more than Silver is worth. $400+

yep OK so really he needs to get to 700 to make it worth it...I am guessing that will be 475 @ say $2.75 per SC so $1300 + minimum

A newbie to status runs within the U.S., but hopefully someone can help - I need to pick up about 180 SC's while getting from Dulles to Los Angeles - does anyone have any suggestions?
