Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Sounds like you are based in MEL? Your best bet for a paid fair is probably to do a MEL-SYD round trip in a Flexi Saver fare. Alternatively, I nabbed a 16,000 point one way J fare from MEL-SYD the other day which scored me 40 SCs. You could then consider a cheap JQ fare back to MEL.

Did not think of a JASA one way and fully paid fare the other... But that does seem like the way to go.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi All,

Need 35 more SC's before I hit Plat for first time. :)

Can I please have some suggestions on a return paid flight that will net me at least 35SC's, needs to be on the cheaper side and preferably only want 2 flights ie not multiple connecting flights, I note that MEL-BNE is 30SC's still 5 SC's short.

Thanks!!

JASA ex Melbourne then a JQ international flight with a plus pack heading back, hopefully the JASA posts in time for F lounge access on the JQ flight which will be a cheaper option anyway!

Would a plus pack really be needed? It would only add 10SC ontop of the 40SC from the JASA that would already cover his 35SC needed and give him 1000 points (not really worth the extra cash if not needed).

He's already a WP considering he's 35SC short of P1 so FLounge access is already available!

Its a cheap 10SC, and they are always needed, almost guaranteed if you dont take it the year end anniversary will see you 10SC short of a loyalty bonus LOL

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Unfortunately JASA is out of the question, paid flights only, did the MEL-SYD-ASP JASA and that has drained my points so want to build them up again.

So far I'm thinking of doing MEL-SYD-MEL on a Flexi saver, seems to be the cheapest and quickest!

I think you are talking at cross purposes here.

Epiqure is a pretty quick points builder at 3000 points for $180 spend if your partial to grape juice slightly refined!

MEL-BNE-MEL one way on red-e and the other way on flexi turns out to be cheaper by $44, definitely not the quickest to do though. (Did a dummy booking for 16FEB $506 for MEL-BNE-MEL and $550 for MEL-SYD-MEL)

With QF or JQ, JQ does have some role in our life as it can be a source of cheap SCs, as well as F lounge access.

Was looking at QF, having it all under one PNR is handy incase of any delays, also the flexi saver fares earning full Y SC are on QF only, usually JQ turns out more expensive if you pay for the starter max bundle.

Just did a test booking on JQ and for starter max bundles MEL-SYD-MEL out of Tullermarine it's $598. $428 if flying out and back to Avalon. Or $498 if flying out of AVV and back into MEL on JQ1.
$403 MEL-BNE-AVV plus bundle out of MEL and max bundle out of BNE but that will require a long day starting with a 3:40pm flight to BNE and not getting back to AVV till 9:45pm.

Yes, CaviAck is confusing cmon0005 (post #538) with blibster (post #529).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Due to a redundancy and hence quick change from steady flying (earning me Gold renewal each year) to very little business flying at all, I currently estimate I will be short of Gold renewal this year by around 500 SCs (!!!!)

I have to head to MEL over the weekend of 29th June and so am contemplating status run (yes, am aware it might have to be a ridiculous one) in order to make up the balance.

Interested in the experts from this forum's views on best options.......

Cheers!

What has been your status credit balance over the last few years at the year end? It's more than likely you will get a comp if your average SCs over the past three to five years including this year average over the SG threshold.

If you are that far short I am not sure it is worth it. Qantas club membership might be a cheaper option. Unless of course there is some particular benefit you are after that is specific to Oneworld that you don't get from Qantas club membership.

I guess I just wondered how close I could get (maybe earning circa 300SCs or so for some additional spend, given I have to make at least a return W-E coast trip). Hadn't thought of the Qantas club option though. Do I recall discounted membership rates for AFF?

I think the first year after I made Gold it was maybe a hundred or so SCs over, and the last year it was maybe 60 or something.

If you were going to do a status run ex-PER then I'd look to start in KTA (so a positioning flight PER/KTA red e-deal) then I'd look at a JASA KTA/PER/ADL/MEL or KTA/PER/SYD/MEL and then the return a MEL/ADL/PER - depending on your points balance and wallet spend capability of course.

Your recollection is correct on the AFF discounted QC membership.
