Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I've just received the double status credits email from Qantas, and was hoping someone might have some good suggestions on how to best use it ex PER? I've tried the few suggestions for JASA's that I've seen, but they are all hugely expensive at the moment it seems (~150k points + $1k for PER-SYD-CNS-BNE-PER).

Assuming that, with the double SC offer, you only need a run of around 250 SC to hit WP then you could look at PER-SYD-OOL or PER-MEL/SYD-CBR or PER-MEL-HBA. All are 120 SC one-way so double the return and they are each 480 SC. They can all be had for < 55k points or 36k plus, < $200.

A good option could be PER-MEL-HBA-SYD-PER yielding 520 SC for 103,628 points or 72k plus $336 . If you're happy to red-eye it out then you can do the trip without stopping the night.

The run I posted would earn 920 SC for a cost of 120000 + $600, but importantly triggers two loyalty bonuses for the OP bringing the actual cost down to 85000+ 600, unless you easily get points you should always scale the points to the minimum, as you cannot buy points for that value in most cases. It's also available on the dates indicated, no red eye and one night in Brisbane required.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Doing my first JASA status run soon, on the ASP route, given that I only have about 30-40 mins on the ground in ASP, anything to see or do close by or at the airport itself (other than QC) to kill time?
Is the QC any good in ASP?

Thanks!

The QC is very basic. there is nothing to see at the airport.

I concur, nothing near or at the airport. The QC is comfortable but nothing flash - there are self-serve soft drinks in the refrigerator, and the alcoholic side of it is unlocked at noon. Staff emerge now and then to replenish the sandwiches and dips. Below shows the whole food and drinks area.

It'll do for 40 mins :) I've always got the J lounge in Syd on the way back to look forward to.
The things we do to attain WP!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Am I right in thinking that there are no good status runs that start in Sydney? The very first post gives a couple of options but was wondering if anyone else had found different/better/other routes?

Nothing at all, you will likely not get a seat at ASP either as there are 2 or 3 flights leaving at the same time!

You also miss out on alcohol as it opens after the flight boards..

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

The best "runs" from SYD usually starts with a paid flight that gets you to another city where you can start the JASA.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Am considering a trip canb-melb-adel-syd-Canb, would result in 180 status credits for just over $1k, have been looking around and this seems good value for status credits - do not want to use points - thoughts?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

See if you can go via SYD both ways for more points and SCs. Or have a look at CBR-SYD-HBA return.

Going by the ballpark for "good value" SC runs, I'd aim for anything UNDER $5/SC, with anything under $4/SC great. Yours looks like hovering around the $6 mark so maybe have a look at a few different options

Thanks all - quick question, which I know is probably covered elsewhere, but are double status credit offers pretty much standard? Or are they targeted to just a few and only when it comes to retention or are they also offered to gain a new level? Also, are these usually a few months before end of member year and how long usually is the offer window? Thanks!

Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Friends

With US-based SC run using AA, do you need to book through QF to get the code shared flights before SCs could be credited ?

Or that's not required and you can book through AA.com and enter your QFF number and SCs would be available.

My impression from reading the posts is that the latter applies but just wish to clarify.

Many thanks

As long as the fare on AA is an earning fare then you'll earn points and SC. You can just book them directly with AA and still earn points+SC.

In fact you want to book via AA and you are better off booking AA code.

This is because the "Instant Upgrade" fare on two-cabin AA code flights puts you in "First" with F status credits.

(same seat but with QF code only earns J).

Thanks for your info

Last year I did some AA flights in Y (LAX-ORD, ORD-BOS) but QF declined my claim afterwards

Bugger if I knew then what fare class I had booked / paid for on AA site.

I just selected & paid without a thought to SCs.

Next time, I need to carry this table in my iPhone to be sure of not missing out.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,
Well my status run flights around the country (almost a circuit!) are complete.
Booked JASA BNE-KTA and return, routed as:
BNE-ADL-PER-KTA
KTA-PER-MEL-BNE plus a cheap return red-E-deal for positioning from my home base SYD

Sat 2 Feb
07:00 SYD-BNE
08:25 BNE-ADL in the charming 737 VH-VXU "Wollongong"
12:30 ADL-PER same aircraft. Seating reallocation at gate (I was shifted so a couple could sit together)
14:40 PER-KTA same aircraft. Very light load maybe 25% full and only one other in J
17:20 KTA-PER same aircraft. "Back so soon?" .. "Yep, achieved what I came for. What's for dinner?" .. Smile
23:35 PER-MEL ugh long wait. Q club at Perth very peaceful and enjoyed a great shower and snack. Tired on flight, novelty wearing off, hardly any sleep
Sun 3 Feb
07:05 MEL-BNE Second wind! MEL airport is a mess during rebuilding. Q club has obviously seen a LOT of traffic, everything just a little shabby. Clean but shabby.
10:25 BNE-SYD Packed. Overshot the aerobridge spot by "2 inches" so a 20 min wait for a nudge back, grr.

So overall, a complete breeze from start to finish, good price (about $400 and approx 50,500 (net) pts) and 420 SCs in 32 hours. I scored a status bonus (8000 FF points) midway. I was worried about all the connections but everything ran to plan perfectly, especially since most segments were just getting on and off the same aircraft.

I found your trip inspirational, I'm trying to book the same flights (from BNE) anytime before July, tho 116,264pts are required?? (minimum of 72,000pts + $440)

You need to factor in how many miles you will earn on thecrun to get the net cost of miles.
