Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Sydney does not really have any good JASAs, did does however have the LAN run.

So I assume if SYD based you need to get to one of these starting ports to get your JASA underway?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Re BNE KTA, seems to be doable only on Fridays, current costings equate to the same value as the TSV DRW run 286 pts per SC before copay (and you would be nuts not to copay).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

MH domestic...not sure we get SCs for these flights? seems good.

SDK - TWU rtn about $125 for 80SCs $1.56/SC [40 min flight 181 miles flying ATR-7]
BKI - LBU rtn about $153 for 80 SCs $1.91/SC [ 30 min flight 71 miles flying ATR-7. ]

Positioning flights in economy are more expensive but not bad if you happen to be in those cities.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm midway through my status run, BNE-ADL-PER-KTA(Karratha)-PER-MEL-BNE
Had no problems with connections on the first 4 segments: they were all the same aircraft!
Good to see that the first segment from this morning has posted to my FF account with correct status credits.

Did the same crew follow you as well?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Was about a half cabin-crew swapout at ADL. All new cabin crew at PER for PER-KTA & the return KTA-PER

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Pretty quiet on a Saturday night in the QF lounge in PER.

I've done this very same S Run previously. - JTam - same crew PER-KTA return only

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,
Well my status run flights around the country (almost a circuit!) are complete.
Booked JASA BNE-KTA and return, routed as:
BNE-ADL-PER-KTA
KTA-PER-MEL-BNE plus a cheap return red-E-deal for positioning from my home base SYD

Sat 2 Feb
07:00 SYD-BNE
08:25 BNE-ADL in the charming 737 VH-VXU "Wollongong"
12:30 ADL-PER same aircraft. Seating reallocation at gate (I was shifted so a couple could sit together)
14:40 PER-KTA same aircraft. Very light load maybe 25% full and only one other in J
17:20 KTA-PER same aircraft. "Back so soon?" .. "Yep, achieved what I came for. What's for dinner?" .. Smile
23:35 PER-MEL ugh long wait. Q club at Perth very peaceful and enjoyed a great shower and snack. Tired on flight, novelty wearing off, hardly any sleep
Sun 3 Feb
07:05 MEL-BNE Second wind! MEL airport is a mess during rebuilding. Q club has obviously seen a LOT of traffic, everything just a little shabby. Clean but shabby.
10:25 BNE-SYD Packed. Overshot the aerobridge spot by "2 inches" so a 20 min wait for a nudge back, grr.

So overall, a complete breeze from start to finish, good price (about $400 and approx 50,500 (net) pts) and 420 SCs in 32 hours. I scored a status bonus (8000 FF points) midway. I was worried about all the connections but everything ran to plan perfectly, especially since most segments were just getting on and off the same aircraft.
The short trips (2 - 3.5 hours each) were pretty easy to handle. Just a bit tedious having to hear the "cricketer" safety video so much (grr)
Great to just gaze out the window and see so many different landscapes slip by far below you. Didn't realize Adelaide was so tiny!

Qantas have posted all but one flight to my FF account: the ADL-PER trip. This was the one for which I was handed a new boarding pass at the gate after my seat was changed. Can't "claim missing points" on this one yet - too early apparently.

Hoping for a double-SC offer next year so I wont get tempted to do it again. Shouldnt be so short of SC this year, already have a few overseas trips booked, half in Y+

Hope this has been useful and/or interesting to read.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

A long day(s) for you aussierob. As the return leg was over two days, how did you book it?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

It was booked as two trips:
SYD-BNE (return)
BNE-KTA (return) booked as a simple J-ASA return trip and selected the flights with the most connections to maximise the SC points (and pick the points levels I could afford)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi I'm a noob to this forum so I'm looking for some advice on whether I should bother trying to keep my silver status, as I have booked SYD-MADRID with two connections each way later in the year but only after my status gets reset to Bronze. I haven't flown much lately so need another 155 to retain silver by the end of July. The only thing is that I'm flying with BA so I don't know if things are going to change with the Qantas/BA break up at the end of March. Is it worth having Silver for the flights I've booked or just to let my status fall to Bronze and most likely get boosted back up to Silver anyway the next year. Thoughts?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Quick question: On the first page of this thread is says that the NAN run is no longer available. Could someone please explain to a noob like me why status credits aren't earned on this when Qantas and partner airlines fly there?

3. The infamous NAN run

EDIT - this is no longer available.

You still earn SCs etc, whats changed is the routing permitted, you used to be able to do BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN VV for $1400 or so return, hauling in significant SCs, now anything non direct is punished with a fare thats almost dearer than the two flights booked separately.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi Guys,

Long time lurker, but generally not a prolific poster. Despite this, I remain in awe of some of the general knowledge that I've managed to pick up regarding travel on here over the years. It's certainly made the last few trips for work much more comfortable.

So, before we begin....a general thankyou to the regulars for being my collective air travel oracle - you all know who you are!

Now, I'm sitting on 900 SC's at the moment, with my anniversary on the 30th of April. With the high probability I'll be changing jobs in the next month or so to somewhere where travel on commercial airlines won't be happening, I'd really like to bump up to platinum for the first time in my life just to say I've done it and be able to enjoy the perks when I fly for leisure...all before going back to grind of chartered flights (boo).

I've just received the double status credits email from Qantas, and was hoping someone might have some good suggestions on how to best use it ex PER? I've tried the few suggestions for JASA's that I've seen, but they are all hugely expensive at the moment it seems (~150k points + $1k for PER-SYD-CNS-BNE-PER). Any help from the gurus (or anybody else) would be hugely appreciated!

CHeers,

RockDoc.

If you didnt have double SC would recommend this, however if you can position to KTA and back on points, and just do the KTA_BNE return would earn 720 SC!

Doesn't earn quite as many as markis10's post, but doesn't require positioning flights, uses less points and $$s, and still earns 640 SCs with double SCs (for any CNS-PER, you're better off going via SYD or MEL, instead of BNE).
