Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

As Kangol says, this is a straight purchase from Jetstar. Just choose your flights (plenty available for Sats and (maybe, I did not check) Suns with Jetstar and choose the added extra of $19(?) each way to get the SCs.

Thank you - Gizzard & Kangol

I had not thought of this option, only the QF SYD - ADL one which offers 120 SCs (in J) for a lot more QFF points

As I need only 30 SCs, your option suits me OK.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,

I would like to have your ideas on status runs to retain QFF Platinum based on the following:

- Status to be reassessed 28 Feb 2013
- Need another 240 SC
- Have current double SC offer valid from Dec 2012 through 28 Feb 2013
- Based in Sydney
- Need to do SYD-AKL-SYD mid February so can use suitable flights to get part of the way to SC requirement
- Current points balance around 500k however will consider cash options as well as am thinking about a RTW trip in future

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, what does your double SC offer cover, all QF flights international and domestic?

The recent Qantas J sale to AKL would have done a good job of meeting your needs however I suspect a JASA will be in your future, such as a quick trip to TSV.

A JASA SYD-AKL is 80 SC one-way. Do that in both directions with your double offer and you have 320 SC. You can do that for a little as around 105k points or 72k + $330. Or you could earn 220 SC by going one way YASA (or buy a discount economy ticket) and the other JASA.
If that's too many points then just book a J class LAN return for around $1450. Or combine 1-way LAN with a 1-way JASA.

LAN round trip won't work, as no double SC!

Note it's $764 odd return using the Australian site, normally it's the NZ one that is better for many flights (LAN or QF if heading elsewhere)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Oooops! You're right, of course.

At $764 return its still a good option if a trip is needed to AKL for other reasons, earning 160 SC at the cost of the OMG departure ex AKL.

markis10,

Thanks for the suggestions.

QFF email says this:

Thank you for registering to earn Double Status credits.^
Remember, you need to book and travel on eligible*Qantas flights
before 28 Feb 2013 to take advantage of the offer and help you maintain your Platinum status.

* An eligible flight for the purposes of this promotion means any flight with a QF flight number on the ticket where Status credits are normally earned. Status credits may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes including Classic Award flights and Qantas codeshare flights (i.e. with a QF flight number on the ticket) operated by Jetstar other than in Economy booking classes Y, B, H or K (earn in L class is eligible only when travelling on a oneworld® fare product). Qantas Segments booked in X, U, Z or P classes are eligible to earn Points and Status credits only when booked as part of a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award. See Airline Earning Table for details.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,
I'm Rob ... long-time lurker, first-time poster.
After many years of modest travelling, I've stepped it up this year and managed to crack Silver membership (lots of SYD to BNE and MEL along with a USA holiday trip)

Hungry for more, I wanted to continue the push to get Gold before my membership anniversary (28/Feb) needing 370 SC points

Thanks to the runs posted here, I'm booked on
(Red E-deal)SYD/BNE
(Business) BNE/ADL/PER/KTA
(Business) KTA/PER/MEL/BNE
(Red E-deal) BNE/SYD
run for 2/Feb to 3/Feb

More points than strictly necessary but I couldnt find any other way to get "over the line" without paying megabucks, and this itinerary all fits together nicely.
The suck will be the economy seat for the positioning flight from my base SYD to BNE, but hey at least I bought this with a "10 FF points per dollar" gift voucher that I bought myself for Xmas!

Might be a bit awkward getting off and on the same aircraft at KTA for the turn-around but I'd rather not stay the night, even the coughpy hotels are expensive there ($200ish a night)

Anyone else done a turn-around at KTA recently?

Anyway I'll post flight experiences if anyone would find it interesting. Cheers folks!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi All,

Another long time lurker and only occassional poster.

Currently Silver QFF, and sitting at 425 SC's, with a renewal date of 31 March 2013. I'm looking to crack Gold for the first time and I received my first Double SC offer just the other day, so it seemed like the right time to try for my first ever status run. I only have 225SC to get. I have enough points to do a JASA, and I'm really trying to keep my money spend to as little as possible (under $150 if it's doable). I'm based in BNE (very awkward place to do status runs out of it seems)

So far the options I have looked at are (date used for all of these is Saturday February 16th 2013):

Option 1:
Positioning from BNE-CBR: Red-edeal ~$150 for the ticket, 10SC
CBR-SYD-ADL: 37k points for 100SC
ADL-BNE Red Edeal ~$175 ticket, 15SC
TOTAL: 37k points, ~$300+, 125SC (250SC with Double SC)

Option 2:
Position to SYD: Red edeal ~100, 10SC
SYD-BNE-TSV: 37k points, 100SC
TSV-BNE: Red edeal ~$150, 15SC
TOTAL: 37k points, ~$250, 125SC (250SC with DSC)

Option 3:
BNE-MEL-HBA: 37k points, 100SC
HBA-MEL-BNE: red edeal ~$240, 25SC
TOTAL: 37k points, ~$240, 125SC (250SC with DSC)

All these options would get me over the line, and don't require a overnight anywhere (which would stuff up my aim to spend as little $ as possible). Option 3 looks the best for me at the moment, but I'm not sure if it is the optimum route, and it would take most of the day to do. Is this the best route for me to take to reach my 700SC goal or is there possibly something better out there? You guys are wizards when you come to find some of these great routes, so I was hoping I might get some help.

Cheers,
Chris

Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

.... :( Got a raw reminder today, friends !!!!
The point is - for SC-run rookies like me - to remember is to switch back to ASA mode after scanning in the Classic Award mode.

Wisdom comes from experience, someone once intoned.

Thank you for the timely reminder as I try to organise travel for hubby to reach Platinum.

Big thanks to everyone for your ideas. I have booked the return JASA SYD-AKL-SYD for total of 320 SC as below:

- SYD - AKL JASA for 55,545 FF points for 80 SC x 2 = 160
- AKL - SYD JASA for 49,830 FF points for 80 SC x2 = 160

Decided to go with the 72k + $330 option as the points have turned out to be quite useful after all and I will need to read up on the RTW threads for the future. Thanks again for your help.

aussierob and Chris82, welcome to AFF and I'm looking forward to hearing the outcome of your SC runs.

Never done an immediate turn around at KTA, but at least you know it's the same operating aircraft.

Chris82, I'd do any of those options but that's me. Whether you add another airport to your visited list, or a particular option is the cheapest; whatever flies your plane. You might also want to visit new or bigger Business Lounges.

Chris, a warm welcome to AFF.

Maybe I am missing something here, but you would need to get 700SC (not 650SC) to obtain QF Gold (which means that you maybe 275SC short). If this is the case, substituting a JASA award to SYD (which yields 40SC) instead of a revenue Y flight in option 2 maybe worth it. You can even grab a cheap JQ fare from you positioning flight from TSV which would minimise costs a bit more.

Have fun planning and travelling.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

My mistake, I'm actually sitting on 475SC. So yeah, 225SC is still the target.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Not exactly a status run, but trying to eek every status point out for a try at Platinum so i need your help.
The Qantas status calculator is broken right now, but could someone tell me if there will be any difference in the number of credits a Gold member will get for these two options:

View attachment 12448View attachment 12449

The Melbourne flight is $500 cheaper than the Sydney one. Thankyou!

You'll get a bit more with the second option involving SYD, since ADL/SYD is Zone 2 but ADL/MEL is Zone 1.

If you can get both ways ADL/SYD then that'll be even better.

That said, we're only talking of the SCs. I haven't plugged in the numbers but an extra $500 to get another 20 SC probably is not worth it.

Thanks for that - yes, always the balance between SC and cost. Now, if a double SC offer came along he'd be WP with this trip alone. Nothing yet and we need to book yesterday to get these prices I think.

Pushka, I'd go for option 1, as MEL is a much easier (and shorter time frame) for domestic to Intl connections on the outbound flights. Walking between Terminals at MEL is soooo much better than the Bus/Train transfer at SYD. More Lounge time :D

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I've updated my original post with the best domestic JASA sc runs that I can find using points or points plus cash. I've added the Gold Coast in too as there are a couple of options from there now.
The main changes have been to alter the points and change some of itineraries where the transit airport has altered or there's an alternative transit point. Also, some of the routes can now be achieved on a day trip that couldn't have been before.

Please point out any better options if you know of them so that we can keep this relatively current.
