Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Not exactly a status run, but trying to eek every status point out for a try at Platinum so i need your help.
The Qantas status calculator is broken right now, but could someone tell me if there will be any difference in the number of credits a Gold member will get for these two options:

The Melbourne flight is $500 cheaper than the Sydney one. Thankyou!

You'll get a bit more with the second option involving SYD, since ADL/SYD is Zone 2 but ADL/MEL is Zone 1.

If you can get both ways ADL/SYD then that'll be even better.

That said, we're only talking of the SCs. I haven't plugged in the numbers but an extra $500 to get another 20 SC probably is not worth it.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Am just starting to look into status runs in Oz after having been fortunate enough to live in the US for a couple of years.

Does one ever see suitable availability/pricing on weekends (+Friday night, maybe), so the average working chump can do them ?

It depends where you are flying from to some extent but from SYD for example you could do a day trip on a Saturday SYD-BNE-MKY or SYD-BNE-TSV and these are often available unless there is a double SC offer on.

Thanks for that - yes, always the balance between SC and cost. Now, if a double SC offer came along he'd be WP with this trip alone. Nothing yet and we need to book yesterday to get these prices I think.

Ta, will keep an eye out.

Based in BNE, but a positioning flight to Sydney isn't difficult from there.

Based on the post I made which is a little out of date now but gives an idea, the most cost effective SC run from BNE is to KTA. Just did a quick check and there are certainly flights available for weekends in Feb but it needs an overnight in KTA.

Thanks for the wisdom from the thread, try this with JASA:

OOL-xSYD-xMEL-HBA-xSYD-CBA-xSYD-HBA-xMEL-xSYD-OOL-xSYD-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-xMEL-AKL-xMEL-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-ADL-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-xSYD-OOL
120+100+100+120+140+200+200+120+120+140=1360

If you are bored with TSV - try substituting the OOL-SYD-BNE-TSV with CNS and drive to TSV for a bit of fun. :D.

I actually have enough points to do this run, but still couldn't justify the value of spending that much points AND time to obtain WP. I only use QFF for domestics and I haven't been having trouble getting any JASA being a NB. Just cost too many points using QFF to fly overseas where I think being a Platinum would be useful.

Question of curiosity, how many days is that done over and what's the point cost?

Haven't looked into stopovers yet. However, all of those should be around 180/SC if you use minimal points + cash and not including points you get back from the flights.

Not a bad run, but with minimum points I was seeing about $300 in cash, which is more than heading to DRW, which earns more. One-way.

If DRW takes your fancy - you can to TSV-BNE-DRW instead of TSV-BNE ADL for extra 20 points each way. That will add to 1400 SC :D.

Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Friends

My recent run (SYD BNE TSV BNE CBR SYD) fell 30 SCs short of my target (2 sectors were in Y out of necessity)

Any low-cost (points) run ex-SYD for 30 SCs suggestion ?

Give and take some, but I only need 30 SCs this time

Appreciate your thoughts

T.

From where? How soon? What budget?

Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Not points but cash....Jetstar bundle SYD-ADL return for $196

Sorry for some dim questions:

1) Still use QF JASA engine to get that bundle ?

2) If not, just go to Jetstar site ?

thanks in advance

PS: your link does not work in my AFF mobile edition, not sure why

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yes.

Just select "Plus bundle" which gets you discount Y SCs (15 each way SYD-ADL).
"Max bundle" costs more but gets you full Y SCs (30 each way SYD-ADL).

As Kangol says, this is a straight purchase from Jetstar. Just choose your flights (plenty available for Sats and (maybe, I did not check) Suns with Jetstar and choose the added extra of $19(?) each way to get the SCs.
