DC3

... Also, according to serfty's thread, I am supposed to choose Business or higher but you recommended First as the option...

? care to explain any practical difference there

MOD: maybe it should be moved to the AA newbie thread ?

I'm no expert and serfty may have better information on Business and higher. I select the First option and it shows business fares, where first is not available anyway, from what I've seen (as probably does the Business and higher option). The reason is probably too subtle for me to pick up.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I should add that when I look at Business or higher on ita, the flight options default to Business on 3-class transcons, whereas with selecting First, the options default to First. This may be how Gold Member gets his 762 (3 class) in Flagship first class sleepers (post 74, above).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

In the past, some Caribbean business options would not show unless Business class or higher is selected.

The 762 First options do show up on Bus+ selection in some cases.

In any case, try both and see what you get.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thank you, everyone. This is my first posting, after AFF kept telling me to post and stop 'lurking'.

I needed 160 SC to reach WP by 31/3, and have just booked a JASA:

ADL-SYD-CBR-ADL for $141 + 48,000 points. Hopefully, this should give me my 160 SCs.

Best thing is that I leave at 12.15pm and home by 7pm with 1:45 in CBR. I could have gone CBR-SYD-ADL on the way back for 40 more SC, but that meant arriving back at 21.15 -hard with children at home.

So thanks again for all your help.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

17 hours travel time HNL to SJU completed (4 flights) hand luggage only
15 hours SJU-LIH with 2 checked bags now due to buying our duty free allowance in Bacardi and only having small bags we couldn't pack all bottles into one. Now our flights were tight with boarding at Miami commencing prior to our scheduled arrival time but our plane was early and the MIA plane waited on the tarmac for about 10 minutes the captain stating "due to fast turn around" of the aircraft - my partner decided to (loudly) state probably waiting for our luggage... could have been, all I know is in SJU we were tagged priority (I'm guessing due to our new status on arrival into SJU) and both bags arrived in LIH, not only did they arrive, they were amongst the first - my partner said he only had to wait for a total of 5 other bags to get ours, his did come through before mine - must be the benefit of gold over silver.
I did read that hand luggage was the wait to go but we bought the alcohol at the distillery and a chemist not duty free so our only option was checking it.

It all worked fine this time, just thought I would share.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Well I finally did my first status run. Overall it was a pretty easy trip (except for making the amateur mistake of booking a window seat on one leg - which actually had no window), and I'm glad I made the decision to a JASA on the return leg because I needed the food and comfort. Thankfully only had 1 of the 4 legs with the stupid cricket safety video too - I think I actually heard the CSM apologising to some QFFers in J that it was on it's final legs and they didn't have the alternative video for that plane yet. No major delays anywhere, and easy transfers, particularly as I was on the same plane for 3 out of the 4 legs. Was tired by the end of it, but looking back it was actually kind of fun and I got a decent amount of reading/video watching done. Now just waiting on my DSC's to post and I will finally be Gold for the first time!

DSC's posted yesterday (only 2 days after flights)...and now QFF Gold for the first time! Thanks to everyone for your help.

How's CNS-AKL via BNE as a JASA status run. 36000 points plus $220 odd for 140 points. I currently have a double SC promo so will receive 280 SC's.

If CNS is your starting destination, there are some better routes for 36k, with fewer $$s and get you a few more status credits. (I think I posted a few suggestions from CNS a few pages back in this thread - I think it was this thread).

But if you do want to go to AKL, then it's not too bad overall.

I didn't have any particular preference to go to AKL. What other options are there? I've had a quick search but can't seem to find anything.

Go via Sydney for same cost and an extra 20 SC.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Not bad value when DSC'ed ;) but as kevrosmith and markis10 advised, there are slightly better runs out there

I booked a BNE/SYD/AKL JASA for my parents so they bought a one way SYD/BNE then used the first sector or the JASA to fly home.

The SYD/AKL sector is next month which they're using to position for their NZ10 flight AKL/HNL 1100/2145-1. Due to departing mid-morning they need to overnight in AKL.

Just booked a JASA this a few days ago SYD/HNL next month on QF3 but due to work & leave constraints, not enough time to book ex another port with a stopover in SYD & have a mini-break before flying xx_/SYD before SYD/HNL.

The best JASA options from other cities other than SYD that were the same points ie 72,000 plus approx AUD450.00 were ex DRW,ASP,HBA & MEL.

Cities such as BNE & ADL were 60,000 points plus about AUD750.00 which is way too much so we bought a sale fare in whY for AUD130.00 BNE/SYD so both bookings can be linked when we checkin so bag tags (if any) & both boarding passes will be issued in BNE.

Those who are doing the MEL/xSYD/ASP JASA run could always utilise the ASP/SYD leg of the HNL ticket to almost get home.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I'm chasing 300SC before 30th June.
I'm based in Brisbane and have 80,000ffp
Looking for the best value SC run, domestic or international.

Was concidering the JASA BNE-ADL-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-BNE, for 72,000 points + $440
This will earn me 400SC, which is 100 more than I need.

Does anyone know anything of better value?

That's definitely the best option that departs from a capital city. Even turn it into a bit of a holiday and check out some of the natural beauty in Karratha if you feel like it--I know, then it's not a "true status run" but it's about enjoyment :)

I cant see how to book this as a JASA. I can only seem to get BNE-PER-KTA-PER-BNE.

I'm only new to this, tho it seems the BNE-ADL/MEL-PER-KTA and reverse JASAs seems to be quite a popular run. May need to be booked a few months in advance, especially to get times to line up to avoid paying for exorbitant accommodation in Karratha. I booked mine with the option of refunding if I acquire enough points before then, for a shorter and cheaper status run.

Tho there doesn't seem to much out of Brisbane (or by traveling to start elsewhere) that comes close in value.
