Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

More than likely points cost has altered.
My brother and I are flying back from ASP-ADL-MEL in July after going fishing in the NT. It cost about 36,000+ points and $ 190 at the time I booked ( Nov last year ) each JASA
A friend is now coming with us and his cost is now substantially higher. Guess it;'s closer to July and mosty of the seats are sold.
I have had changes in potential point costs sometimes when I am, playing around in as little as half an hour. Obviously the points cost are fluid and some algorithm in the background changes it etc
Other thing I have wondered is if you constantly look at the same sectors does the ASA system remember your IP address and then try and charge a bit more ? Or am I paranoid ?
I tried doing it incognito but you have to enter you FF No. to check out the availability. I tried it all again this morning, even tried using my wife's FF No. and got the same result regardless of how many months I look in to the future. I have dialled it back as far as I can and the minimum no. of points that I can use is 120,000 and $561.25. Does it matter what searching strategies that you use?
Cheers

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi, I tried to replicate your flights exactly for the same class and same dates and it tells me that I would need 120,000 points and $561.25. Why the difference, am I doing something wrong?
Cheers

Not sure what you are doing different but I just looked it up, same flights 72K QFF Points and $430.96, same flights and dates.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Thanks so much for replying. I was going in through the Qantas website, using points on the JASA site, multi-city, listing BNE-MEL as the first sector and MEL-KRT as the second sector and the reversing it out for the 3rd and 4th sectors.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Just do BNE-KRT, then select the options where you are routed via MEL and PER.

That's a common mistake- don't use multi-city engine. Just search BNE-KTA and then hunt for the routing you are wanting. Often different routings are limited to certain days of the week depending on schedules on the day etc.

The best value JASAs are based on U fare class. Search the threads for Serfty's script which helps disclose the base fare class. When U fare class is exhausted, the points to dollar ratio increases.

Thanks Kevrosmith and Myt105 you have made me a happy man. I had tried multiple different types of searching but not that combination.
cheers

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I completed the Bne - KTA run last Fri / early Saturday morning.
Arrive at airport to have a 'go to services counter' message - started to get worried. There had been some delays and had visions of being given a delayed direct flight! Got to the service counter and all they wanted to do was confirm all flights - recieved all boarding passes for entire trip.
Bne to Melb was OK departed at 8, nice flight good breakfast.
Melb to Perth - flat bed - very impressed, but I didn't want to sleep. Great lunch & a glass of Muscat (or 2). Did some work, very comfortable flight.
Perth to Karatha - offered more food, thanks but i'm full. Fantastic scenery a real pleasure for my first flight to the deep West.
Karatha - purposely chose the second flight out as I didn't want the same aircrew. Eventually found the Qantas Closet - yep they squeeze half a dozen chairs and a fridge in there. Hostess emptied the bins with a crash that had people turning heads - very funny after the second crash - annoying after the fifth. Watched the NAB Cup final, called to the flight half way through the 3rd Qtr - didn't matter Carlton was loosing and wasn't going to get better.
Karatha to Perth - just pleased to be on teh homeward leg - dinner, well OK nothing better to do.
Perth - a hot shower and a clean shirt & undies, feel much better.
Perth - Bne - didn't do the Melb leg as I didn't need the xtra points (same price tho' just less SC). No flat bed, just teh old reclining chair - offered another dinner - you have to be joking already put on a kilo from earlier flights. Depart at 11pm - 4 hour flight arrived at 6am. Managed a couple of hours sleep.
Got home felt ill & sleep deprived but platinum and life time gold. Very very long trip and vowed not to do it again - but it depends on how close you get.
Well that was last week and feels like a long time ago. So my first status run completed - just hope teh economy picks up so I don't have to do a second. Good luck all.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

By the way folks to find the Qantas Club (Clubby) its between the ticketing desks on the RHS of the terminal (looking out). If you see a baggage terminal you've seen all the highlights of the airport. ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I had a similar experience. Always go to the service desk due to multiple bp's being issued. All ok after that. CSM's were awesome and I managed to be gifted a bottle of shirz on the PER-KTA-KTA leg. Emailed QFF nominating the CSM's for QF awards. Yes great views all the way IMO. Spoke to a KTA staff member who worked her butt off keeping the KTA lounge/pig pen tidy. From what i witnessed, they need a 'QF reserve the right to check bags sign on exit'. Applicable to all QP's really. Included a visit to the little creatures brewery. I had 4 hours sleep in PER before the flight home. Recovered well considering I commenced the run with 1 hours sleep after a big week at work. OT Did you know that ROK ground crew clean the regional QP rather than dedicated QF staff.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I currently require 50SC to make Gold, with my membership year ending on the 30th of April. Currently based in DRW, so limited options for a quick 'there and back'.

I have 30k QFF points and am also in the midst of a DSC promotion. Thinking of getting a ASA to ASP, then take that same aircraft straight back. 15 SC each way, plus another 15SC each way courtesy of the DSC, thereby getting me to Gold.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

It's a pity you don't have a few more points, DRW to TSV JASA is one of the best returning options on offer at 280SC for 24000 points plus cash. I would say your plan makes sense.

Sounds similar to my experience on a similar status run I got back from yesterday. Didn't have a chance to check out the KTA QF club as I inadvertently booked the return directly after my flight. Same crew but they just welcomed me back and didn't bat an eye lid. If I do it again I'll do it with a stop somewhere. The 2.5 hours sleep I got PER-MEL wasn't enough and I was feeling pretty wrecked.

Going to need more status points this year, can't find JASA on that run 24000 points and cash, can find 40,000 each way, what dates did you have Markus?.

It's 40k without cash or 24k plus cash.

gizzard is the guru  - its 40,092 each way then wind the pointer back in Cash&Points for 48k & $301.60
Very little to see in April but starts to free up in May. May be a problem doing it in 1 day from CNS as it is usually QF969 which departs TSV 05.55… so you'd have to o/night in the Capital of NQ - both ways :)
I was thinking of doing it as well but it will have to be in July (renewal 31/7)

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I did this run couple years back, yes had to o'nite in TSV both ways. My status runs out 1st Nov. and I'll be short this year for SG, hoping to get lucky with a double S offer.

We will be in HKG Oct. just for a week could do a quick run from there, looked at the MH site and gave up. As far as I know in that ASIA region TPE is the place to fly out of, but I'm bit limited for time.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Considering HI TSV is on points breaks at present for effectively $35 a night, the DRW run is an attractive option, now for a general double SC campaign, should be one next week.

Yes, here's hoping for that double SC offer! Finger, toes, eye all crossed. You'll be in Shanghai mid-year as well IIRC?
Looks like I'll definitely need a run before 31/7 but I'll be based in NKG from mid-April until mid-July so will do some research when I get there and look for some good cheap runs from Asian ports. I really don't know what my schedule is going to look like yet but maybe even an AA run.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi all,

I'm currently PS (only very recently) and I had a double SC offer to help me there until my membership year, April 30.
I'm only 300 SC away from SG, so I'm wonder if it would be worth a JASA to PER RT and would my double SC still be active?

Doing a bit of travel next membership year, so it would definitely come in handy.

Cheers.
