Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yes it's the same plane. I have done both flights too many times to forget!!

Excellent, thank you!
I received a DSC offer this morning, expiring 30th June (end of my membership year). I registered, then spent the last hour searching for the BNE -> KTA run, and found the above on June 22nd.
I'd been worried I wouldn't make my SG renewal, but now I'm pushing for WP! The above should give me 2 x 200 x 2 SCs, which will leave me about 130 short of WP.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap 65-SC return status run from BNE (130 with DSC)? I could go BNE -> SYD in business for 80 SC, which would be more than enough, but doesn't seem like a great use of points.
Thanks again,
mrpooky.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Besides the TSV-MEL-BNE-AKL run, are there any good international QF legs out there? Looking for a mini holiday with my DSC. I know the NAN run is gone (pitty) but maybe there's something else not too far from home?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Ok - Received DSC offer and I'm going for WP again this year. Big question is - what is there to do overnight in Karratha?

Best place to stay?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

If I purchase a JASA fare direct from Alice Springs to Brisbane; in which there there is no Business class onboard, how many SC will I earn?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

It's directly realted to the booking fare bucket of each segment.

It will be, at best, Economy if not booked into J, D, C or I.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Still looking for low points fare + cash in J out of CNS without going via TSV, have double points offer, need 390 status.

It will give you far more SCs than you need but you could look CNS-xSYD-PER as it's fewer points and cash than even CNS-xBNE-SYD and would net you 640 SCs.
If you want to do a day trip (ouch!) then you can go via BNE for 80 SC fewer.
CNS-xSYD-PER return 108,276 points or 72k+$375 320 SC doubled to 640 (red-eye back)
CNS-xBNE-PER return 107,904 points or 72k+$372 280 SC doubled to 560

It's the best value out there for PER or CNS that I know of.

You could get 60 SC 1-way to MEL, ADL or TSV and then get an economy back or even Jetstar and pay the extra for the 15 SC bundle (only $104 for MEL)

I only need 390 all up so a 200 x 2 is OK, can do CNS/BNE/SYD for 72K points plus cash, was hoping for less points use.

Not sure why TSV is such a low point count to stay DRW in J, did that few years back on same offer, problem is fare to TSV is about 240 Ret. to commence but due to flight times requires 2 nights in TSV, driving not on either its 4 hrs from Cairns each way and flight departs about 6am and return gets in at 10pm.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just booked:

SYD-BNE-TSV (Fri)
TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV (Sat)
TSV-BNE-SYD (Sun)

96,000 points for 480 SCs at 200 points/SC!

If only I had the DSC offer!!!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm looking at booking a JASA SC run for a certain date, although I'm still 2000 points short.
I'm worried that the JASA wont be available much longer. If I purchase the equivalent full price J fare, then refund it once I have sufficient points, should this make the seat available again to be booked as a JASA?

I'm not sure but couldn't you just top-up your points? It's a bit pricey but at least you should be able to lock in your flights:

There used to be TSV-BNE-MEL-HKG but since the MEL-HKG flight changed times that doesn't seem to show up. PER-SYD-CGK used to be good as well, but the cost in points seems to have gone up.

You get better value going CNS-xBNE-AKL, slightly less cash and still 72k points but 80 more SCs. The booking engine doesn't allow you to book a return flight that leaves 1 hour after landing so an overnight might be required. It may be the same plane, I haven't checked, so a turnaround could be possible if you book the flights separately but others would need to comment on that.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

OK - all booked. Off to Karratha Anzac weekend. Then Alice Springs the following Saturday and Bingo! WP here I come!!

Possibly even better value is CNS-xSYD-PER return at slightly even less cash and 72k points and another extra 80SCs (total = 640SCs). And you don't need a passport :-)

(assuming with DSC)

BNE-CNS vis SYD for 24000 points and $303 seems pretty good.

120 status credits in return (240 for dsc) and 5000 odd points.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I am actually looking for a short holiday in May (self funded birthday present), so I'm open for random destinations for a couple of days

DRW is nice in May as it's dry season then & if you don't want an expensive hotel just crash at the Melaleuca on Mitchell in the heart of the cbd which is a decent backpackers.

Well a bummer that your PVG trip got the chop but great to see the DSC gods found you - mine popped into the in-box today as well so I'll be chasing SG for the first time - looking for deals from Asian ports as I won't be back in Oz before the DSC runs out.

Have you done your 4 (~ squiggle) qualifying flights on QF/JQ for the year?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap 65-SC return status run from BNE (130 with DSC)? I could go BNE -> SYD in business for 80 SC, which would be more than enough, but doesn't seem like a great use of points.

If doing the TSV/DRW JASA & you're based in BNE sometimes there's only $30.00 difference BNE/TSV between a red-e-deal & a flexi saver the latter earning SC as regular economy as opposed to discount whY.

Also TL (AirNorth) fly TSV/DRW vv non-stop & although I
haven't priced it just wondering if it could be a (re)positioning option for those who are time poor.
