Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Your DSC offer will specify the period flights must be taken and if you need to register beforehand. If you're doing a bit of flying in the next membership year it may be worth it for you.

Thanks Hvr.

Here's hoping it qualifies for Gold as well :P

Whilst PS is nice with seat selection and the like, it is quite a step up to SG. That's when lounge access kicks in. If you are going to be flying a bit next year and would use the lounges, then go for it. You would only need 600SC next year to retain gold as well.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

mel -> per -> mel.
If all you are looking to do is to gain the extra 300 SCs and you currently have double offer then you could consider the JASA MEL-SYD-OOL return. That's 40 for each leg, doubled = 320 SCs. It uses fewer points and cash than the PER option.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Actually from Melbourne the MEL-SYD-ASP run will yield 240SCs in normal times and 480SCs with a DSC offer. Did it twice this membership year.

Can be done in a day and the FAs understand those of us who do it.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Just did my DRW - ASP - DRW run.

Unfortunately my morning plane out went tech, had to grab the afternoon flight out of DRW arriving at 1645 and then get the 1715 flight back. Got queried by the CSM and asked to explain to her why I'd just come off the flight down and (literally) got straight off, only to turn left at arrivals and fly straight back. Advised I needed the status credits to make the next tier (provided the DSC comes through prior to 30 April!) and she seemed to understand. Offered me complimentary grog too!

That said, I presume the SC's for the flights (incl. DSC) will post as normal since QF ticketing had to alter them a fair bit to get me sorted.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

You'll be in Shanghai mid-year as well IIRC?

That got canned, only have CNS/SYD/HKG return Oct at this point need to find best deal in OZ or ASIA, so far for status run points best is TSV/DRW/TSV again, always available so will wait and see.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Question: For people in Sydney, is it better to fly somewhere else to start a status run or do one out of Sydney? There are a few attractive ones not starting in Sydney which can be done in a day for a there-and-back return run, but then I've got the problem of being in another city and having to find a hotel, or having to overnight in another city before AND after due to an early start. Any thoughts from the Sydneysiders?

Fly to Canberra?... Go on an actual holiday and enjoy the destination - BME was a nice 32 degree water temp...

I am actually looking for a short holiday in May (self funded birthday present), so I'm open for random destinations for a couple of days

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Have double status points offer, need run out of Cairns, need 390 points not TSV/DRW.

Broome in J return min points 72000 about $350 cash 280 sc's ... we liked BME nice and warm not too hot, water just as warm as the air temp.
leaving from CBR gets you a few more sc's..

Perth via SYD/MEL (preferably) or BNE might be what you're after. The former will earn 320 before DSC and the latter 280 for 72k plus ~$380.

Well a bummer that your PVG trip got the chop but great to see the DSC gods found you - mine popped into the in-box today as well so I'll be chasing SG for the first time - looking for deals from Asian ports as I won't be back in Oz before the DSC runs out.

Yeah very happy the offer arrived. CNS/TSV/DRW run have to stay 2nights plus get from accom. to airport plus extra fares CNS/TSV, might have to go 72K points plus some cash, that opens up more options. I need about 400 so with double offer 200.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Re BNE KTA, seems to be doable only on Fridays, current costings equate to the same value as the TSV DRW run 286 pts per SC before copay (and you would be nuts not to copay).

Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether QF916 (PER -> KTA) is the same plane as QF915 (KTA -> PER)?
I'm planning a status run with QF916 arriving in KTA at 16:40 and QF915 leaving KTA at 17:20. Obviously if it's not the same plane there's a risk I'll miss the return.
Thanks!
