Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi
I am a relatively new member (qf gold) and would like to book an instant upgrade tix with Aa. I have read the very helpful posts but don't trust myself to do it correctly! (plus have poor net connection here). Does anyone out there know of an agent who could book this for me that I could pay for the service?
Also any suggestions on gaining about 600 status in one trip? Can either go to Dublin(just to see my mate) via anywhere departing from Canberra (j class of course to get enough credits) or from canberra to Iowa city( conference there why else would anyone go there?) pref via S F on way over or back if not too complicated! Latter trip I thought of AA and it's Instant Upgrades to gain credits. Can't afford both trips just Ireland or USA
Thanks in advance for help. You guys are brilliant.:)

You could always ask Travel Guru.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

That's definitely the best option that departs from a capital city. Even turn it into a bit of a holiday and check out some of the natural beauty in Karratha if you feel like it--I know, then it's not a "true status run" but it's about enjoyment :)

What is there to do in Karratha ??

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I've just managed to book the BNE-KTA run without having to overnight in KTA, but I am spending a night on a plane. The routing is BNE-ADL-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-ADL-MEL-ADL. The extra MEL-ADL-MEL is needed so I can get to Platinum with the DSC offer I have (which I'm hoping I registered for before booking)

What was the total points and $ cost, if you're happy to share?

120K points and about $900. I looks like it can be done cheaper if booked further out than I booked, which is only a week, and dropping the MEL-ADL-MEL sectors. But I'm going to run out of time if I book it later.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Definitely an expensive JASA. Looking at some far off dates, it can be done for 72k points and around $440 for the non-sleepover in KTA trip. But as you said, it's last minute and you added on another flight at the end. The key for this trip too, is NOT to go via SYD, as it's 20SC less each way.

I think if I get crazy enough next year before my renewal date and I get a DSC promotion again, I might consider this JASA for a run to platinum.

I book a JASA, but decide to cancel it, are all payments & points refunded ?

Depends on the fare conditions of the JASA booked.

For example, if it's a domestic JASA, in many cases the fare type is your regular Business fare, which are fully refundable. (Make sure you call Qantas to process this; if you do it only you'll hose yourself).

On the other hand, international JASAs may book into Business Saver rather than "full" Business. Business Saver fares have clauses about change penalties and refundability (or lack thereof), and you need to check these.

Ta.

Need some SCs before June but may or may not achieve enough with other travel. I was going to book in a JASA or two now and then cancel them if I got the points through other travel. They'd only be domestic (BNE-xx_-PER-KTA & return, unless someone has a better one ?).

Cheers.

Either the cheaper fare has been snapped up or are you not dialing down the points to increase the cash component?? Hard to tell without looking at your screenshot

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

More than likely points cost has altered.
My brother and I are flying back from ASP-ADL-MEL in July after going fishing in the NT. It cost about 36,000+ points and $ 190 at the time I booked ( Nov last year ) each JASA
A friend is now coming with us and his cost is now substantially higher. Guess it;'s closer to July and mosty of the seats are sold.
I have had changes in potential point costs sometimes when I am, playing around in as little as half an hour. Obviously the points cost are fluid and some algorithm in the background changes it etc
Other thing I have wondered is if you constantly look at the same sectors does the ASA system remember your IP address and then try and charge a bit more ? Or am I paranoid ?

Surely not!! I would be in TOTAL awe if that was the case.

I can't imagine the reward would be worth the effort (and the risk given the same IP address can rotate between different households frequently).

With that said, vendors like Amazon have been known to present different pricing depending on the type of computer and browser you hit their site with...

With THAT said I'm sure there's enough obessives on this forum who regularly compare points costs of JASAs, etc, to seat availability in Expertflyer and would let us known if those sorts of shennanigans appeared to be going on.
