Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

We did it today - by phone. Will see how long it will take for points to be refunded. Will post result - after points are back into account.

Just to update - hubby's points are now back in his account, all refunded :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Looking to do a similar run myself ex BNE (as I have to get there first from MOV)

Was checking out the Karratha runs this morning but seems a lot of return legs via MEL are around the 250K points mark !!

I'm keen to do before end of June as I'm looking forward to Gold for the first time.

Suggestions anyone?

I would do the drive to Mackay and then see how much a positioning flight would cost from Mackay to Townsville or Mackay to Brisbane. My run out of the Gold Coast and back requires an overnight - but I have never been to Tasmania so looking forward to the approx 12hrs I will be spending there. I did a lot of looking before I booked and the Karratha runs one way were good but couldn't get both legs at the reduced rates. Also this DSC offer has been out for close to a week - most of the good runs appear to have been taken and points have increased dramatically (my run on my days now only has low points down and the return is 97,321 - only low points if you do Hobart to Sydney and back to Gold coast which cuts down the earn).

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I cancelled by phone don't worry.
The points just reappeared and the booking is now gone from MMB.
I was concerned as the flight was at 6am and even though I cancelled yesterday it was still showing up.

And I've now rebooked to next week on a day when my wife is travelling anyway .. we meet at SYD airport at the same time on the way home ;)

Next question - I cannot get a turn around in TSV anymore .. I have 5 hours, so will go to the city. Has anyone used the Con-x-ion bus at $20 return? I can just book it to a hotel, or to the ferry terminal. Maybe I could do a day trip to Magnetic Island? :D

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Deka have a feed at the fantastic Benny's at Southbank in Palmer St while there, its sensational, I go there every time while in TSV.

I've never used the Con-x-ion bus but a cab 1 way to the City is about $20, so the bus seems reasonable.
A quick Maggie trip would be much more interesting than TSV city… CBD is very quiet.
The Strand is great if you like a walk.
Also consider The Brewery on Flinders Street for lunch or C-Bar on The Strand.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

You could walk down the road for 5 minutes and get the local Sun bus, routes 205 or 215. I think the return fare would be $5.80 and that's for a daily ticket from what I can see.

Thank you. Bargain! Pity I can't catch public transport to the airport in Sydney in the morning (6.05am dep).

limewood, you go there often? This will be my third visit thanks to AFF. The first time was a cash fare in Y as I had no points, but on sale, and from memory $400 to get 50SCs I needed to get to Gold the first time. That time I was there the whole day, and spent most of it in a cafe called C-Bar by the water. If I go to Benny's, I can catch the shuttle bus to Rydges.
My last trip was a JASA turn around so I didn't visit anywhere.

Thanks - as I said I spent a day in C-Bar two years ago, so a combination of Benny's and The Brewery may be in order. I've now had two conference calls booked in my diary between 1pm and 3pm so I won't have time to go to Maggie.

Good plan: both very good places to eat. The Brewery is just a 5 minute walk over the bridge from Rydges/Benny's

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi AFFers

Could someone confirm that JQ to Avalon (+ Plus bundle) qualifies for SC as "Discount Economy" ?

It should but I do not want to waste money & time for something that is not there.

I am chasing a little 10 (yes, ten) SC :)

Also, JQ is asking for a 2 hr MCT in Avalon while there is a turn around flight 60 min later.

Is it safe to book two separate trips (ex SYD) with 60 min in between?

Or is there something peculiar at Avalon that makes 60 min not enough for a SC run turn-around ?

I once walked from a BNE-CBR plane onto the next gate for the CBR-SYD trip (after a quick dash to the service desk to swap my ticket from the following flight to an earlier one).

Slightly off topic here: has anyone been offered (or granted) a requal by QF when they are 5-10 SCs short ?

I doubt it, but someone may be able to correct me here.

I am a noob to the forum.

Based in bne. Need 580 SC for WP. Currently have DSC offer to be used by 30 June. Looking for a decent JASA flight to get me there. Any suggestions appreciated.

A KTA run via MEL/SYD will get you 200 SCs so that's 400. For 72k points plus $430 or ~100k points

BNE-(MEL or ADL)-PER-KTA = 200SC in J EACH WAY. So the return trip is 400 SC for the above mentioned 72K plus $430-450 (depends on ADL or MEL). 800SC for DSC.

(BNE-SYD-PER-KTA =one way 180 SC or 360 with DSC).

got it booked for 22June, with same day turnaround. Looked earlier today, still surprisingly some available for that day.

Yes you're right, cheers for correcting me.
Makes more sense now.

I'm doing the same run (BNE-MEL-PER-KTA) Anzac weekend then the MEL-SYD-ASP run the following weekend. From 90SC to WP in a week!

Thanks to whoever started this thread. It's been very handy!

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated!

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Howdy all,

Does anyone know a run out of BNE or OOL to net around 200 ? Have DSC offer (actually need 410), and there's still some BNE-KTA runs available in my window (at around 115,000 and $450 or so), but I'm looking for something a bit "cheaper" in terms of points and/or $$$ since I don't need all the 560 a BNE-KTA returns.

Getting a cheap flight to Canberra then going to HBA would fit the bill, or TSV- ADL.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Or being creative.... OOL-ADL and then ADL-TSV and a cheap flight back home to BNE? Or the other way around. OOL-SYD-ADL = 100SC (200 if doubled); ADL-BNE-TSV = 120 SC (240 if doubled); a (currently on sale) Red e-deal is $129 TSV-BNE = 15SC (30 if doubled). Total of 480SC. More than you need but you could always pick up some wine in ADL on the way :)
