Challenge... find me a J out of CNS (not via TSV) return around 48K points and cash for 200 status points (with my double 2x200 =400), i see plenty at 72K points.

its CNS-OOL via SYD or via SYD and BNE. But you need to chuck in a decent chunk of cash.

50k will get you 200 going to AKL via SYD, J one way Y the other, points earn is important when it comes to JASA value, and if your short on points Epicure can offer a cheap top up you can drink to ;).

Look for ports within the 1200 mile range from CNS (that's the Classic Award redemption range for 24,000 pt J redemption zone).

Nearly everything else ex-CNS is 36K range (2400 miles)...

I need JASA not classic.

Yes, that's right.

JASA minimum points are based on Orig-Dest GCmap distance, not total segment distance.

i.e. CBR-HBA is less than 600 miles, so for a JASA min points is the 16,000, even if you route CBR-xSYD-HBA.

For a classic award the total segment distance CBR-SYD-HBA is used which is more than 600 miles so it comes in at 24,000 points.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

So I find a classic at right points and hope there is a JASA available?.

If there is a Classic award available, there there'll be a JASA available as well at the reduced number of points (a couple thousand more than the classic), then if you want to bring it down to the classic points cost, use the slider to drag down the points and use cash the make up the difference.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I have booked numerous JASA's before (yeah always use the slider), had no idea to look up classic 1st.

I knew about it but found it easier to do a 'weekly' view on JASA point price and go from there.

Pretty much.
I check the Classic points needed first - that tells me what to look for points-wise for an ASA.
The ASAs never seem to appear at Classic prices so keep in mind you'll need to use the points/pay slider to get the ASA down to the Classic price.

Sorry for the repetition - too slow on the keyboard!

How do you do that? Are you referring to the Flexible with Dates button?

You don't have to if you know the base point for a JASA that you are looking for. Looking for classic awards first can indicate the existence of a JASA based on a U fare bucket (which is the Class Award Business class fare bucket), and are usually the most efficient use of points. E.g. in the TSV-xBNE-DRW, you'd be looking for a JASA base points value of ~40,092, not the 80K+ or 151K+ values that can sometimes appear. The 40K base points will use a U fare bucket, whereas the others are based on others (after the U bucket has been exhausted), and then the 40K will slide down to 24K.

The reason I mentioned Classic Awards with the pictures showing the distance, was because you were interested in potential JASAs in the 24K range... the 24K vs. 36K is based on the point-to-point distance of your origin and destination, so to get JASAs from CNS in the 24K range, this will only apply to ports less than 1200 miles from CNS... BNE, OOL, DRW, ASP, AYQ, ISA etc. The zones for these miles is shown in the Classic Award redemption table Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Qantas & Partner Classic Awards - Points Tables

Yes, it gives you the minimum point cost for each day of the week and you can move about looking for the cheapest days.

Do you use this looking for Domestic or International ASAs? For Domestic, you can't filter to show Business only, so you would see the minimum points for Economy each day, wouldn't you? Therefore, not much use for Domestic JASAs...?

I've found it best for internationals. For domestics my dates were less fluid and further than a week apart.

OK - been doing that, thanks.

I've booked a few dom. and Int. JASA's past few years.

In regard to my request, I've looked at numerous JASA possibilities yet to find one to max 50K points and cash that will give me what I need (200 to give 400). If I use the TSV/BNE/DRW run I need to get to TSV plus 2 nights accom. (by the way I prefer a weekend).

Did you miss my post stating 50k will give you exactly what you need, albeit one half in Y. Or just book the one way as a JASA for 36k and $234 and buy Y back for $300 and no points.
