Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Couple of days spare during upcoming trip to LOTFAP - 8/9 May. Will be in Chicago.
Best I have found is: ORD -STL-DFW-MIA-SJU overnight in SJU and the same in reverse, yields 540 SC for $1200.
i know better can be had but I am fairly tardy looking and booking this. Any other ideas from ORD??

Not sure if price is limiting, or SC maximising is the aim, but matrix says ORD-BOS-JFK-MIA-SJU is AU$564 for 330, plus SJU-MIA-LGA-STL-ORD is AU$672 for another 330, or SJU-MIA-RDU-ORD for AU$402 for 270.

Sure others can do better, but that's $1236 for 660SC, or $966 for 600SC.

Not sure if the route via BOS is doable in reverse.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Just booked my first status run! I feel a little bit nuts for doing this to be honest. I've got Syd-xBne-Tsv return leaving sydney in the morning with 45 mins in townsville before hopping on the homebound flights. Any pointers for doing 4 flights in one day with the same crew looking at me a bit odd for getting off and on again on the same plane?

Curiost, interested to know what that costing you and how many SC for the round trip?

If booked as a JASA: $264.74 + 48k points
SC earn is 40 each on the SYD-BNE legs & 60 BNE-TSV legs for 100 each way = 200 total.
Doing that run next week with Double SC so 400.

Like the outbound option via BOS and inbound via RDU - 540 SC by my calculations for $966 so better than the original route I had planned (MIA - SJU - MIA books into I class so 60 SC per sector). Timings on the inbound also work well for me.

Booked!

You're welcome, and apologies for miscalculation. I'm doing a bos-jfk-dca-mia-sju later in the year (AU$320 for 270SC), so knew via BOS is interesting pricing and routing.

Guys it seems all flights to SJU are in J class ?
So all points/SCs would be as per J ?

...which is why you make sure the USA mainland to SJU is the shortest leg of a multi-sector itinerary eg DON'T book a JFK-SJU direct which gets J SC, but eg JFK-MIA-SJU gets FIRST SCs for the JFK- MIA, then J SC for MIA-SJU.

Yes agree.
I'm already booking a LAX-(DFW)-JFK-MIA-(DFW)-LAX in F but thought I might try to route through SJU for the extra SCs but wasn't really worth it.

For some reason I cannot get the price down to as low as you guys are able to.

Anybody got any suggestions to boost the SCs of a LAX-JFK-MIA trip. This is not a pure SC run but I actually want to visit those cities.
So far I'm getting $1450 for 540SCs. Don't really want to spend more than that.

Cheers

because you need to have SJU added in there. speaking of which, that's where I am now :) twas a LONG day!
Incidentally if anyone starts their run in HNL, defiantly go via DFW on AA8, its pretty much always a 767 bird with the better F seats. Tomorrow I'm off to JFK, and the MIA-JFK is in F on a 3 class bird, should be interesting.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Can somebody please confirm which aircrafts have the better F cabin on AA ?
My understanding is 762 or 763.
And that the 757 and 738 are the ones to avoid.
Is this correct ?

Doesn't seem to be very many 762 or 763s flying out of DFW.
Hmmm so gotta toss up whether I want the SCs or the comfort. If its a daytime flight it shouldn't matter that much I guess. I'll probably just chase the SCs.

The 762s are the 3-class birds so F is better in those. IME, they are likely to be used on longer routes such as JFK-SFO.

It was $265 + 48,000 points, but the trip will trigger the loyalty bonus + points earn so I will only be down ~34,000 points. 200 SC but with the double bonus it will be 400

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I've booked ADL-PER-KGI return for 48,000 points and $320 in J. Looking forward to the 240SC + the recent DSC bonus. Can't wait to qualify for Gold for the first time.

Just to be clear - all 2 class flights from mainland USA to the Caribbean have just Business and Economy.

However, routings within mainland USA (and HNL) indeed have first, so you do fly in First class around the USA and it's only those last/first segments of the journey to/from SJU that are in business.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

EX MOV it might be better to look at TSV DRW, availability can be hard where there are few daily options.

Yeah Markis I looked at TVL, but its a pain getting there. There are only red e deals on Wednesdays, for positioning. Driving to MKY is terrible on the Peak Downs due to roadworks. At least MOV has flights direct to BNE for a 100 or thereabouts.

torourke,
You may want to make sure you get airport names right .. TVL is South Lake Tahoe Airport. It does pay to check when posting on this forum (and in particular this thread).
