Ok I forgot that we both have a DSC active until June 30 (I just got an email reminder) is there anyway to book the decent AA F fares under a QF flight number online myself?
I know I can book classic awards for LAX-BOS but thats not going to earn any SC's
I'm guessing a travel agent might be able to do it but I will need to find flights that operate with a QF flight number and get them to force it in - will this work?
I'm no expert on this but my understanding is the only QF flights are into the USA apart from LAX-JFK. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. All the rest would be partner airlines, mainly AA so no DSC. In any case, I assume that you'd only pay for Y to get over there otherwise the cost will blow out in other classes. One-way in Y with DSC SYD-LAX is only 90 SC. You'd be much better off putting your funds towards internal YUPP/KUPP fares, imho, and getting 4x or 6x SC and not just 2x.

QF do codeshare on many AA flights but not for First class on two class operations, only business. Moreover, Qantas do not sell "Y/KUPP"/"Instant Upgrade" type fares and of the the fares in Business they do sell, they are a lot more expensive

So Double SC earn opportunities at reasonable cost basically are not there.

Thanks for the help - we already have out SYD-LAX flights booked for a family trip and have been asked to stay a week longer by my partners work.
So I was trying to force QF and AA website to book us a LAX-JFK QF code flight (and then we would book just AA to BOS but I don't think it can be done.
I was trying to double capitalise on the DSC and YUPP (but airlines are smarter than me so I don't think there is any way for a reasonable price anyway - a TA can probably force it in but I don't want to pay $100,000 for the luxury) so that I was getting 10x sc's

Thanks Serfty

Considering putting in a request for someone to find a lucrative K/YUPP or a YQ Dump route for us because I am getting no where.

CBR-SYD-ADL-PER RTN (overnight in PER) is tempting @ 360 SC for 108,000 (300 points/SC) or 72,000 and $242. With DSC that's WP for me...

How do you book this? As CBR-xSYD-ADL and then ADL-PER?

Not sure how you get it at 108k return

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just completed JASA BNE-SYD-PER-KTA-PER-BNE for 320 SC's on the weekend.

It started out fun. Great food and service.

I met eastflyer and FBS who were doing very similar runs. But by the time we arrived in PER for the return leg I was totally over it! Just grateful I had FBS for company.

Then I had to get on the Dash 8 to return to MOV. That was the worst and I just wanted off.

Now I'm just waiting for the DSC's to be credited and its first time GOLD for me :D

And would I do it again? hell yeah !! But I'd avoid the red-eye like the plague.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Need another 220SC to get WP. So under the DSC offer, I only need 110SC of actually flying.

Open to any suggestions.

Would prefer to include SYD and based in PER.

Have thought about buying a 40SC one way flexi saver fare from PER-SYD, then return on a one way JASA from SYD-PER (80SC), which equates to 120SC in total. That will cost about $499 for a PER-SYD flexi saver fare, and 36,000 pts and $226 for the SYD-PER JASA fare.

Another option is SYD-MEL-PER on JASA for 36,000 pts and $255 (40+80SC), and I guess I could get a red e-deal PER-SYD for $269.

Can anyone else think of any better options?

Thanks

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

PER-MEL-SYD return YASA?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

PER-MEL-SYD return YASA?
A discount YASA will book in as Discount Y, netting only 60SC's for this itinerary. A JASA on the other hand, SYD-PER return would net 160, so 320 with double.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

G'day,

Any pro tips for 180SC from SYD?

Got SYD-ASP-MEL-SYD for 94K or SYD-CNS-BNE-SYD for 111K (both all-inclusive, gross)...

But I know you can do SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD for 200SC, 81K net so there must be a better option.

Appreciate any advice :)

A flexi YASA would get 120SCs x 2.

If you could stand it and want to keep the cost down you could go JQ for this leg with bundle and get it as low a $169+$25 for $194 instead of $269 with QF.

Plus bundles only credit as discount economy. If you want Full Y SC's, you need the max Bundle which is a little more than $25:

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Can do a JASA ADL-BNE-TSV returm on same day for 72,000 points + about $350. SC = 280.
Depart ADL 0615 arrive TSV 1050 and depart again 1135 arriving back in ADL 1855.
Mrs Buzzard thinks I'm quite mad for doing it but then I pointed out her $500 day shopping trips to MEL. $85 each way leaving $330 for shopping and lunch. At least I get called Mr Buzzard all day, drink some nice wines and eat some reasonable (?) food, enjoy a good book and hopefully get looked after by the Q staff. It's my "me" day. I do wonder though what happens if you miss the return flight because the incoming is late? I can only assume that if you can't be re routed same day Qantas will have to cough up a hotel room for the night. Anybody been in this situation before? Mrs Buzzard & I were on an ADL-SYD late one night that was turned around about 5 mins out due to curfew. Nice hotel in ADL provided inc a top breakfast etc.

I don't think I could stand it again - it took just under five months for points and SCs to post from Jetstar, after a retro claim and an email. So long that they ended up posting in my new 'year' as well as the calendar year. All I can say is I wouldn't count on them to help reach status by a certain date.

True, but Chucksta was looking at a red e-deal but, what I forgot is that he was counting on DSC and he wouldn't get that with JQ of course. My mistake.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,

I just thought if anyone is looking for a "GREAT" JASA status run, check this out......!!!
MEL/SYD to BROOME return (via Perth) is coming up at a minumum of 72,000 points and approx $540.00.
This will earn 280 status points, and can be done in the same day (crazy, but good value).

Happy flying !!

How are you booking this? I just tried to book something like this and its costing me close to 500,000 points with Points plus Pay, then $500 on top! Appreciate the help as this would be my first Status Run booking ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Might be dates chosen?.

Also have a look at J to NZ.
Yes, definitely dates. I had a quick look choosing a date in September and there was a day return available for 72k + $534. MEL-ZNE is another option for only $10 more and then there's always the old favourite MEL-KTA for $5 less but these can be harder to find.

I suggest that jeremyk takes another look at Markis10's post and thread:
