Interesting. I wonder what QF "management" has to say about such folk.

I think they like us, we enjoy the journey, generally are good pax and use up points which reduces their liability.

I know the interaction I've had with FAs when doing an out and back JASA has been positive.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Well I have recovered from my little JASA:
MEL-SYD-DRW (full Y) DRW-SYD-PER-KTA-PER-MEL

2 red-eyes in about 40 hours total. The PER-KTA FAs were quite understanding when I explained what I was doing. They said they get the occasional person doing a status run. It was the PER-MEL crew that had a little trouble believing what I was doing. "You are flying more than us" was one of the comments.

Anyway - why DRW-x-KTA? Well, the JASA points level is based on the distance between origin and destination, so this run cost 24K (and returns ~12K) so a net cost of 12K. I picked up two loyalty bonii as well. Add to that KTA-MEL JASA and MEL-DRW paid fare and total return was 840 SC (with DSC). And I got to see a couple of lounges I hadn't seen before.

Was this the trip you hinted at, at the Perth drinks. impressive run.

Success despite Amadeus failure is a great result and none of us in Perth jinxed it. That was a really good run.

If I had the time (and a few extra $) I would have considered returning via DRW. That could make it a WP weekend.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi Guys,

I've done a bit of stalking in this thread but I was hoping for a bit of help. I'm chasing around 380 SC's, but though I'd start with a simple single day Run to get the balance moving along. I'm in Newcaslte, so thinknig a drive to Sydney OR a cheap flight to BNE to get started (Unless there are better options). My question is where do I start for planning? Do I simply start searching on the Qantas website for Multi-Stop trips and see where I can jag a low point JASA? or is there more of a trick?

How far in advance do you typically need to book to get bang gor point/$?

Apologies if this is covered somewhere, I just hadn't seen it. Any assistance (Or anyone keen for a trip!?) would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Rob

I see your double SCs have posted but for others' benefit, the most recent offer didn't include a requirement to register prior to travel.

From NTL your best bet would be to take an early morning positioning flight to BNE. No doubt you've seen the BNE - KTA run which is one of the better options. If the stars align you can pick up QF Red e deals ranging from $65-$89. Otherwise consider a JQ fare plus a bundle. Regarding potential date range for bookings, it all depends on how flexible you are. I tend to pick a random date and keep searching for a high yield option preferably with connecting flights. Alternately I build on to existing flights if a good sale pops up.

Thanks Puppy sparkes - I think the BNE - KTA looks like a good option - I regularly get an error when using the searching tool (With no reason) - Am I starting in the right place?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Is this the process you are following?
I was trying the Multi-City, but am now playing with the simple planner. I'm now trying to force some indirect routes and find dates... I'll keep playing and see what I can come up with....

You'll only need to punch in BNE - KTA in the regular booking tool. The available options will pop up from there and include the connecting options.

And the BNE-KTA (via ADL or MEL) run seems to be (only?) available on Saturdays (maybe Sundays..? Maybe Fridays too??)... It's not all days, I know that much. YMMV.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I went to SG again with the double points offer, then Mrs Lime said "why don't you do another double status run somewhere before the end of June", so went to PER in J last Friday as had stacks points to burn, also had an excellent business meeting while there too.

Mrs Lime also had her own points and advised me on morning of flight she was coming along too! be it in Y. We had a fabulous time in Fremantle and she went past silver as she had the SC offer too (will be SG after HKG trip coming up) and I went to WP.

Points and all SC's only took 3 days to appear so well done Qantas.

Funny thing, looked at our Y booking on 380 to HKG today the exit seats in upper that were never available before now suddenly appear, I guess its the WP?, so grabbed them.

Very happy household hold.

Congratulations on hitting WP Limewood! Not bad having more seats to choose from now for your upcoming flight.

Sure looks like the case. Was thinking to change to PE but now have all that room in exit seats not going to bother.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all. Hope you can help... I have got the DSC (whoo hoo!) I am currently gold and my status year doesn't expire until May next year. However, I have calculated planned flights for the year and will probably be about 240 credits short of maintaining gold. I really, really want to, so think I need to do a status run using the DSC. it expires end Aug. I don't have many points, but am happy to buy more or use mostly cash. I am based Mel, and would like to do up and back ASAP, can anyone suggest a status run which would net me 120 points (240 with DSC...) Any help you give would be gratefully received, by a novice AFF...

Go to ADL via SYD as a JASA (100 SC) and return via SYD in Y (20 SC). This is easily done in a day, and you get to sample the MEL J lounge to start your day!
