Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi Fellow ff'ers and Mods.
I think due to the latest changes to FF points on both Qantas and O/W partners, it might be time to redo this whole thread?
Can we start a new one please Mods?

With a secret access code to prevent spoilers ? :p

What about limiting people who can see the thread to members which have 500+ posts or something similar?
That way you know they are serious and have been around for a while?

Or spreadsheet?

Number of posts is a good indication of how active a member is, but it says nothing about motivations and/or intent. May I suggest limiting access to only members who are "referred" by a trusted party (e.g. PrincessFiona, JessicaTam, Serfty, etc). This will ensure members who want/need access have to physically attend at least one social event and convince a trusted party to vouch for them.

I wouldn't qualify under any of these criteria.

And do you really feel comfortable explicitly excluding Red Roo?

Yes, I think a lot of us here would have no qualms about excluding RR from any good runs. Especially after what QF just did...

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Perhaps one that you need to work for?

Start with the core group who are well recognised here. This group can then decide what needs to go into the thread. The tasks can be divided up, and then posted here. Anybody can attempt, but only those who can provide the best and the worthy answers would be allowed to see the completed work.

Well, it's a rough idea, but what I'm trying to get to is that it would help limit it to those who 1. are knowledgeable in terms of status runs, and 2. may not be so knowledgeable but willing to put in the effort to contribute. Hopefully there won't be too many freeloaders who would come in, spread the news like a wild fire, and spoil it for everybody.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

With time running out on my Double Status Credits deal I am heading off on PER-MEL-SYD-PER run. I decided to get to Lifetime Gold before July 1st and 400 SCs should get me quite a bit closer when I have the other work and personal flights already booked on Any Seat.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Any level of restricted access, in whatever form, is bound to upset people. Unfortunately I think it really is a matter of a public list or no list at all.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

As I come to terms with the earning changes, I decided to take a look at the future cost of earning SCs. Being based in MEL I took that as the starting point and went through many routes trying to find the best earners using ASA (Points+Pay, points only).

There was good news and bad news.

The bad news, for those that like to take an SC run, is that the cost per SC has at least tripled. Whereas you used to be able to obatin an SC for as little as 330 points per SC (MEL-xSYD-ASP), and more recently at around 380 / SC, I wasn't able to find any under 1,000 / SC and one route went as high as 3445 / SC (MEL-xSYD-LDH)!!

The good news is that there are far more places to choose from which have much the same cost. J class was restricted to only certain routes but the earning rate now is just as good in Y class as J and often better. It will mean more trips to earn the SCs, of course, but you can now choose from a range of places.....you might even want to stay in them rather than jump on the next flight back.

I found 5 routes in Y that cost 1,000-1,100 points per SC and another 5 up to 1200 / SC. Compare that with only 2 routes in J under 1200.

I took a quick look at a few routes that didn't depart from MEL and there were a few, but very few, that were under the 1000 points / SC.

Was it frustrating using the new calculator?

For the value of those points (even at 1c/point) you'll be miles ahead just forking out the money and doing a run in LOTFAP, even at the new reduced earn rate.

The new requirements are over 1000 posts, and must have been a member since September 2012 ;)

I've accepted my fate of being statusless from the end of this year onwards. :(

I guess I don't really care if I get access or not. There's really no reason if I won't be anywhere near qualifying for Gold, hell with the gutting CNS has experienced in the cuts and my reduction in flying from next year onwards I won't be anywhere near PS. If I do get access great, if I don't -shrug- the rules have spoken.

When I finish uni and get a job my money will end up going for whoever is the best at the time and it doesn't seem like QF is going to be a winner.

Ummm, I think drewbles was being very tongue in cheek by selecting a joining date one month before you joined.

FWIW, I am not thinking of an alternative 'secret' spreadsheet, as it would be way too hard to administer. Just ask lobo76.

I know, I was just letting him know it wasn't working :P

As for lobo76, was that in reference to the VA master spreadsheet?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

It is so much more that the VA master sheet. lots of little titbits in there.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I feel I am just lucky to be able to travel to the States once / twice annually.

I heard gasoline is cheaper over there
