CaviAck,
What happened to CNS earn?

"hell with the gutting CNS has experienced in the cuts and my reduction in flying from next year onwards"

Flights to SYD and MEL have dropped from 20SCs in discount Y to 15SCs. And the points earned for CNS-SYD has taken a slashing from 1225 base points to 700 (800 once the minimum points guarantee kicks in). For status members this hurts a lot because the status bonus is on the base points and it's been hit hard. As a SG I now earn 1225 points under the new table compared to 2144 under the old table. A 43% drop in points earn and a 25% drop in SC earn. To earn the same amount of SCs I now have to increase flying by 33%!

CNS-MEL sees a reduction from 1437 base points to 700 (800 with the minimum points guarantee), points earn has been slashed to half before the minimum points guarantee kicks in.

CNS-BNE surprisingly hasn't been hit that bad, goes from 865 base points to 700 and SC earn stays the same. (Might have to start looking at routing through BNE from now on, usually sale fares aren't that bad)

Basically any flights that fall into the 1200-2400 miles (zone 2 and 3 under the old system) has been knocked to the ground and kicked. (Except transcon to and from PER)

True but CNS-xBNE-MEL is one of the best earning routes that will be available at "only" 1,083/SC in Y.

At 1,083pt/SC you'd be insane to even consider it. I'd rather hang onto the points for a classic award in a premium cabin and pay cash for the run. At 1c/pt, you'd still get more value paying for the run. And a lot of us value the points at more than 1c/pt, which just makes using points for SC earning seats even more ridiculous.

120% agree

Not worth thinking about, let alone taking it up.

Far better to buy an upgradable fare and use points for that IMO

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Or just give up on status with QF...

I'm not suggesting it's a sensible option. I'm just pointing out that, if anyone continues to choose to use points to earn SCs then they can't get much better than this.

But I wasn't even pointing out the use of points for SCs, I was pointing out how CNS has been stabbed big time in terms of earn, not spend.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Our run home to Perth via Karratha (a long cut ) from Melbourne was thwarted when our plane was subbed out and J flights vanished. We are now going home the short cut way.

Sounds fair - your trip has been simplified.

If that was QF993 MEL-KTA, it wasn't a sub as such, still a B738 BSI.
This flight is normally sold as economy only, but last month it started selling with business too, from April onwards.
Now, in the last week or so, it's reverted to all economy.
No idea why.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

We actually thought the call to Mrscove was a great recovery by Qantas. She now has a higher status than me.
Karratha can wait for another day if it is in Y.

A couple of day trips to the Gold Coast using a sale fare. No points required.

Or use some points to go to ADL, SYD, or HBA in J return. Should be 32,000 points + $.

If you're going to do a couple of day trips to the Gold Coast, you might also want to consider going to SIN and back, with one connection either on the way there or on the way back. The price isn't much difference with the current sale.

I am ashamed that I didn't think of that. ;(
