Another fan of Live to air here and have been known tonschedule flights around sporting events so i can watch them at 35,000ft.
Yes Justinf, we remember....you're a footy tragic!

I know what you're asking Santa for.......ife with quad screen split and L2A, with a private intercom to the captain just in case you need to instruct him to fly around a bit (like 8 hrs worth) so you can see the end of Bathurst!;)

You were doing so wellmuntil you mentioned car racing. Everyone knows cars are not sport (did i just go there?).

On a completely unrelated and totally off topic.

I've always wondered why Free to air channels, such as Ch7,9,10 and the ABC aren't on Live2Air.

(Don't laugh)

I remember flying home when 'The Block' finals were on Channel 9 and was dying to hear the results.

Because L2Air is foxtel and only selected foxtel channels are available.

The Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane versions of 7, 9 and 10 are all on the satellite that LTA uses so there is no technical reason why it couldn't be done. However i think there are two issues: one is the obvious one that in part LTA is a promotion for the Foxtel/ Austar product - not sure what the arrangement there is but i think it's probably exclusive to foxtel.

The second issues is a little more complicated. The FTA channels often only have programming rights in their local areas. Channel 9 Sydney can't broadcast in regional NSW for example as they have on-sold the broadcast rights to their programming to another affiliate (WIN or NBN in those cases). I don't actually know for sure but i suspect that broadcasting to places the plane is flying would be legally quite complicated. Also it would raise the slightly vexed question in football season of whether to broadcast the Sydney or Melbourne versions of each network :)

So what percentage of the fleet now has Business?
More to the point, when will Business-equipped planes begin flying MCY-SYD?

has anybody taken their own pictures of the meals in J class? im doing a DRW-MEL on a 6PM-11PM flight, im curious if im gonna get a luke mangan dinner in PE/J on the refitted 737-800 :) hehee i love airline food photos.

They are churning out about 2 refitted birds per week, and taking 1 BSI per month (just off the top of my head so don't quote me).
Theres about 40 738 in the fleet so just play with the maths there. (Pacific blue aircraft operate some domestic routes too I believe)

AFAIK, it's PE service even in a refitted bird until business service is announced. I've only done savers/flexis lately sp I'm going off what I've read elsewhere.

The only routes which currently offer Business class service are east coast to Perth. The new J class seats are used as premium economy (no proper J class food/service) on all other routes until the official launch of network wide business class.

Ahh i see, i thought that would be the case that its only business class services on the east - west coast service. Good to know in advance, thanks Noob.

My pleasure mate, just didn't want you to be disappointed - hopefully it won't be much longer until J class is officially rolled out, personally, I can't wait to see it on the E-190.

Take the seats out leave the wiring in?

Flew on VOM today
So the cabin has had a refit - j seats, new carpet etc, the economy cabin has new upholstery on the seats, with slightly different headrests that the other new refits, but it is still fitted with live to air ( but not in business class seats, they are suppied with digiplayers)

Thank god for that. Nice to see they aren't ripping out the IFE on the whole fleet.

yeah it would be abit of a waste to throw away those seats with IFE and considering Qantas' next generation will have IFE, keeping the live2air on Virgin is a good idea.

I see this as more uncertainty, but with possibilities. Why would they have their nicely reupholstered seats damaged with screens in the back if they don't intend on having fixed screens with future IFE? Seems at least, that DJ are planning for some sort of "fixture" with the new IFE, which will at least cover over the upholstery hole in the seatbacks once F2A goes. Surely they don't intend to have their new IFE on some planes and the rest remain with F2A??

I was on a refitted 737 today. No live2air for business, or economy row 3 and 4. Row 3 faces the new divider (so no IFE), Row 4 faces the replaced row 3 seats - also no IFE.

Really really strange. I was in 3C and didn't realise the plane had live2air until an announcement was made that it was turned on for the flight.

This is because the airliner was deployed into service halfway through a refit due to the Qantas issue.
