DJs new 737s, pretty impressive.

Yup leather is the cheaper option, a LCC legacy that VA just can't seem to shake.... One day hopefully!

Apparently Qantas will be having leather in J/Y its latter deliveries.

- Think it was in a qantas media release, also featured on ausbt

Agreed!

Leather in 737 ≡ LCC!

It depends, real leather is good - fake, vinyl "leather" as seen on Virgin Blue and Jet Star is horrible.

The new Virgin product is real leather, and is really comfortable even in Y.

What is really LCC is the 30 inch seat pitch Qantas now has in new Domestic Y!

Nope ;) Agree with Serfty. Sorry, leather <period> is LCC. And uncomfortable. Hope QF have a re think.

May be comfortable for short trips - ever tried to sleep longhaul on leather?

Perspiration collecting betwixt you and the seat can make for uncomfortable travel.

These are domestic aircraft, so where oes LH and sleeping come into it? Anyway I guess QF is completing it's transition into LCC since it plans to install 'claret' leather seats in the first 3 rows, just as it's competitor is removing similarly coloured leather seats from it's first 3 rows. Irony much?

Put it this way - on domestic short haul I'd take a non leather economy seat over any leather business class seat all other facits being equal!

YMMV!

Ok then, that's your choice. The material on the seat makes precious little difference to me. All I ask is that it's clean, whatever it is.

Now back to the new QF cabin. Since they are having 'claret' seats it would look nice to have a matching curtain, something to break up that big wall of sameness. I'm just disappointed they didnt go all out to wow their pax with something actually refined. Griege is the new beige but gee, whiz it's not very inspiring. I've seen lots of monochromatic high-end interiors but they always
use shades of grey, not the exact same block colour on everything. It looks like it's sucking the daylight out of the cabin. What I really wanted was to see a marvelous interior that makes DJs one work for it's keep, boy was I let down.

Nevemind, maybe they'll save their J pax from the nasty leather seats with an upmarket sheepskin cover.....

They both look like standard Virgin and Qantas aircraft, nothing that special or outstanding.

Virgin don't' even have IFE yet and that's EPIC FAIL along with no meal included and paying extra for a bag (if you don't have status)

I like being served a meal and a drink without having to pay, paying for anything extra makes it feel like a LCC
Also having no IFE makes it feel like a LCC

Qantas will unveil a radical new-look cabin on its domestic fleet next month when the airline takes delivery of its first Boeing 737NG (or 'Next Generation') fitted with Boeing's slick Sky Interior.
I assume AUSBT hadn't yet seen the cabin when they wrote the article?!:p

That said, the Virgin interior really dresses up and takes full advantage of the sky interior, whereas Qantas' cabin really make it look like a stock standard 738 with the only improvement being AVOD...

The funny thing is, once you load 160 pax into either next gen VA or QF 73H and sit down with them (I have flown both several times) - the look of the cabin means absolutely donut!

You can't even really see it once you are seated. Sure they both look beautiful in a photo shopped empty shoot.... ;)

So it really then comes down to comfort and function over aesthetics. And from that perspective QF wins easily.

Exactly right!

Leather is easy to clean and doesnt smell when drinks food and spew are spilt on it, Virgin had a 737 700 with cloth seats and some of the staff called it the City of Baby Spew.
Oh god yes, I have been on this plane 4 times, VH-VBU, only 737 with cloth seats and only 737-700 without live2air. The plane is really old and the interior is very "spewy". The plane will be gone shortly anyway.

Of course, the covers of the cloth seats easily details and can be readily laundered/disinfected.

As for "each to their own", I use YMMV as I am lazy ...

Haven't seen a the old Virgin Blue colours in Karratha for a while, either we are getting a new aircraft on all the flights or we are getting repaints.

These a/c based in WA or just luck of the draw?

Luck of the draw, the planes are restored anywhere they are needed.

Confirmed all new Qantas 737-800s will have international premium economy seats covered in leather for domestic business class.
