Does anyone here actually collect amenities kits as a hobby?

Every Little Bit Helps seems like a perfect recipient of all our bits and pieces with lots of drop off places all over the country. Here’s a quote from them....

“There is a very good reason why we only collect sample sized products and that is because we put them into care packages that are approximate 20cm x 30cm. Our recipients take great comfort in receiving something they can call their own. For homeless, and in particular rough sleeper homeless, these items can be carried in their pocket.

We provide 2 kinds of Care Packs – a standard care pack made up of donated hotel toiletries as well as items that are found in airline amenity kits such as sleeping masks, socks and ear buds.

The ‘lady care packs’ we supply to women’s refuges and homeless shelters contain sanitary items, a hair comb, cosmetics, deodorant and perfume in addition to the basic toiletry items. We assume that these are the items that would not be the priority to pack if someone was fleeing a violent situation”.

I sorted out about 50 toothbrushes and toothpastes that mainly came from airlines, and a few hotels. Now looking for a local group to donate them to.

Only 50, you are seriously not working hard enough on the hoard ;) MrsM made me clean out my hoard after my wings were clipped 3 months back most of my hotel sweeping products went to a women's charity that MrsM and MiLM like. I am now down to my last 75 toothbrushes, 4 pairs of EK F slippers and a bag full of other stuff.

@mrsterryn it is a pity you did not post your post #218 yesterday as I would have taken a photo of my cut down hoard. When everything went nuts 3 months back I took out 1 set of PJs be it F or J from the hoard and was determined to use them, the only rule I set set myself is that no 2 pairs could be the same. 3 months later and after only wearing a set of CX F PJs once, MrsM had enough of my PJ "Floordrobe" (also my now home office) so last night I packed them all back up in the bags that are full off amenity kits and PJs.

The hoard will grow again next year as all of our fight for this year have been cancelled or will not happen.

There’s also a toothbrush collection in the laundry of the seemingly opened packets. I am embarrassed about all the wasted resources. So will you be whittling down your toothbrushes to fewer on hand?

that

Agreed it’s a tremendous waste of resources, the amount of plastics created and wasted makes me feel sick every time I see them handed out and the minis of everything are more packaging than product.

I really hope the airlines move to a EY model of just offering people from the trolley what they actually really really need instead of handing out everything and the kitchen sink like Emirates. Faced with that I think people will be more selective and not grab everything...

I have now been gifted a huge number of things in sample bottle type size from my local Buy Nothing group.

All the items, (soap, creams, shaving gear, mensuration products, shampoo etc etc), are put into small packets that the local Every Little Bit Helps charity group sorts into small packets to hand to the homeless, people escaping danger, and so On.

Summary of activities
Every Little Bit Helps collect, pack and redistribute unwanted hotel toiletries, inflight amenity kits, cosmetic and make-up samples to those in need including the homeless, asylum seekers and victims of domestic violence as well as troubled youths through Women’s Refuge, Homeless Shelters, Youth Centres, Asylum Centres and Community Centres as well as via small Government and Community Groups.

My office also collects cans and bottles in recycling bins and I Earn & Return them (in Sydney) for 10c each and then donate the $$ to Every Little Bit Helps.

About $400 per year so not a massive amount but cans/bottles not in landfill and ELBH gets some funding as they are 100% for profit.

I know ELBH has been providing care packs to healthcare staff, especially during the initial Covid response, plus the Jan bushfires ect hit their stocks pretty hard.

That’s great because Every Little Bit Helps is 100% charity and every little bit of $ helps too.

A photo of my local Buy Nothing group gifts to be donated tomorrow to Every Little Bit Helps. Some very nice things in here. And this is not quite all of it. 💜
Thanks to @KLR - for bringing this to my attention. Here is a picture of so much of the things that people were very happy to drop into my letterbox for me to pass on to the charity. Home

I realise not many amenities kits are around at the moment. However I am getting to the dregs of our last storage unit to be emptied.
No idea when this was Cathay Pacific's kit/folder thing View attachment 220444
Ooh, I have these as well, from when we flew CX PE in 2011. They can be hung connected to each other. I use one as my travel jewellery case. Hotel slippers are used (or used to be) in aeroplanes while seated and when going to the bathrooms. Just socks on those wet floors? (shudder) I had so many I now dispose of after each trip.

My favourite is the Brics bag from Qatar, now discontinued. They came in many colours and I actually use them as evening bags.

I looked up ELBH, but they are not in Perth. Nevertheless I will now look for a local charity which does something similar. Thank you all for the suggestion.

Thank you. I hadn’t pressed search after entering Perth. 😬

I love these. I guess it’s a moot point but what do they have now?

My Brics were from 2018. Last year it was a vinyl bag like a man’s wet pack, but smaller. I had been looking forward to extending my Brics collection, but the new one is definitely not worth keeping.

oh well. Son is flying to UK sometime this year having a J award flight using my points. Guess it's not worth it then.

At least your team is looking good this year! 😂

The Eagles or the Fremantle Dockers? My pen name is for the Port of Fremantle (from cruise critic days when we did cruise). But the downgrade of Qatar’s bags is sad.

P.S. Nice that we shared billing in the newsletter this week.

Does anyone know if I can buy Lalique lip balm separately?
It seems to be the Only brand that works on my lips
