Domestic seat selection now up and running

Have three QF flights coming up all on AA points redemption (U class) and have been able to select seats. First 2 flights are on 737-800's and other one is 767.

SO as OW Emerald was offered all but first row while I had only row 3 in the 800's and rows 4 & 5 in 767 to chose from as OW Ruby. <80 hours we've both had the row in front open up on the 800's (but granted there's only 3 rows to chose from anyway).

Seat selection seemed to work as expected from all reports here and these are award flights.

Likewise here, I've been able to get myself from row 4 on a 763 to row 2 and row 2 to row 1 on a 734 as a QP PS once the 80 hour mark hit.

Qantas is telling me they are 738s, so that would match your experience.
Seat selection is kind of irrelevant in my case (first 3 rows on a 738. I was just interested in why it seemed to be blocked.

FYI - I'm now able to select seats on my 738 flights. They're no longer coming up as ineligible.

No problems here with seat selection for a U class (Business Any Seat) redemption.

Booked 2 seats CBR-SYD using Any Seat at T-5 days. Seat allocation showed that rows 1-3 were completely full, and rows 4-5 were empty (as a WP). Checked back today (within the T-80 window but before OLCI) and every D & F seat in rows 1-5 were free, so we moved up to row 1.

Thanks for the heads up on U class 738 seat selection.

Gotta say I'm loving seat select, I have consistently got into rows 4 to 7 now that it is working for me, whereas it was before such low numbers was the exceptional case.

I am persuaded to say that if one is a NB they are going to get weird, cough and/or unfavourable seats.

Ok, my GF is a NB and I'm a SG. On the weekend we flew SYD-MEL and had pre-allocated seats in Row 38 (which is my preferred number in life) at time of our seperate reservation (as I was using a free Amex flight). At online check-in, she as a NB was automatically, assigned a seat in Row 50 and her seat availability maps showed only a choice of 4 other single seats for the entire 767 aircraft.

I then checked using my reservation, my seat allocation remained the same but now around half of the seats become available for selection INCLUDING the seat that I had pre-allocated for the GF.

And then on the return flight earlier this evening, the same thing happened. She was pushed to the last row of the plane whilst I was still in my same seat allocation in row 38. Again I checked using my reservation and about a third of the plane opened up including my adjacent seat, so we checked in using the companion mode to enable being seated together in row 38.

Another one, our future JFK-SYD flight we had allocated seats in the upper deck, but over time she got moved downstairs? and I remained in the same spot. Anyway, I'm sure NB's now have all the odd seats now - or at best, right at the back of the plane.

Flights to TSV via BNE for Friday have opened up at T-80

From 11 A -> 7 A QF 510

From 11 A -> 8 F QF 972

I just checked my BNE - MEL fight this evening. I was "pre allocated" 2C as a SG. I now see I have been moved to 1C without me having to do a thing. (738) Never happened to me before. Maybe their system is showing me as WP even though I still come up as SG. Also y SYD - BNE flight automatically gave me 1B (767)

I hope this continues!

Yesterday, booked BNE/MEL/ADL/BNE for Tuesday. Best seats available once booking confirmed was 7D, 8D and 10D. Got an ODU for the ADL/BNE so changed immediately to 3D.
Checked again about an hour ago and on the MEL/ADL, 6D was now available (needless to say, I moved).

Will be interesting to see if I can get the BNE/MEL any further forward before OLCI starts...but would hope to get a couple of seats.

Are you using your iPhone where you can check-in 24hts and 45 min before the flight :?:

mrsdoc QP/PS got 5C @ T-72, then at T-~55h got 4C.

Note that we are finding when booked on the same flight on seperate itineraries, her QP/PS is getting better seat selection at T-80h than my PS. Selection is the same at T> -80h.

I don't think so. It is clearly advertised on the QF web site.
This is what happens when the communications channels are broken. I read your post that OLCI via iphone was available at 24hrs and 45mins from time of flight. In other words 45 minutes earlier than everyone else.

No, I don't use my iPhone, rather use my laptop.

See here.
I'm not quite sure what you mean - are you saying that an iPhone user has an additional time (45 minutes) ahead of everyone else? I read that page (highlighting in red is mine):

Online Check-in
Online Check-in is available for all Qantas and QantasLink domestic and international flights.* Select your seat and check-in:
  • Domestic - between 24 hours and 1 hour before your flight departure
and
Mobile Check-in
Mobile Check-in is available for eligible Qantas and QantasLink domestic flights~ 24 hours and 45 minutes before your flight departure.

Seems they missed using the word "between", thus the meaning changes:

but the clck through page reads:

qantas.com Mobile
The latest flight information direct to your mobile
Plan your next trip while you're on the go, no matter where you are around the world. qantas.com Mobile provides you with up-to-the-minute flight information direct to your mobile. Domestic Check-in

Mobile Check-in is available for eligible Qantas and QantasLink domestic flights^ between 24 hours and 45 minutes before your flight departure.

Logic says that it really means to start at 24 hrs before and finish 45 min before however, as demonstrated it is just as easy to read this as starting 24 hrs and 45 min before departure.

Quite ambiguous really:!:

The mobile page has the missing word (bolding mine):

qantas.com Mobile

Mobile Check-in is available for eligible Qantas and QantasLink domestic flights^ between 24 hours and 45 minutes before your flight departure. Your boarding pass is sent to you as a 2D barcode via SMS that you can scan at the boarding gate for your flight.

Perhaps some proof reading got skipped.

Just OLCI'ed and no seats were available any further forward on the BNE/MEL or MEL/ADL sectors which isn't surprising, given the number of Plats thay ply those two routes.

Yes, good that is cleared up.

Let us not give those iPhone wielders any more reason to show off their toys/investments/etc. :p

Only time I can think of where I would have been jealous of someone having an iphone. ;)
