Domestic seat selection now up and running

Well I´m for one very happy with the new seat selection service. It was always a big issue for my wife and myself getting a good seat in J and seating together on the domestic sector of a Int. flight. I don´t how many times checking in at BKK or SIN via SYD to MEL/PER we were given seats in J generally right at the back and on different sides of the aircraft!!!! even though we had requested certain seats at the time of booking. We are both WP in our own right and travel F on the Int. sectors and booked on the same ticket only to be told that all other seats had been taken by pax who had checked in via the web 24 hours before departure (for us very hard to do when you are 38,000 ft above the earth). I complained to Qantas many times asking them if this was their policy to treat their premium passengers in this way by seating my wife and myself in different parts of the aircraft? I just got the same old reply "we cannot guarantee any seat preferences and (unfortunately) the computer assigns the seating automatically 24 hours before departure. In this day and age of high tec technology very hard to believe that this cannot be overrided !.
Perhaps for once Qantas has listened to their customers and made this service available. We had no trouble getting good seats (2 J and K) on the domestic sector SYD/MEL in April.

I believe row 1 is blocked for passengers with babies (bassinet) and generally made available on the day of departure to other passengers (according to customer services anyway).

Kind regards, Traveller F

Curious, am I the only PS on AFF who has been able to pre-select (before OLCI window opens) domestic seats??
I was able to as soon as it was launched on my upcoming trip, which does have international sectors. I couldn't select seats on the domestic sectors until the seat selection was launched, though.

Katie,

Don't tell the others here or they will be jealous :!::lol::rolleyes:

You are not the only one.

Was I one of the people who criticised this system when it was first introduced?

Well I was wrong. I works just great. I pre-allocate a seat in row 25-26 on a 767 or row 6 on a 737 and by the time T-80 hours comes around I am in the first row of economy. Much better than the lottery of theoretical seats prior to OLCI....

Well I am jealous as a PS who gets nuttin'.
However I am speeding towards SG so it will be interesting to see if I can then do it.
Funnily enough I was on PER-SYD yesterday and didn't manage to do OLCI due to my computer being on the fritz (and you can't do it from Qantas Mobile for some unknown reason). So I check in and get an exit row on a full flight. Bloke next to me was PS as well. However it's the exit row you don't really want: 767 row 36 - tiny cough TV screen that was almost impossible to watch due to the brightness and of course the joy of having a full view and full nose of the toilets. (where's the puke icon?)

That has been my experience as well - it's looking like this might have actually been a bona fide "enhancement"! ;)

Something new I've noticed. In my Qantas Departure Information email I just received I note that it now shows my allocated seat number and there's a link next to it marked "change". Of course like all links to that email it goes nowhere and I get the generic error page and

This is what I always get when I click the OLCI link in this email as reported in the other thread.

Still it shows something has changed.

Another data point for y'all :)
Two OW Sapphires on the PNR (QF SG, AA Plt), best row on a 734 is one ahead of the exit... usually get a much better seat selection on OLCI

An accidental "enhancement"?

This is the error message I received when trying Gmail yesterday.

No issues with Yahoo or Hotmail.

I just created a Hotmail account and got the same message via Firefox. I dunno. I give up.

Did you ever call Qantas directly as a WP to request seats? Have you ever used www.checkmytrip.com to look up you qantas booking to see what seats you were allocated?

Hi Serfty

Yes tried both those ways WP centre just said basically what I’ve already written, and on "check my trip" all seating was confirmed with the green tick except the domestic sectors. On our E-ticket print out it was just the same, all international sectors seating confirmed (never ever had a issue with those) domestic sector "seat requested XX and XX" but never confirmed and almost never received! We had also personally on occasions visited the Qantas centres only to be told the same old story.

On one occasion last year checking in at BKK we had requested at the time of booking 2 J and K for the sector SYD/Perth but our boarding pass had us seated in 6A and 6J (for those that aren’t familiar with the Airbus 330 it’s the last two rows in J with the galley in-between) These must be the worst seats in J as you have the noise from the galley (s). The lady at the check-in said she was sorry but had no seats available together but should check again with the staff in the lounge. After some should I say (heated) discussion with the supervisor he promised he would contact Sydney and try to get us seats together. Within 10 minutes along came Mr Supervisor with new boarding passes seats 1 A and B, it seemed strange that suddenly these seats had become available…….. but we were not complaining. Moral being, sometimes its worth not just taking no for an answer!

By the way after all the complaining our flight out of BKK was delayed and we missed our connection in Sydney to be put on the next flight, with you guessed it seats 6 A and B, but at least we sat together………………….that’s life!

Kind regards, Traveller F

Re: Domestic seat selection. PS is it available to anyone yet?

Sorry to drag this back up again, but have any of the QP PS had any luck with their seat selection on their booking. Both my wife and I (PS) booked separate domestic trips SYD MEL and no options to select seats this week. On contacting QF ff we have both be given seats in the rear section, checkmy trip did not having any better. Rows 40+ in a 330 and 36 in a 767:evil:
We are looking for the t-80 timeframe to select better seats but this will be another phone call.
If you have been able to obtain the magical seat selection button, some advise on how to get it would be appreciated:)
Thanks to those PS that already have it - just left me wondering what really bad things I did in a previous life....

Sorry I can't help - I've just had it from when it was announced. The only thing I can think of, not that it should really make a difference, was that my only booking then (and still) is an International trip with domestic sectors ...

No I haven't got the Seat select button yet. But I'm sure I saw it greyed out when I was doing online checkin last Sunday at 6am. Unfortuantely, I didn't pay much attention as I was using iphone and I was half asleep. Just wanted to get on as quick as possible to try to score a decent seat and then get back to sleep. I haven't seen that button since, not when with online check in Thursday night or in any of my other bookings.

I can only again confirm - Allocated 38+ in a 763 then moved to 26 after T-80.

Current bookings are all 738s to MEL with exception of a DRW trip (row 38 currently) and best of any of the 738s is row 20 (one flight row 18 "off peak" time). Will have to wait and see what I can get at T-80.

You should be able to do better (online) at T-80 - if not there's a gremlin in your QFF and you'll have to call.
