Another challenge I have is with the timing...I'm in Perth, and so we had even less time (3 hours isn't a lot but it is if you're trying to get in contact with overseas or interstate colleagues to said aligning of plans) to get organised, and on top of that it was a public holiday long weekend here, which generated further complexity and effectively took a full day or trying to organise something away from me. All very much first world problems I know , but still it feels a lot like a promo you kind of have when you're not really expecting it cost you (Qantas in this case) too much?
Interested to get others' feedback on how they far more effectively than me plan around this promo...Is it the same time every year? Are there other tell tale signs I should look out for that hint its coming up and I should hold off on that booking you know you are going to make sometime soon?
Cheers,
M
It's all relative thought. I can think of arguments/situations to counter your points on timeings...
for example -
Promo was released at midnight AEDT - that's 9pm PER time - far more people may have been online looking around during a normal evening as opposed to after midnight - potentially some had a "head start" due to the timezone if they saw the promo before some others out east, or in NZ(for example) who may not have seen it till morning. Potential win for WA
It was a long weekend in WA? So most people had the day off on Monday? That gave them another 21 hours (given the timezone) to research and book flights rather than being at work like most of the rest of us. Potential win for WA.
It seems from the context of your comment that you were wanting to tee up Business trips... (I'm just guessing) - that suggests they are trips you'd be making anyway so really probably shouldn't be affected by any promo - except in terms of a nice synergy if the two can converge. As a P1 it seems to me that you personally are probably a fair flyer as it is and more likely than not would easily retain at least Platinum status in the next year without a promo. Sure DSC really helps (I am the first to admit this as I have taken advantage of this promo to assist my next year's P1 requal but I don't fly for Business).
Your personal situation aside, and EVERYONE has a personal situation - people away over the past week, or those drowned in shift work and unable to easily take advantage etc or thos on holiday and worked at it for 20 hours a day to max out their requirements (and have the handy budget to do so right now too).
The reality is that a) you can't please everyone all the time and b) the timing of the promo is *NOT* for we the customers.. It's for QF who want a revenue and booking injection. That's how it is. To twist a saying "It's not you, it's them"
Isn't this how life goes? Sometimes gems come along that are wonderful and perfect timing, and other times you just miss out.. like making a booking a wek before that huge sale came along.
It's life.
