Double SC for all! (Book until midnight 6th Mar, Travel Mar 2017 - Feb 19, 2018)

Another challenge I have is with the timing...I'm in Perth, and so we had even less time (3 hours isn't a lot but it is if you're trying to get in contact with overseas or interstate colleagues to said aligning of plans) to get organised, and on top of that it was a public holiday long weekend here, which generated further complexity and effectively took a full day or trying to organise something away from me. All very much first world problems I know :), but still it feels a lot like a promo you kind of have when you're not really expecting it cost you (Qantas in this case) too much?

Interested to get others' feedback on how they far more effectively than me plan around this promo...Is it the same time every year? Are there other tell tale signs I should look out for that hint its coming up and I should hold off on that booking you know you are going to make sometime soon?

Cheers,
M

It's all relative thought. I can think of arguments/situations to counter your points on timeings...

for example -

Promo was released at midnight AEDT - that's 9pm PER time - far more people may have been online looking around during a normal evening as opposed to after midnight - potentially some had a "head start" due to the timezone if they saw the promo before some others out east, or in NZ(for example) who may not have seen it till morning. Potential win for WA

It was a long weekend in WA? So most people had the day off on Monday? That gave them another 21 hours (given the timezone) to research and book flights rather than being at work like most of the rest of us. Potential win for WA.

It seems from the context of your comment that you were wanting to tee up Business trips... (I'm just guessing) - that suggests they are trips you'd be making anyway so really probably shouldn't be affected by any promo - except in terms of a nice synergy if the two can converge. As a P1 it seems to me that you personally are probably a fair flyer as it is and more likely than not would easily retain at least Platinum status in the next year without a promo. Sure DSC really helps (I am the first to admit this as I have taken advantage of this promo to assist my next year's P1 requal but I don't fly for Business).

Your personal situation aside, and EVERYONE has a personal situation - people away over the past week, or those drowned in shift work and unable to easily take advantage etc or thos on holiday and worked at it for 20 hours a day to max out their requirements (and have the handy budget to do so right now too).

The reality is that a) you can't please everyone all the time and b) the timing of the promo is *NOT* for we the customers.. It's for QF who want a revenue and booking injection. That's how it is. To twist a saying "It's not you, it's them" :D

Isn't this how life goes? Sometimes gems come along that are wonderful and perfect timing, and other times you just miss out.. like making a booking a wek before that huge sale came along.

It's life. :D

If I could choose the timing of this promo it'd be in the 2nd half of the year so when I book my winter getaway several months out on cheap fares I can use the promo, but unfortunately it seems that doesn't suit QANTAS.

A DSC promo at this time of year is way better than getting nothing.

Closer to $3k for the 1260, and that includes positioning flights, which are probably the worst value :p

If I could do the NZ flying then I probably would choose it over the NOU trip, but then I've never been there (and my 1 hour there counts OK) ;)
Of course it counts - but only if you leave the airport!

I think there's going to be very little chance of that unless I absolutely have to clear customs, at which point I'll race out to a cab rank and then go straight back in and through immigration, however I'm hoping it doesn't come down to that.

I know this is OT, and maybe we should start a thread about short turn around in NOU...but EF gives a MCT of 1 hour for NOU for Intl to Intl connection and QF91/92 is 55 minutes connection. The same day QF91/92 cannot be booked on QF.com. I'm no travel agent, but this looks suspicious. Hopefully I'm wrong!

Qantas should just sell WP status for $5k/yr.

How much would you like to fork out for a CL?

We chose a run to New York and Los Angeles so we get full value rather than spend an hour or two in some backwater.

$1 possibly.:) although everyone else gets it for free.:)

The answer is possibly a non - sequitur !

If you have to ask its ...... too expensive :D

I'm sure that their algorithm for the pax emailed is particular to those that are within (say IMO) 20% of the target SC's for the next level (a point at which QF think will turn the decision making on) or those that have just rolled-over an anniversary. Of course, we are not likely to ever know it, but we can speculate :D

Of course, reading their offer email also shows this nugget:

FWIW I received a 50% SC offer in January http://www.australianfrequentflyer....status-credits-offer-62099-4.html#post1572096 sitting on 2,025 SC with 6 weeks to go.

Couldn't be bothered 6 weeks ago ..... happy to oblige 6 weeks later ;)

Received the email on both occasions.

With the gift vouchers you bought you effectively are in control of the timing of this promo (assuming they continue to work as they did last year). Couldn't ask for much more from QF :)

Yes, let's all talk about these vouchers as much as possible!

The default gift design image is a present with a Merry Christmas tag. Even though I only buy vouchers for myself and never open the voucher PDF, my OCD forces me to select a different image since it's obviously not Christmas ...

Thanks for the input QF WP. I get the idea of tempting somebody to book quickly because they are hoping to cross into the next FF tier, but I think they underestimate the value in tempting those of us that just manage to qualify as well...This is my second year as a P1 but I think I made it over by perhaps one long haul J flight last year, and most recently that's because I did get the Business Direct 50% SC bonus email deal last year. They are the masters of 'big data' management, so they could easily tell where people like me would tip into deciding to book instead of delay a pending potential trip, knowing that it might make the difference in a few months...

Lots of good comments following up my post - more good input guys!

LOL... I've never purchased a voucher - care to tell me some more?

All the information you need re vouchers and any special property attached is in some of the 500+ posts of this thread ...

... some have taken their chances by purchasing them ...

Every time I buy a voucher, the email comes addressed to TomVexille. If he buys a voucher, it also comes addressed to him. How hard is it to address the person that actually made the purchase?
