Double Status Credits 2013

It depends how valuable Gold is to you and how many points you have available to burn. I'm thinking about doing my first JASA with the DSC but also sometimes think I'm being silly. I'm trying to find a good route where I can knock off 240 SC in one go from Sydney without having to overnight anywhere and I just don't think it can be done. I'll be in the same boat with you on a convoluted route and an overnight somewhere random. Why not? :P

I've sort've earned my 200,000 + points that i have sitting in my account. I can use that for a return trip to LAX or SCL next year, interesting going to SCL as there are hardly any CA seats available on QF27 & 28 more seats on LAN.

Still not sure about routing all the way to TSV just to get Gold.

240 total so 120 with DSC offer? or 480 total so 240 with DSC?

What Medhead said

485 total, so somewhere around 220-240 with DSC offer (as I should have a small work trip coming up which will cover the 20-30 difference)

Got the e-mail and my status year only started on March 1st!

yeah i got it too,

trying to figure out the best way to do a quick status run, (I usually make it to Platinum, and have a one way jasa coming up cbr-syd-lax. (return is classic))

neither are within the double sc period.

looking at cbr-syd-hba-syd-cbr, return in a day, but not sure if there's somewhere else which yields better sc/$.

Maybe a bit expensive on points, but SYD-ADL-PER return. And it can be done in a day. 140 each way = 280, then x2 = 560. Negative is sitting in a 737 ADL-PER and in fact probably a 737 the whole way.

I can't find any availablility, it looks like the return in one day option is only for weekends going by the flight schedule and it's all booked up as far as I can tell. I don't really want to burn more than 50K points plus about $300 cash. I've considered SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-DAR or SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-ADL or incorporating the TSV-BNE-MEL-AKL with a paid flight to get back to Sydney but the timetables just don't allow that to happen in one day. These routes I'm taking off the status run thread and trying to tie two together but I think I'll be out of luck.

Maybe something like SYD-CBR return and CBR-xSYD-HBA return. 80x2 and 160x2

Thrilled I made the cut in the mysterious awarding of a DSC offer. I am making a run for WP after only just making SG earlier this year. Most of my flying is self-funded or on discount economy fares domestically between CBR, SYD, MEL, BNE or OOL, which makes for a lot of flights to get SG as it is. I have just booked JASA from CBR-SYD-HBA (16k points and $130) and HBA-MEL-SYD-OOL (24k points and $160) with a return leg in Y from OOL-SYD-CBR ($170). Besides, this makes for a great weekend out of town!

I am pretty sure there are more CL and WPs in Canberra than other pax, so it will be nice to join the WP club! :D

Rec'd the offer. I've hit WP and am no chance of WP1 by 30June. I need 165 SCs (doubling to 330) to hit 2400 and collect 50k points. 160 seems easy (PER-ADL-PER in J) and the other 5 would have to be a 1 way PER-KGI. All up around $2k. My dilemma, is it worth spending the money to grab the bonus points?

$2000 of your own money to get 50,000 QFF points? IMO that's a pretty bad deal.

Well it would be 50k plus whatever you'd earn flying say another 12.5k. I was leaning that way. I guess I'll leave it and see what happens regarding work travel.

This is great but can't be done in a day, the CBR-xSYD-HBA return plus getting back to Sydney CAN be done, but the flight out from Canberra is at 7.30am which means an overnighter. It does look attractive besides the overnight

Try CBR-SYD-ADL return, it can be done in a day. For example this Saturday you could leave at 0640 and be back at 1615.

Not sure if it available for a JASA but worth a look for a day return.

Need to leave from Sydney, the problem before was that the flight from canberra was too early to get there first from Sydney. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to overnight somewhere

Per-syd-cairns is the best earn from Perth within 24hours with no overnighting 320 (640) doubled for 72k

Does the DSC promotion happen regularly? I've recently (last year) switched to QFF after being with Star Alliance for so long, and recently got the email (April, May June DSC) and my year ends June 30. Bronze now, may make Silver with this promo. While this year will be ok, a few local flights, next year we'll be doing a bit of overseas J travel and this could be a lot more beneficial then - Gold easily with DSC. Especially if it comes at the same time.

Thanks

For some YES and for others NO.
There seems to be little logic to the selection.

YMMV

I am pretty chuffed as I have received my first DSC offer. For 15 years I have been happy enough with being a NB and have chased points to use on classic awards. Then I discovered AFF and managed to find cheap fares for J international travel which I had previously only dreamed of. Next you taught me about JASAs which I previously couldnt see the point off, and now I am considering doing a status run. I hope this addiction doesn't get worse...

So from being a NB at the beginning of my year to now potentially qualifying for WP, could someone please suggest a good run to earn 350 SC from BNE? (ie 175SCs which are then doubled). I was going to just book a JASA to ADL via MEL or SYD each way but I thought there may have been a better option out there. My year ends Friday May 31, so if an overnighter is involved I can always have some points starting off my new year.

Thanks
