Will 3C become the top Y seat? Infinite legroom, apart from cart crossings?

There should be no cart crossing at row three. J class carts will come from fwd galley and Y carts from rear galley. Unless the crew do something "weird".

The aircraft type is listed as Not Available. I also tracked its subsequent legs and found it will operate DJ1555 SYD-HVB, DJ1554 HVB-SYD, DJ654 SYD-CBR, DJ661 CBR-SYD then DJ1429 SYD-CNS (where I assume it will overnight) before returning to SYD on 8NOV as DJ1408.
Then it'll be DJ1627 SYD-AYQ, and back to SYD as DJ1628, onto MEL as DJ876. Can't see where it'll go next.

I find it weird they're deploying this to an all-economy route like HVB.

More tracking

DJ1394 BNE-ADL
DJ1405 ADL-BNE

So... the Virgin website says business class guests on an E190 get two leather seats. Anyone want to press DJ for compensation when they fly in a refitted E190 and have to suffer the ignominy of someone sitting beside them? :p

I flew this baby Uluru to Sydney (AYQ-SYD) on Tuesday (was quietly surprised when I went to chose my seat). I chose 2A. It is almost identical to the pic. Business service (which I also had on the old 2x2 seating on the way to Uluru on Saturday). Started with the cranberry mocktail and then normal business lunch (penne pasta or the pumpkin feta salad).

I was going to take photos, but I hadnt logged online for some time so didnt know there would be no photos on here. Essentially it was the 737 business seat, with the purple perspex separator, a bend in the aisle as pictured and the bending snake which they click in place to seperate business from economy on the other craft. The luggage storage above the A seating seemed smaller than the luggage space above in the 2x2 arrangement.

I found the A seats to be amazing for space and prefer them to the 737 business seat. For 669 one way to uluru I found it very affordable compared to Qantas (wine and catering loading issues aside).

The row 3 space appeared much bigger than the 737 space for the same row. It appeared to be big enough to swing the proverbial cat!

There was also no cart crossing at row 3, and the business seats did not have a foot rest!

Will 3C become the top Y seat? Infinite legroom, apart from cart crossings?

Not quite as the bulkhead extends halfway across in front of 3C.

And there are cart crossings contrary to other posts. The rubbish collection cart came from the front on my flight last night, the whole way through.

The seats were comfortable, but there are a few issues with this config:

- Row 3 gets virtually no overhead storage due to the bend in the lockers.
- Left hand side lockers in J are useless as they are very narrow.
- 3C gets no seat pocket, so has to share with 3A - there was only 1 Voyeur magazine, 1 safety card (which I didn't think would be allowed), and (with potential to be quite revolting) 1 air sick bag!
- Air con vents and light switches are virtually un-reachable from the 1D and 2D due to the locker design
- Still no IFE - surely this should have been done as part of the refit

Good things:
- Single seat in J if you're by yourself and the cabin is full (although if not full I'd take two seats to spread out)
- Seats 3D and 3F would be the pick in Y - both have the full legroom to stretch out, and their own seat pockets

Maybe if they removed 3C, that would alleviate some of the above mentioned issues. 3A would be a great seat on a full plan in that case.

Suppose then again, the issues would be inherited by 4C if that were to happen, but at least it would make more room for the rubbish cart.

Speaking of sick bags, I've never seen one being used, apart from my first ever flight in 2005 at the ripe age of 28! This was on some BA turboprop from Belfast to Manchester on a very windy day and the plane was all over the place causing quite a bit of sickness on the plane. I felt a bit queasy myself and had a 7.5 hour flight to Chicago after this, which I wasn't looking forward to based on my first experience of flying. I wasn't to know at this stage that the bigger plane would be a lot more stable.

You wont see IFE on E190 or non Live to Air 737's until the trials for CASA are completed with VH-YID. Once that has happened it is reportedly going to be a fairly quick transition.

The tablets have been confirmed as the long term IFE for all aircraft for J class, and as yet to be decided for Y class. The new sytem is wireless connection. This will give acces to multiple movies, TV programmes, Music and games. Allowing use of own devices or VA tablets. You can start watching something on one aircraft and continue on your next leg. The system is supposed to be being installed in all the Lounges as well so you can start your movie in the Lounge and finish watching on board.
Tablets are being used by QF/JQ as well. No cost conscious airline is going to install very heavy (fuel costly) and expensive in seat systems for domestic use, especially as in seat systems become outdated and then have to go through very expensive upgrades, which takes aircraft off line for days. The new systems which VA and QF are switching to can be installed in one or two nights when the aircraft has terminated requiring no offline time. And can be replaced or upgraded quickly. The example given is that Live 2 Air cost over 1 million per aircraft, and a further 1.5 million to remove (having to plug hole in fuselage.) The new system for VA is around $350,000 per aircraft and requires no internal / external mods to a/c.

I believe the next on to be done is VH-ZPA as it ferried to Christchurch this morning as its rego like VH-ZPE when it went.

Found this thread after another one talking about unhappy with J in current 2 x 2 E190 config.

I fly the Air Canada E190 with 1, 2 config quite regularly and it works well. Row 1 legroom is a bit limited by the bulkhead (dunno if DJ will have the same of course) , but the aisle seat of the pair in row 1 allows stretching of legs beyond the bulkhead.

The main drawback of the AC config is that the overhead lockers above the single 'A' seat are very small (about 1/2 the depth of the other side). They have to be pared back as of course the aisle is not centred through the J cabin. There isn't usually a problem however as FAs put the carry-on of late boarding J pax into the coat cupboard by the galley. However I have seen some very unhappy late Js where there is no room for their carry-ons other than 'under the seat in front of them'.

Standard Air Canda IFE system in the back of the seat in front.
