How long does it take for the voucher to be sent to your email ??

I bought a voucher Thursday however have seen no confirmation as yet.

Is QF overwhelmed?

I haven't received my vouchers also purchased on Thursday.
Silly me, didn't note the booking references.
Rang 131313 this morning, they can't help.
Looks like chargeback if they don't come through.

Just out of interest, how much do you travel? That is $10K worth of travel when you can only use a max of $500 on any flight (internationally $500 on any return flight because it doesn't make sense to purchase two one ways plus you can't use it ex non-Oz). Either you own your own business and do a lot of travel with that or you much do an enormous amount of leisure travel.

You are really living up to your screen name!!

I have a good mix of vouchers which should allow me to maximize their usage without having to pay anything extra so it can still be about $5000 worth of flights!

Most are $100/$150/$200 vouchers

I bought one a couple of days ago and the voucher arrived via email within an hour.

The points, on the other hand, haven't arrived yet. I suppose this will take a while.

I don't drink alcohol so don't frequent too many pubs (especially with a 2year old in tow) - Macdonals playgrounds don't appear to be a regular party venue for AFF'ers

I do tend to frequent McDonalds after the pub, but probably too late for a 2 year old to be there... ;)

In regards to vouchers coming through, the first did, the second hasn't but I took note of the voucher ref. Just hoping it's on its way and only slow because of the weekend.

Vouchers tend to come through within an hour for me too, but I make sure I note the Reference number also. Unlike what (samh004?) reported earlier, I usually wait until I receive the email before trying to use the voucher, as I've previously had trouble trying to use it straight away (as in right then as soon as I've got the reference number) and I assumed it was due to the system still processing and generating/finalising the voucher in the system etc. Perhaps they've cleaned this process up: I haven't tried -- I still wait for the email to come through and then go and book.

Still haven't received the PDF itineraries for the flights I've booked from two separate vouchers - one from Thursday and one yesterday, and still haven't received any updated vouchers with the remaining value.

I also note that you don't actually receive a Tax Invoice when buying a gift voucher. Anyone had any experience in obtaining one for the purchase?

My experience too. Playing to points waiting game...

I bought one a couple of days ago and the voucher arrived via email within an hour.

The points, on the other hand, haven't arrived yet. I suppose this will take a while.

You may be right:

Qantas Frequent Flyer points may take up to 8 weeks to be credited to your account.

As vouchers can be used for domestic or international purposes, they cannot know whether or not there is any GST, so I don't think they would issue a Tax Invoice until the actual travel is booked.

Good point, which is why I usually rely on the PDF itinerary to come through, which hasn't happened yet. Their handling of vouchers is a bit "two-steps forward, one step back"...

Last year's lot started to appear in our QFF accounts around February 6th.

Keep in mind its best to avoid using these for periods where you have been lucky to get a double SC promo, as the date generated is seen as the booking date for the subsequent flights, resulting in follow up calls to QFF to sort out!
How does this work if you were to use a $50 voucher towards a $2,500 ticket? Would you still miss out on the DSC? Which date would Qantas use, the date of purchase of the $50 voucher or the date of th $2,450 spend?

You wont miss out, if things have not changed (and its likely they have) you will just have to chase it up with the call centre.

Historically does this count as Qantas spend in terms of triggering the extra point per dollar spent on a credit card?

Emailed Qantas Customer Help last night, more helpful then the lady on the phone yesterday morning
who was very rude. Her attitude picked up after telling her so. Vouchers came through
this morning, must have been a glitch in the Qantas system somewhere.

No need to chargeback which is good.

The use of Qantas Vouchers can invalidate the free credit card travel insurance provided by Zurich Insurance.

I've just received written confirmation of this from Zurich. Even if you purchase the Qantas voucher with the same credit card, your free travel insurance benefit may become void.

The reason, according to Zurich is that the ticket must be purchased with the card. Purchasing a voucher is not purchasing a ticket. Some cards require that the ticket is fully purchased using the card, others might have minimum percentage requirement.

Free travel insurance that can be affected includes cards issued by the following:

ANZ Aussie
Bank of Melbourne
Bank of Queensland
BankSA
Bankwest
Citibank
Card services
Commonwealth Bank
Diners Club
HSBC
St. George
Suncorp Bank
Virgin Money
Westpac

For Citibank cards (mine) they quote the following:

Cardholders are eligible for this International Travel Insurance, iftheir overseas travel ticket was obtained by one of the following methods:
• the cost of the overseas travel ticket was charged to the cardholder’s Card; or
• the overseas travel ticket was obtained by the cardholder under the Citibank Travel Program; or
• as a member of the Citi Rewards Program, the cardholder redeemed their frequent flyer points in exchange for the overseas travel ticket. Provided that within one month prior tothe redemption, the cardholder had transferred at least 15,000 Citi Reward Points from their Citi Rewards Program to the said frequent flyer program.
Please note that no cover is provided under
the International Travel Insurance Policy when the overseas travel tickets have been fully or partially obtained by redeeming points or rewards from schemes other than as outlined above.

This is a big minus in using the vouchers for me. I'll buy some for domestic travel only.

It would not be hard to get more value out of the promo than the $250-300 it costs for an annual policy which is likely to offer more benefits than a freebie, while being tax deductible for many as well.

I guess if you conservatively value QFF points at 1 cent each, you'd need to buy around $3,000 in vouchers to earn back the $300 annual travel insurance cost. Or just buy travel insurance on individual trips as you need it as you'd still save the $30.00 card fee when redeeming the vouchers for international tickets.

Still, it's a big minus for me - takes the shine off at least. :(
