This morning, I received the same nappy offer I received (and used) a few weeks ago. Off to Woolies to buy 2 boxes of Huggies @ $66 for a cool bonus 350 points.:D Never ever thought I would be happy about th enumber of nappies I have to change (or buy)

Now 2 weeks ago I easily outspent mrsdrron at Woollies yet she gets the offers. So again I dont think it is spend that brings in the offers.
I still maintain that it is a relatively random process that occasionally may have some substance.

I do not believe Woolworths systems are that sophisticated and from my experience usually IT receives a request to provide an extract of the customer database using some predefined parameters and that list is then culled further before sending mailouts on in this case emails.

Can't say too much more as I am involved in providing and supporting extracts, not Woolweorths, and believe the IT programming/SQL is not that sophisticated.

I got 2 offers this week - 2 of the same ones shintaro10x received.
I keep swiping my card at Big W, even for purchases under $30 to try and trigger an offer there, but so far no luck.

I agree.

I have had very few (read non) offers lately and I have not been spending much at Woollies either. This week I got the spend $90 on booze offer.

  • I randomly get a total of one to two offers each and every week
  • I randomly get 4 offers to Woolworths Liquor every month
  • I randomly get two to four Woolworths & Big W offers every month
Mrs Shintaro is more random than me and only gets random offers every two to three weeks, and she is the main spender...

I of course got no offer but mrsdrron got 2.
BWS-buy 2 750ml bottles of wine for 300 bonus points.
Woollies-spend $40-100 bonus points,$55-150 points,$70-250 points and a week to do it in!

Wow;). It's $90 for 150 points in PER.

That can still be random.

Try to explain it in another way. I have almost ruined my life gambling. Mainly slot machines but horses as well. I have lost hundreds and thousands in a day and i have gotten very little in return. At the end of the day everyone loses but the payout are not the same.

I hardly ever have a payout and have had payouts of $1,000+ on no more than ~10 occasions in my life. Serious. I am not joking.

I know friends who have regular payouts daily (still lose) and have collected $1,000+ hundreds of times in the same period. In fact one of them have collected $3,000+ with an outlay of $10 on the day.

Guess what? The events described above are still random....

My understanding of random is "events not following a set pattern" now in my example I get EDR offers every week 95%-97% of the time (this has been correct for the last 8 months). Now you are correct that since I have not received an offer 100% of the time it can be argued as being random, but I see a clear pattern which generally follows a general set pattern.

I actually have more offers than I need and can use, such a pity some have very few offers and have a different random than I... :(

Using your logic my offers are totally random.

I received a lot of offers when they initially started, now I only get offers with my quarterly statement.
My weekly shop (for 6) is always at Woolies, with a huge bill, I figure they have worked out I'm not worth targeting :(

Will be another 1300-1600 Bonus for me again this week ;)

Quarterly offers only for me these days. Used to get weekly offers failed to activate just one about 6 months ago and that was the last random one :(

For anyone in doubt about the level of precision with which Woolworths tracks your purchases, share with me in what I discovered this morning.. (in retrospect I shouldn't have been surprised!)

I installed the new Woolworths iPhone app and put in my everyday rewards details. This generated a list of recommended specials for me. The items on that list matched exactly with the items I've bought there over the last year, even the same brands. It is easy for me to tell because I mostly buy Aldi/Coles but for occasional items each week at WOW.

So I can only conclude that if we're not getting promotions (and I'm not either), then it's for a reason. Now to figure out what that is :-P

Just got this rather nice targeted email, can’t post the link as it includes my email address, but here’s an image, hopefully everyone got it:

Even 100% can be random, it just has an exceeding low probability of happening. I once encountered a place that used excel to randomly select people for workplace testing. Trouble was the excel random number generator is (was) not random. Could be an IT thing. Maybe they use excel.

I got 10c offer. Much prefer the points!

On that note.. have noticed points are taking ages to post at the moment!

Was filling up with fuel today and the attendant swiped the card and said no offers left. I replied that I had points and he said he wished they would change it so they knew.

His boss was listening and said that there was going to be an update on the computer next week that would let them know that the customer was getting points instead of cents off.

If correct it will be a very welcome change for all involved.
