EDR Targeted Bonus Point Promotions

I have taken a more realistic view by thinking about my use by date so we are earning and burning points seeing we are in our sixties. There is still the thrill of the points chase and EDR is one of the funnier ways to earn those points without too much trouble.
10 million points would be like 10 million in cash where you have to keep active to get the best safe return while you work on spending it. Points spending can get you to so many fun places both in Australia and overseas. With the Aussie dollar starting to look vulnerable doing something now has a great ring to it.
I think 1,000,000 QFF points would be more than enough for me and then I start spending them on economy Oneworld awards to maximise places I visit. Not a lot of time on my hands now spending most free time in Thailand but I do want to do a tour of Northern Europe soon(ish). And technically still in my forties so in theory plenty of time left to enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Having managed to attract a number of offers lately, keeping track of them is becoming the problem. But you need to do so as EDR is notoriously unreliable in correctly posting bonus points in particular, in my experience.

I have a little system where I print the offer, write date of activation, make purchase and staple receipt to offer, and then go into the EDR website to check it. This is made very difficult because the EDR system doesn't note the date of purchase, rather it seems to list the date that the points are posted. Given the time lag, and that multiple purchases are made, reconciling the events in this soup of indicative dates can be very difficult indeed.

I feel like a I need an EDR book-keeper! Does anyone have any ideas to make it easier to keep track and to make sure what's owing is given?

I just tag the emails in my inbox, then write the offer and expected points on the receipt, which I keep till they get transferred to QF. I have had points post to EDR then disappear, so I don't toss them till the points are really mine.

Shintaro10x and Lindsay Wilson developed a spreadsheet for keeping track of points earned and posted. I have streamlined it a little so if you would like to pm me your email address I can email it to you (I haven't quite got the hang of adding an attachment to a post).

Not that hard if you really try!
To spend 1,000,000 QFF points? Not hard but is not easy either. At 1 Oneworld economy award a year for the next 7 years by which time I will probably have accumulated another 1,000,000 QFF points. Is Qantas likely to be around in 14 years?

That's true but if I had 1M points I wouldn't be only flying economy nor restricting myself to 1 flight a year. If that all you want/need thats great but if I was getting close to 1M I suspect I'd certainly have widened my horizons beyond just that!

I guess we all think differently, have different different needs and place different importance on various things.

I see the best value in economy and I could only afford to go on 1 Oneworld award per year as I still want to go to Thailand 3-4 times per year. I do not see any value in spending 120,000 QFF points to Thailand in business class every trip as a paid economy flight costs ~AU800 and earns another ~20,000 QFF points which can go towards the next Oneworld award.

But that's the point of this conversation isn't it, you can only afford to go on one Oneworld award per year because of your points, if you had say 2M you could go on 2 (or more) plus possibly have some of them in business. So it seems to me that possibly having even 1M points in your situation is a limitation after all!

Not at all. Time is my limitation.

If I go on a Oneworld award I would like to spend 3-4 weeks away and with 8-9 weeks already spent in Thailand we are getting up to 12 year. So that is 6 week paid leave and 6 week unpaid leave which is Ok but leaves the resources a little thin.

As for having a endless supply of points that is not going to happen this lifetime so I need to ration my points and use them where I perceive best value.

Got that but 200 points for $80 spend… knew I should have let dad put the shopping on his card not mine, now my spending habits have been skewed again :p

Mmm seafood doesn't freeze that well. So it's lucky it's only one time use, or you'd be eating a heck of a lot of salmoncalamariprawnbasaoyster :)

Tiered coffee offer for me.

$25-29 - 100 points
$30-34 - 150 points
$35 or more - 200 points

The required spend is rising!!!

Ah, that is interesting. I have a tiered coffee offer too. But mine provides 250 points for $20 of coffee:

$10 - $14 100 points
$15 - $19 150 points
$20 or more 250 points

Perhaps they've worked out that your elasticity of demand for coffee is much less than mine; ie, you regularly buy coffee irrespective of price, whereas my coffee purchases are much more price sensitive and therefore I need a good offer to entice me to purchase. Their modelling is indeed right (because I buy my coffee elsewhere) so I'll reward their price sensitive offer with my custom!
