EDR Targeted Bonus Point Promotions

Things didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to at Woolworths/EDR today, however I'm guessing if I dispute the transaction I might be able to get the missing discount funds sent as a gift card like other members have received. It's a gamble but I think it's worth the effort. I'll let you know the full story once the matter is resolved.

The matter above has now been resolved so I'll explain what happened. As I mentioned earlier in the thread I had three email offers on the weekend. The first was $10 off for getting the transaction to $80, the second was $5 off $30 and the third one was 20% off fresh meat. I got the transaction total to $80.90 which included about $32 of fresh meat. My EDR card had already been swiped and at that point no discounts had come off the transaction. When the operator went to the payment screen the $5 came off the total as well as the meat discount but the $10 didn't come off. Several things could have happened. There was nothing on the meat offer about when the discount would apply and there was nothing in the $5 and $10 off conditions about these discounts being applied after all other discounts (which is something the flybuys offers have). During the 6 week coupon campaign the $ off coupons applied before the product based offers so I figured this set of discounts would apply the same way.

I disputed the transaction with EDR using their contact us form and received a reply today to say that a $10 gift card will arrive at my address in 2-3 weeks time. They agreed that I'd met all the requirements for the discount and that the reward should have been applied at the time. I figured seeing that other members had had problems with this promotion and the terms and conditions were unclear that they'd have to pay the $10 one way or anther. In some ways I've made a bit of a profit from the situation. The $10 off would have lowered the price of the meat overall so the 20% discount of what was left would have been less than the discount that was taken off. I've probably saved an extra $1 or so by claiming the discount later. I would rather have had everything work correctly the first time. It was a hassle having to chase everything up later.

My eldest son had a 'robust discussion' on EDR LiveChat today regarding a 300 point bonus that did not post. He spent the qualifying amount but it included an OPAL top-up and an Amaysim top-up. The agent said they don't qualify. The email making the offer said in a footnote that 'The qualifying amount excludes selected purchases including liquor, smoking/tobacco products, gift cards and selected services'. The agent kept saying they are 'selected services'. Nowhere in the email did it define selected services so he asked the agent to send him an email with Woolworths definition of 'selected services'. The agent ignored him and ended the call when he persisted. My son is a law student and was a bit flabbergasted by the response. EDR are on shaky ground if they can't even backup their own statements with evidence. Has anyone else had this problem?

As a family we are moving more and more towards FlyBuys. Their posting of bonus points has really improved whereas EDR bonuses never seem to post and you always have to follow up. This sort of encounter drives us more and more towards Coles when this time last year we were firmly in the Woollies camp.

Just to report back on this. The 300 point bonus posted just after Christmas. My son decided he couldn't be bothered to follow up so Woollies system must have recognised the spend as qualifying itself. Makes a fool of the LiveChat people and seems to give the green light to OPAL and Amaysim top-ups as qualifying transactions.

Sister for this weekend $80/500 or $120/750 at WW.
Me another this week 1000 bonus points for $275 spend. I politely told them we only might spend that amount at Christmas.
Brother for this week $80/500 or $120/750 at WW.

Mine is 500/750 for $80/$120 again. Didn't hit the target last week so they are trying again.

I actually did hit the target last week so quite strange they sent exactly the same offer this week.
Have activated but wont meet the spend requirement so will use a different card in the hopes it sparks some lower spend offers.

Other Sister got a offer of 15% off her shopping when she spends $50. Very interesting, as the offer doesn't mention if it is just for the $50 or for the total shop. Nothing in the T&C's.

Did our weekly shop last night, and realised at the checkout that our offer was from today to Thursday. Completely useless, never going to spend that amount mid-week.

I have a theory that offers for the next week are prepared while the current offer is active so they are not aware if you have achieved or not.

Not too sure about that JohnK.Whilst we were away I was getting 1 or 2 EDR offers each week.Got home on a Thursday, activated the offer for 500/750 for $120/160.Acheived the target as we were restocking.Since then no further offers.I have started getting 2 emails a week for specials at bigW though.Totally useless.

Any factual data to back up your theory? Link perhaps?

Boo! $20 discount vouchers have stopped and back onto points offers. $120/750. Btw I have a $20 discount voucher in Adelaide expiring Wednesday that can't be used if anyone wants it. Forgot I could use it for $200 Opal top up.

Facts? Don't have any sorry.

I work in IT and also manage 4 accounts. From personal experience I see the same offer twice (eg 250 bonus points for $50 spend) before new offer is increased if the previous offer has been taken up.

Also if offers are sent out on a Monday someone didn't just press a button the night before and send them out. They will run some sort of trial run. Confirm all is OK then send out offers. The most recent shopping pattern is still happening and all the data not in.

Just a theory.

I think your theory is a possibility. One of our accounts got a "we miss you" offer a couple of days after making a $60 purchase. I've often thought the offers are in the EDR system 1 to 2 weeks before they are actually emailed. Someone on this thread once commented on a discussion with an EDR call centre person. Evidence suggested the call centre staff member could see that an offer would be sent out on a particular account the following week.

That's also a possibility. No guarantee you will receive follow up offers once you achieve a target for a particular offer.

My comment was more in relation to offers being prepared in advance.

Yesterday I spent $160 at Woollies Town Hall Sydney to redeem the '750 points for $160 spend' offer. I topped up our families 5 OPAL cards, most of which had low balances (between $5-$15). The staff did not want to do this in one transaction saying their 'policy' was individual transactions. I knew this to be incorrect as I have topped up at least 2 OPAL cards on one transaction several times so stood my ground. They backed down and rung up the 5 transactions on the till and I paid for them with 5% off WISH cards and then they recharged the OPAL cards. Now let us see if the 750 bonus points post! I will report back.

I also did $100 Opal top up yesterday and $25 of shopping to hit the $120 target.
Please report back on whether your points post. I did no shopping as such - OPAL top-ups only. However my past experience suggests we should both get our bonus points.
