EDR Targeted Bonus Point Promotions

If you only earn edr points on transactions over $30, why do they always ask you for your loyalty card if the transaction is under $30?

Because there are also separate price discounts for edr cards, both general and targeted. Bonus points offers can involve less than $30 spend. Not mention tracking you purchases and selling the data.

Firstly, the staff have been trained to do it and it's part of the the staff routine. They can probably get in trouble for not doing it.

Secondly, perhaps they've been told that targeted offers sometimes apply to transactions under $30. My best result was 100 points for a 20 cent apple purchase.

Thirdly, WW/EDR want to collect as much data as possible about spending habits and want the WW staff to help collect that information.

I guess we were both typing together. Good point about the EDR discounts.

Triggered a 250 points/$30 tonight.

Waste cash offer is $75 for 3x$250. Spend that every week anyway. 10% discount.

The gift cards for higher targets don't seem to be very good value, compared to the amount you have to spend to get them. It's just another example of the idea that loyalty programs reward you less the more you spend with them.
Spot on.

I don't quite understand the spend $50 x 3 to receive a $50 gift card while there are other people out there that receive spend $100 x 3 to receive a $50 gift card or spend $135 x 3 to receive a $40 gift card or spend $200 x 3 to receive a $50 gift card.

Some of these offers make no sense.

Facts? Don't have any sorry.

I work in IT and also manage 4 accounts. From personal experience I see the same offer twice (eg 250 bonus points for $50 spend) before new offer is increased if the previous offer has been taken up.

Also if offers are sent out on a Monday someone didn't just press a button the night before and send them out. They will run some sort of trial run. Confirm all is OK then send out offers. The most recent shopping pattern is still happening and all the data not in.

Just a theory.

Due to sheer volume of data handling and emails to be sent out (as well as emails being sent out before previous offer has expired) is proof of validity.

Also, away since late Dec. Offers for WoW and C continued unabated at pre-departure levels until 3rd week of Jan and have been declining since then.

With such large volumes and the aim of profit maximisation. The algorithms will allow a time delay so that random events such as illness (cold/flue/worse), car accident or short holiday break do not cause them to offer people an unnecessary 'enhancement' {No, not a Q 'enhancement}.

Dad - 1000 bonus points for $275 spend
Brother - 1000 bonus points for $275 spend

LOL!
Definitely time to encourage them to get additional UNLINKED cards so that the hurdle amounts fall. Hardly any extra time at the checkout, just put the dividing barrier in between the purchases and hey presto they're on their way to doubling their Q points earnings.

The more information the algorithm can obtain the better it is in 'managing' to upscale your spending. If you regularly buy a certain size high value item (deodorant say) as a stand alone transaction (mid week 2 or 3 item shop) then after a while they will try and entice you to a large size/more expensive alternative brand or ensure you do not receive any offers to buy at a discount for that item.

As the word/knowledge began to spread a few years back WoW who unlike C has the >$30 spend hurdle found that for some strange reason that many higher value spending customers only had once a week transactions whereas previously they may have had one big spend with 2 or 3 minor spends per week.

So they tried a few different methods to get you to swipe every transaction such as EDR only discounts - to modify your behaviour. Time to watch Soylent Green again! What you don't know can't hurt you can it?

Knowing that a reasonable proportion of people have both WoW and C schemes combined with some data mining showed that savvy customers played one scheme off against the other - shock horror.

So offers are targeted where possible to coincide with normal periodicity of irregular high profit (for the chains) purchases such as deodorants, premium fresh meats, etc. Non-perishables are their Achilles heel allowing people to achieve hurdle spends which is why the hurdle levels keep increasing until you regularly fail or only just qualify.

Hence having separate accounts for all in family...

Quite easy to do. I helped out on the weekend. ;)

When you say unlinked cards, are you talking about the linkage of fuel vouchers (and that we should not do that fuel voucher link)?

ing home for example
Sign up for a new card in say partner's name, or another person who is happy for you to do it (eg: relative in a nursing home for example).

DO NOT make it a supplementary card or link in any way. That way it becomes treated as another customer to 'fleece' ie independent.

As for fuel vouchers, if spend is barely above $30 I will still NOT ude the EDR card and simply cut the 4 cent voucher off the dockeet and slip it in my wallet or wife's purse whoever is due to buy first.

I'm not sure I follow. I cannot find any way to make an EDR membership supplementary to another (unlike Flybuys, where you can request supplementary card holders).
All you can do is link fuel vouchers at https://www.everydayrewards.com.au/edr/myrewards/forms/auth/link-cards
I have had that linkage for years, and it seems to make absolutely no difference to the offers we get. MrsDeKa gets larger goals, and I get smaller goals. They are almost always different (eg I might get $80 and $100 for 500 and 750 points, and MrsDeKa $120 and $160 for 500 and 750 points).

The algorithm looks at the total linked cards and allocates the offers accordingly. Have totally discreet and never associated accounts generates better offers. Initially years ago linked two cards together - bad move. Subsequently 2 new accounts created for different people within family and shift spending to maximise offers.

The two linked accounts NEVER get offers as worthwhile as the two independent accounts receive.

I don't understand it either - I've just received an offer for $75 x 3 for a $25 gift card, which is rather pathetic compared to offers other have received. The last one was worse - $100 x 3 (which is well above my usual spend anyway) for only a $20 gift card!

We have two accounts linked by fuel vouchers and keep the other accounts as unlinked. I personally haven't seen a problem with a decline in offers for the linked cards. My partner's card (the linked one) still gets really good offers if we don't use it for a month or so even if my card has been used during that time. The other unlinked cards usually also get good offers but nothing better than the ones on the linked cards. I don't want to link up all the cards just in case you are right and also I don't want to make it too obvious that we have more than two accounts for the one family.

Just got one for a targeted offer on a product similar to the one Mrs QF WP buys. But targeted towards buying for our kids. Sorry, relegated to the electronic wastepaper bin.
