Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card

Particularly when you churn only for the free joining points.
I have been giving this matter considerable thought - I wonder what - if any - inducements / promotions Woolworths might instigate to stop the flight away from their card.

I intend to cancel mine in next day or 2 - I have the points - I still get the QFF bonus points if I use only EDR card - and I still use AMEX for ALL purchases in store to get 1.5:$1 - what incentive is there for me to keep the WWEDRCC?

Unfortunately my Amex spend is still falling as a percentage as more businesses stop accepting or excessively surcharge the card. At this time the Amex is only just ahead. Meanwhile I'm at least earning points now on things such as registering my vehicles (including CTP in SA) and so many other places that only accept Visa and MC.

And of course I'm currently enjoying the extra 10c per litre fuel discount through using my WW Qantas card with ePump.

I'll keep the card at least until something better comes along (Coles have bought out NAB's stake in FlyBuys and apparently want to better leverage spending patterns etc - so keep eyes open there.)

Personally I don't think their customer support systems are mature enough yet to have thought about retention tactics anyhow.

Richard.

Thought about it then put a personal quarterly tax payment on it as that meets their rules.

That's what I did as well. I wish I was still a contractor so I could make squillions of points out of paying BAS statements with a points earning card :(

19 JAN 11 WOOLWORTHS QANTAS CREDIT CRD 17JAN11 16k
04 DEC 10 ANZ FF VISA CARD 03DEC10 16k
15 SEP 10 NAB QANTAS REWARDS 14SEP10 10k
WWEDRCC 16,000pts
NAB Qantas Plat Amex Visa 20,000pts
ANZ Qantas Plat Amex Visa 20,000pts = Total 56,000pts for me.

But here is the thing - today called ANZ and cancelled card - it was activated and used 1 time only for small purchase - 20,000pts in QFF account - guy I spoke to at ANZ this morning said he will cancel card and refund me the fees.

I did not argue - asked him about bonus QFF points - no you keep them he said - annual fee will be reimursed - go figure.

Also spoke to EDR and reduced my current credit limit down from $16,000 to $2,000 - I will hold onto the WWEDRCC and just see if WW offer any promos / incentives to holders before I cancel it also just shy of the renewal date.

My experience so far:

14 November: Applied on-line for the credit card
6 December: Nothing heard or received, so rang to enquire. Told that a letter was sent
on 1 December
17 December: Still no letter received. Rang again to enquire. Another letter will be sent
24 December: Nothing received as yet

Since then:

29 December: Still nothing received. Told that another letter is being sent today.

10 January: Now 8 weeks after application. Still nothing received by mail. Rang again to be told to wait a bit longer for the letter of 29th December to arrive.

Have been told that conditional approval was given on 1st December, subject to 100 point ID check.

Not looking too good at this stage.

Finally. I now have the card.

After numerous phone calls during December and January, where I was told that a total of 5 letters had been sent to me, and with none having been received, the whole thing looked like a disaster.

As a last resort, I re-applied on-line in the last few days of January. Within 10 days I had received a conditional approval letter, went to a Woolworths store, did the 100 point check and have this week received the card and activated it over the phone.

The limit is about 10% of my base pay. I already have an existing HSBC credit card.

Did anyone pay a tax bill and collect points off doing it ?

Yes - done this twice. Paid quarterly GST & employee PAYG in January, personal PAYG & employee PAYG a couple of days ago. I use the ATO site. Got the points. Costs 0.65% in fees.

The Tax Office automaton lady is someone I can really bond with so I pay over the phone. The receipt numbers are really jumping so I guess there are quite a few folks paying using a credit card.
72k points get you coast to coast in j return Classic and at 0.65 cents a point it is hello to a sub $500 round trip in Australia provided the fuel levy does not kick up.

Rang Customer Service tonight to ask about an additional card for Mrs Shintaro. Apparently there is a system fault within their computers and no applications for additional cards can be processed until it is fixed.

The OP had no real idea when it was going to be fixed, offered to send out some forms so will see how that go's...!

Seems a pretty sloppy system for a platinum grade card. Still $89 for 16k sign up points & $1/1pt uncapped QFF direct sweep, I guess I cant really complain :-|

It's platinum in name only. Not marketed as one. Not charged annual fees like the rest of them.

Same story they told me last week, when I called to enquire about a supplementary card. I was apparently put on a mailing list for the forms "when they become available" (no eta)

FYI - I signed up with for the card and a supplementary card at the same time via the paper form. I just got my credit card in the mail yesterday - no sign of my wifes.

BUT she just got an email from Qantas FF welcoming her to the club (she gets free membership with the card) - so they've processed at least half of the supplementary card.

hmmm, really thinking about cancelling this card... over the last couple of months i have gotten

WWEDRCC - 16k points
ANZ QFF Visa and Amex - 20k points

I wanted cheap overseas travel insurance and read ANZ platinum is pretty good so called up and cancelled the original ANZ offer and applied for a Platinum set, so that should be another 20k points and they were going to pro rata reimburse me nearly all of the $95 fee i paid for the first basic level set of cards, so 40k points for $295 isn't to bad, comparable to other offers round plus get my travel insurance for free instead of the $4-500 it would have cost me to take it out on its own...

so now i have Visa 1pt/$1 and Amex 1.5pt/$1 for the next year and can't really see how WW card will benefit me and only adds to my credit card collection stopping me going for more cards... the one slight thing holding me back is if they do offer some good promotions for it... maybe i should just get the limit down to $500 or so...

so that should be another 20k points .

Except that T&C states:

New Applicants only. The 20,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer applies only once per new ANZ Frequent Flyer account.

But who knows...maybe their systems will not check.....but then again maybe they will.

Has anybody paid off (paid into) this card in person at a Woolworths supermarket...?

Is it a painless option...? Just thinking it might be an option for me on those times when I have excess cash and it might be easier than going into a bank...

Which also makes me wonder what looks I would get walking in there with $5K pocket money etc...

Anybody done this, I am guessing that since many Woolies employees never knew the card existed, then it may be a painful process...

I didn't know you could go to a bank to pay it off. I usually use the Bpay thing via the web, only trouble is that is takes aaaaaages for the payments to post.

I went into woolies when I maxed the card the other day. Went to the service desk and pulled a wad of 50's. Took about 10 minutes I suppose. The lady who helped me had not done it before though she had obviously been trained as she knew what she was doing ... just took it slowly on her first run.

Well, so long as you can make it past the hobo's out the front of the store intact you should be ok :)
