In case anyone's interested I just received my statement today with a couple of purchases from the LOTFAP on it, v favorable exchange rate AU more than US on all transactions and small charge for overseas use, kicking myself now as the rates from Amex weren't as good. I'm one of the few folks here without a Wizard/ 28 Degrees card ;)

This is interesting. The official fees for an international transaction is 4.5% (3% + 1.5%). This is why I have tended not to use this card for overseas purchases. Was this across all international transactions made on the Card on just some than received a favourable exchange rate?

3% 'Overseas transaction charge' + 1.5% 'Foreign currency conversion charge'

You would get charge one of these fees or the other, depending on the transaction. I can't see a circumstance where you would be charged both:

Overseas transaction charge:

– payable when you make a transaction on your account in a currency other than Australian dollars, or you make a transaction on your account in any currency (including AUD) that is processed by the card scheme or billed by the merchant outside of Australia.

Foreign Currency Conversion Charge

– payable each time a payment is made to your account in a currency other than Australian dollars.

Whoops! I didn't read it carefully. 3% isn't too bad then.

Westpac does have the two charges broken up though (overseas charge + conversion charge).

Interesting. Online they are still only showing the "current" card - the rewards are not QFF points, just "woolworths points" which can be redeemed for woolworths vouchers:

  • 1 point per $1 spent on general purchases2
  • 2 points per $1 spent within participating Woolworths group stores (shown below)2
  • 3 points per $1 spent on products purchased in-store at Woolworths Supermarkets & Everyday Mobile products purchased at Woolworths Supermarkets, BIG W, Woolworths liquor and BWS.
  • Every 4 months (with enough points) you'll automatically receive a shopping card to spend at participating Woolworths group stores (shown below)
Just got the Woolworth/Qantas card. It is a bit confusing... you have to accumulate Woolworths points to get the petrol discounts. This involves scanning the bar code on the back of the new combined card before it is swiped to earn the Qantas FF points (so I was informed by telephone support ). As the bar code is now on the back of the combined card, you do not need to keep the old Everyday Rewards card. From their site:

""Your Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas credit card is also your Everyday Rewards card. Before you pay, present your credit card at the check-out to be scanned. ""

A rep at Woolworths informed me you get 2 points (FF ?) for every dollar over the specified limits indicated.
Somewhere I read you can convert 2 Woolworths points for 1 FF point?

From their site:

Key Features
  • Bonus 12,500 points when you apply before 30 April 2011 and make a qualifying purchase by 30 June 2011.
  • Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent on most purchases
  • Your Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas credit card is also your Everyday Rewards card. Before you pay, present your credit card at the check-out to be scanned.
  • Earn an additional 1 point for every purchase over $30 at Woolworths Supermarkets and BWS (excluding Tasmania) and BIG W.
  • Earn an additional 1 point per $1 over $50 spent in one transaction at participating **** Smith stores.
  • As well as earning points anywhere you can use your card, the new Woolworths Qantas credit card comes with the benefits of the Everyday Rewards program built in. So you can earn points faster and also receive fuel savings and exclusive shopping offers – all in the one card

Interestingly this months statement came with an additional mailer that included an application form for an additional cardholder!

At least their systems are working well enough to flag that I requested an additioanl cardholder some months ago ;-)

Sux that they did not send me one...

But not that I need one exactly right now since this card is maxed to its eyeballs :shock::shock:

Foreign purchases show up as two transactions. One with the value converted to AUD and the other at 3% of the AUD value.

No QFF points are awarded on the 3%.

As for the rate; I used mine in NZ for a small purchase on the weekend.

  • 13 Mar 2011
  • NZD49.99 Invoice
  • AUD37.29 Charged
  • AUD1.12 forex charge
www.xe.com/ccc gives this:

ACTUAL BANK FEES for this purchase: 0.70 AUD ( 1.904% )

Total cost $3.16.

Hope they send me one as well then, only been waiting 4 months for them to get their act together ...

I just spoke with their customer service and they inform me that the additional cardholder form should be posted for download on their website in the next week or two but they are happy to post out a hardcopy form to anyone who calls in. They have no facilities for them to e-mail or fax the form out, but the completed form can be either faxed or sent in by post...

Got my additional cardholder application in the mail today (only 4 months after original request!).

Not sure how motivated I am to switch my partner's spend over from Amex......additional card holders have to provide their own QFF number and receive the points from their spend

Welcome to AFF wannerb21.

The way the description is worded is not the best I must agree. The general idea is that you're getting a 'bonus' point by using your EDR CC. So, 1 point per dollar over $30 at Woolies or Safeway ($50 for DSE and Big W), and a "bonus" point per dollar from the credit card itself (it's just they put the barcode for your EDR card onto the CC to make it one card to carry in your wallet rather than two).

You don't accumulate points to obtain petrol discounts. Spending the required $30 at Safeway/Woolies will automatically add a fuel discount to your EDR account. When you then scan your EDR card (the barcode on the CC in this case) at the Fuel outlet, your discount will be applied. If you've opted for points to be earned when you purchase fuel rather than the discount, then you'll get that instead.

The points earned via EDR are mutually exclusive to the points gained by using the EDR CC. They end up in your QFF account, but it's still really two separate products, just made a little easier by having one card.

There's no such thing as 'woolworths points'. All points earned are QFF points with both EDR and the EDR CC.

A rep at Woolworths informed me you get 2 points (FF ?) for every dollar over the specified limits indicated.

To be honest, it's amazing they don't know about the barcode itself. There's only been one time i've not had to tell the 'check-out chick' about the bar code. Most of them had no idea that it was on there, and when I hand them the card they look at me and say "oh you will just need to swipe it in the reader". WOW really don't seem to tell their front-line staff pretty 'everyday' type information, if you'll pardon the pun ;)

I've given up explaining; I gently reach out and scan the barcode myself.

Here's another one; for which the answer is obvious IMHO.

Woolies Liquor is advertising a product at 2 for $60. I know I can go to Dan Murphies and pay maybe $59.90 for the same.

By buying from Woolies I get a minimum of 30 QFF points and a 4¢ (or 2 QFF) per L discount ...

I was at d..k smith the other day and asked the guy to scan my card before swiping it for payment.

He tried to tell me that if the card was linked to my EDR account then it didn't need to be scanned, the swipe for payment would cover it. I politely insisted he scan it first.. :)
