Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card

I have just noticed I have a transaction that says

"interest for this statement cash" it is only for a couple of dollars but seems strange as I have never had a cash transaction.

Anyone else have this ?

Guess I will need to call them to find out why.

I've had mysterious small interest charges in the past that didn't appear to relate to anything. I couldn't be bothered spending 20 minutes in a phone queue trying to sort it out so I just put it down to incompetence.

Any chance that this relates to a cash advance / or a transaction treated as a cash advance such as a money transfer or online betting etc...?

Edit: Since these transactions are charged interest from the day you make them...

Hmm, called up today to check about paying off card and asked about getting fee waived for next year as i mentioned that other people i knew had gotten it... She said the bank can offer a fee waiver on an account anytime, depends on card spend, length of time open etc... There wasn't a fee waiver offer on my account...

As my renewal date is 8th December i said i would call back next week and see if there was one or else i would be closing it, might play a little more hard ball next time, tell them they can close it and i will reapply after a bit for free or else the thing about getting someone else to apply and i will get a supp card...

Roughly how much have you put through this card...?

Hmm don't know eh, haven't gone and added up all the different statements that have been sent out, might have to go do that before next week...

I did a couple of weeks ago go through my QFF activity statement to see how many points had come from the card, not sure if it was around 10,000 but then 5,000 of them probably came from my purchase of a new car at the start of the year, but i guess it all counts as spend... It was a funny year because i was also overseas for about 3 months in the middle which reduced the spend as well... I was looking at the points to see if i could in anyway justify paying the $89 fee and seeing that $5,000 was a once off, i came to the conclusion i couldn't spend $89 to earn 5,000-7,000 points or so... Expecially if I could close it and hopefully reapply for free and maybe get the 5,000 QFF points free as well if they didn't pick that i was a past customer...

Anyway, as much as i might like a $1/point card etc, etc, to accompany my $1/1.5 point Amex plat card, if i don't get a fee waive its getting cut up...

I put nearly 100K through mine so I guess that's why it was pretty easy to get the fee waived...

Do you have a partner...? Cancel yours, get her / him to sign up for $0, tell your partner to enjoy the 5000 QFF sign on bonus, sign yourself up as a supp card....Problem Solved...!

Anyone know if it is possible to avoid the Credit Card booking fee from Qantas International by using the "BPay" option when booking flights and paying using this card with BPay via the QEDRCC website...?

Don't mind paying a CC fee but $30 per pax is a bit rich I think...

...For card payments a fee of A$30.00 per passenger applies. Payments made using BPAY do not attract this fee however, check with your financial institution for other applicable fees or charges.

Or should I just use my ANZ Amex for 2 points per $1 (includes bonus partner point from Qantas)

Shintaro, nah, can't really use the partner strategy, but can threaten it and see where it gets me... :)

If i have to lose this one so be it, the reason so little has gone through it is that most of the spend goes on the Plat ANZ Amex at 1.5pts/$1 with just a few left overs going onto this card that don't accept Amex or that can't be bpayed.. Mainly things like health insurance, dentists, subway that sort of stuff.. Rent, fuel, shopping, maccas etc all go on the Amex....

And $30 seems like way to much of a surcharge to bother, seeing it is almost half the sign on cost of the Westpac card and you get 16,000 QFF points... I very rarely use cards to get points unless they come at almost no cost as the fees will nearly always end up getting you a ticket before the piddly amount of points adds up to anything... Unless it was something like a few bucks cc surcharge I would just pbay using cash unless it was a big trip worth thousands of dollars (and therefore points)...

QF booking system does not accept Bpay from credit card only from SAV/CHQ. Yes, $30 booking fee is rip off and I think the only way to avoid this is to avoid QF flight.

I will add that I am booking for 4 pax and the flights come to around $6k, hence is the $30 x 4 value for just an extra 6,000 QFF points (or double this if using my ANZ card)...?

Edit: using the ANZ card works out to around $0.01 per QFF, so its not fantastic, but not the worst deal around I guess... No free points, but not real keen on BPaying for flights... If Only I had a 1.5:1 card with bonus points for Q purchases... :-P

Hmmm, different equation for you lot on the east coast perhaps, but here on the west coast its going to cost me almost 18,000 points to get anywhere one way and i can fly J* to Syd/Melb/Den for around $150-200 and probably cheaper on Tiger...

So any credit card purchase which cost me over $100 for only 6,000 or 9,000 points (1/3 to 1/2 of award) doesn't sound like much value to me... Of course if 10,000 QFF points was what i needed to get the last points required for a RTW booking that might be a different story on the value assessment...

In general about 1 cent or a little over or less is about where i tend to draw the line as i don't redeem mine for upgrades to higher class so any greater cost than 1 cent tends to work out to be counter productive... If you use them to get J then it might add up...

Announcement on this months statement...
Announcing QANTAS as a Bonus Points Partner! From 1 December 2011, earn 1 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent using yourWoolworths Qantas credit card on selected Qantas products and services in Australia. The addition of Qantas as a bonus partner provides yet another great way for you to earn more Qantas FrequentFlyer points, so you can keep building your points balance and get rewarded even faster!Terms, conditions and exclusions apply. See everydayrewards.com.au for details.

So that now makes this a 2pt per $1 card on selected Qantas purchases...:D

They must have figured out the sheer lack of Qantas bookings going through these cards, since ANZ, Westpac & other cards have bonus points for Qantas purchases.... I know its still a $1/pt card (excluding the new Qantas bonus partner 2x points) but the value of this card just keeps getting better and better in my opinion...

That is a nice move on the Qantas points by EDR Woolies card.
I always pay any Classic flight redemption fees from Qantas on my Amex Ultimate as it has been a true 2.5 points per dollar to QF.

Hmm. I can't find a reference to this anywhere. I looked at my paper statement, snooped all over the EDR and EDRCC sites, my account .... I can't seem to find anything about _any_ bonus point partners. Got a link?

No link but here is a censored copy of my latest statement... ;)

It certainly is exciting news for everyone who uses Woolworths EDR card as their main card for earning QF points!

Thanks for the heads up on this shintaro10x.

For Int bookings, l'll still use my Westpac Earth because it comes with travel insurance.

So, has anyone heard any rumours about Coles/Virgin "flybuys" revamp?

Yep, the additional ½ point per $ (when it eventually posts) is a factor. ¹

¹ FWIW, the Earth Travel insurance is actually quite good.
