Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card

Announcement on this months statement...

So that now makes this a 2pt per $1 card on selected Qantas purchases...:D

They must have figured out the sheer lack of Qantas bookings going through these cards, since ANZ, Westpac & other cards have bonus points for Qantas purchases.... I know its still a $1/pt card (excluding the new Qantas bonus partner 2x points) but the value of this card just keeps getting better and better in my opinion...

I haven't seen this yet, but my last statement was 20 November 2011. Maybe it'll be on the next one.
It is listed on the "Rewards" page for the credit card however .. https://www.everydayrewards.com.au/...SmtFL1o2X0cxN0I0RDU0MDhUNDIwSTFKSE5PSkczMDA3/

I'll be cancelling my ANZ Visa/AMEX next time it comes around for the annual fee.

Yes the BIG 4 banks are really taking a hammering on their rewards or lack of rewards.
I think the free renewals must be the way they are holding on to customers or by throwing in some reward points for newbies.

Yes, & my ANZ & Westpac cards just lost some of their edge... :p

Since my Earth card was taken out and put down, I haven't had a card with a QF bonus point, and had been considering my options in that regard. This cahnge has plugged that hole for the time being :p

I'm not convinced the banks are really concerned at all. Most people never change. Everyone I talk to about changing cards, and getting annual fees waived by threatening to cancel either think I'm crazy (ie isn't it a lot of work to change all your direct debits) or that it's not worth it.

Yes, I think you are right. I just got rid of my long standing CBA card of > 10 years, and whilst they did ask why I was leaving and I told them their rewards program was uncompetitive, they didn't try even a bit to retain the business.

They either have enough customers to keep them happy, who are not churning, or they really are not that interested in the CC side of their business. Its probably the former. Using the CBA as an example again, they rarely, if ever, have promotions of free points (or any promo's)

Edit: Actually, part of the issue might be reward obfuscation. I discussed the uncompetitive rewards with my CBA loans manager whilst doing some other business. He was surprised I was earning more than 3 points / $ elsewhere (CBA Gold = 3 CBA points / dollar on AMEX). I had to explain to him that the "3" CBA points when used or converted to airline programs converts at a horrible rate therefore making them very low value each ...

Perhaps many folks take earn and burn at face value and don't really think about it? If the EDR card is earning 1 point / $ and the CBA card is earning 3 then the CBA card is better right?? Classic marketing

Ah, well i asked them to waive my renewal fee and they wouldn't so i cancelled it... The lady did offer me 1000 points if i would keep it open but i said no, i want the fee waived and she couldn't, so they have one less customer... Might see about a bit later in the year trying to open it up again for free... See if i can also get the 5000 pts as well...

What was your last 12 month spend through this card...?

You didn't read what a number of us have said. You must ask for a payout figure and actually pay the card off, then call to cancel. At that point, they tend to offer to waive the fee.

Well it's mentioned that I'll receive 2 points per dollar for Qantas transactions after 1 December on the statement I received today.
Oddly, I received 167 bonus points, but spent $287 with Qantas on 11 December ... I wonder how that works?

Was the bonus points specifically related to the Qantas spend...? The reason I ask is that I also was given some bonus points, however they are not related to a Qantas booking since I don't put Qantas flights on this card...

The bonus points you received may be related to the recent 2x bonus offer for all spend on this card at Woolworths Supermarkets etc... which was offered to many of us a few months ago

It wasn't a large spend, about $10,000 or so in the year perhaps?? Not sure exact figure...

And yes i called up in late Nov to ask if i could get the fee waived and that i would be closing before my Dec 8 renewal, she said there was no fee waiver listed in the system but to call back closer to the date, i called back early in Dec to get a pay out figure and that I would be closing,s till no offer on system to waive fee, anyway called up about the 6th or so to find the figure told her iw as paying and still no offer... Anyway, couple of transactions i had paid a few days before and they weren't coming through on the system for me to pay off so went to Woolies to pay the money to make sure it hit the account hopefully by the 7th to pay of any outstanding transactions as they wouldn't close it without being paid off, was worried i'd hit the 8th before account was all paid out and be hit with the fee... Long story short they said they would watch the account and as soon as payment was received would close the account before renewal fee was charged.. Lots of chances to keep me, i guess I wasn't a big enough spender??

With only a 10k spend for the year, I can now see why there was no fee waiver for you...

I had no issues getting a waiver but had a much bigger spend on this card than you, so I suggest you did not put enough through this card for them to justify an $89 retention credit...

BTW, my spend was just under $90k on this card for the last 12 months

I got no idea what my annual spend would be, a lot higher than $10k, but i put most of my spending through my Platinum Amex that gets me 1.5 points per $, the Woolies card was only for places that didn't except the Amex...

The way you tried to get a fee waiver was not the way others were successful, although I don't know everyone else's spend. You had to ask for the payout, make the payout a few weeks prior to the fee date, then call to cancel. At that point they just offer the waiver as they know you're serious about cancelling. Until that payment is made, they don't seem to have been happy to waive the fee.

Ah well, i will survive... The way they were describing it to me it sounded like someone higher up had to have put something on your account that you were eligible for a fee waiver, not sure if they did that with any other members but just didn't mention it to you etc... They definitely got the message i was serious, up to the last lady who offered me 1000 points to keep it open... So its closed and like i said, maybe in a few months i will try to reapply for a new card for free and see if i can snag the 5000 points on offer...

I am surprised how hard folks go at saving $89 in a way that could affect their credit file. If you now don't have a point a dollar credit card then you are back to running with a half a point card somewhere else.
I guess you get the enrollment points and then have to cancel that one as well.
If the credit supplier puts one black mark on your credit file you might regret doing that.
To me I have scored about $8,000 of retail travel value out of this card in the first year for $89 so I am a happy camper. No need to change a thing......

Cove, you know its just a game.. as per your blog. Also I am not sure it is possible to get a black mark on ones credit file, for just closing an account...!

Yes I agree this card is very good value, however I did call to get a waiver on the annual fee. For me a 10 min call to save $89 was worth it, after all, that's a potential earn of $534/hr lol

Each to their own, but if you are putting ~$25k through this one then I can't see any harm in a simple loyalty call...

My 2c worth
