Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

Still no targetted offers from WW, despite my lack of spending there.

Aldi has been getting a good run.

Yep, I think I'm off to Aldi today. I expect a handful of items will still be bought at Woolies, but I intend for them to notice the drop in spend.

I'm beginning to wonder if they don't give offers because I always use a 5% giftcard (on my now few visits)

They are about to send out offers to what they consider "inactive" or "lapsed" members (Not sure what is considered to be "inactive" or "lapsed").
For people they have emails for, there is a 3 week offer starting from the 25th for $30 spend, $5 instant save. Increases by $10/$5 each week.
For people they done have emails for (or who "don't open them"), there is 2 weeks of spend $x, earn $y via receipts.
Targeting 1 million members. (The general notice of "targeted" weekly specials goes to 3.3 million)

Other offers mentioned are for Cellarmasters and BWS.

Thank you for your insights. That sounds very interesting.

I wonder where that puts members who have been scanning their card but haven't received offers since the new program started.

This is the category I'm in. I have halved my spend at Woolworths. Often scan the card and the only emails I receive are from BigW.
I have checked my preferences with Woolworths rewards and they are the same as they always were.

I make a point of not scanning unless there is an offer or reward of some type.

If I have not used one of my 4 cards ina long time ten I might use it, just so that they know that I can still be tempted. I want my profiles to be of the type that I think that they will judge needs to be tempted. Plus I do not believe that they really want to reward spend as opposed to try and increase spend.

Another Sunday, another day of no Woolworths offers. I'll be doing a small shopping trip there on Monday or Tuesday but my bulk shopping is at Coles at the moment.

Strange things seem to happen sometimes.

Our family member who hadn't received an offer since the new rewards program started just got an offer. Looks like Woolworths Rewards have found their "missing" members. The offer is the same as the one mentioned above. We'd pretty much given up on this account.

I don't know why they sent the offer today though. It doesn't start until July 25.

I have not received a targeted offer of any kind from WW since mid March. Swapped around my spending patterns to prompt something from them.

I may cancel and start a new account to see if that makes any difference once I empty out my accured WW dollars.

Well, some people call me a cynic and others say prescient.

Most people do not look at the fine print (in their joy at apparently receiving something for next to nothing).

All they can think of is "Yes, yes, yes!"

And the next day or two they head out to spend the required amount and... and... then it hits them - it starts the following week.

99% of people just think, "I should have paid more attention to the email."

That is what the marketing folks want you to do - that is their plan. They get to tie up your spending for an extra week at no charge. Just like the "Pavlovian dogs" - once many people establish a routine they often stick to it.

Think of electricity accounts gas accounts, phone accounts (though changing), savings accounts, cheque accounts (and now for the worst) business or charity bank accounts.

Actually the very worst are "superannuation accounts". They are the 'stickiest' of the lot despite all the Industry fund advertising - even more so than term deposits or mortgages.

My rule for exciting (aka 'too good to be true' or "Trojan horse") offers - READ fine print 2x before enacting.

Dad received an offer as above starting next Monday

- week 1 spend $30 get $5 off instantly
- week 2 spend $40 get $10 off instantly
- week 3 spend $50 get $15 off instantly

Mum was starting to worry there have not been any offers recently.

That's interesting. It looks like the offers are a combination of Woolworths dollars or instant reduction. Our offer was $5 etc off instantly.
