Experience on using priority pass at cafe/bar

I use this 2-3 times a week. Occasionally I’ll add a guest and nobody has ever asked to see the person (or a boarding pass).

For anyone else wondering; I didn't have any trouble using my guest pass. I was even prompted to when clearly alone haha

I've seen reports on Whirlpool that for restaurants/cafes there is a limit of 1 'swipe/scan' per 3 hours. Anyone know if this is the arrangement for PP via Citi Prestige (which has unlimited visits for cardholder + 1 guest)?

the reference in Whirlpool relates to 3 hours between swipes at the same venue. Unlikely, they will allow you to just create unlimited separate orders upto $36 and paid via PP. Would enable you to feed the entire airport at no cost to you.

You can however, move from 1 venue to the other and use your benefit assuming there is more than 1 available. If you wanted to repeat this then as above wait 3 hours.

To clarify, my question is about using it at the same venue.

Using the same venue will prompt a “already scanned” message on the machine. There’s an option to “rescan” or something like that. One place at Sydney (the beer bar at the jetstar terminal) were a bit confused but just pressed rescan and ran with it. No idea if they got their money or not….

The Peroni bar at T1 very explicitly said “one use and one use only”.

I think that would be ripping the cough out of it really. You could just cruise all the venues and not risk a double charge.
As an aside, I am pleased to learn that my Prestige 2-person PP can be used at multiple venues on the same night at MEL.
In fact, I accidentally attended a "non-PP" venue at MEL in June and they accepted my card - in other words they were an unlisted PP cafe.
I see on the PP app that there are now 4 cafes and 3 lounges. Great news.

We are flying out of MEL in 2 weeks - we shall get food in one, then go to another for a $36 per glass wine.

Actually, no we won't.
We will get a decent "non-lounge" supper at ONE venue for $72 and then go to the lounge.
Cafe surfing is un-Australian!

The AFF email on 9 January included an article titled "The Trick to Get a (Good) Free Meal Whenever You Fly" states:

Not only can you use this benefit for yourself, but you can also invite a guest who’s flying with you each time at no cost. This means that if you’re travelling with a relative, friend or colleague, they can also get $36 worth of free food and drink at a participating airport eatery. That’s a total of $72 credit between both of you. (If there’s an airport lounge available, your guest can join you in there for free as well.)

That statement is absolutely NOT true! Guests are NOT free!

I have experienced this myself recently when my wife and I used my Priority Pass at Sydney International Plaza Premium lounge. I showed my Priority Pass card on my phone and assumed at the time that my two lounge visits would be used. I found later that I had been charged one lounge visit on Priority Pass and charged $35 for my wife even though I had two passes available on the card. I did not show my credit card.

I phoned Citibank and was directed to the Citi Premier Terms and Conditions which state:

The first two visits within each 12-month membership period from registration (membership year) are complimentary to the primary cardholder only, after which any additional visits by you and visits by your guests will be charged directly to you by Priority Pass at their ordinary standard rates.”

That article appears to be discussing the priority pass included with the Citi prestige not the Citi premier cards.

They are very different.

I can confirm that +1 and I both received the $36 benefit at the restaurant in BNE when using my Priority Pass issued by St George. It would seem there are various versions of PP depending on which credit card provides it.

If the StG issued is a 2 passes/year, you may see a $36 charge appear on your card in a few days if it's the same conditions as citi premier. Be interested to know.

Yep.
I made the identical observation a few pages back in this thread. Similarly to you, I got caught out by the server at one of the SYD cafes who said that I can use both passes, one for me and the other for Mrs mizzum. Later on only 1 pass was used and there was a cc charge for $36 (or whatever it was).
In my earlier post I think I even quoted the same paragraph from the t&c.
