Experiences on Qantas staff travel

I've heard it can be easier to travel in F than J, because not every staff member gets F, and not every passenger wants to upgrade beyond J.

It would be interesting to see how much of a pay cut she was prepared to accept with the idea of being allowed to fly first class - I assume unlimited.

She was pretty high up at QF, I won't name her or give any other descriptors as she's easily googled; but she's held a few key CEO positions of other entities in subsequent years.

Why? It's literally what every staff member has access to, it's not a CIC document. But sure will take it down.

In the booking engine, it gives out all the listed staff, their categories and date of joining.

QF can go on a fatwa - but if you’re happy put it back up! I’ve got access to it anyway … 8-)

although like Politician's "Gold Pass" which is similarly capped to the same number of years they worked there
and there were updates in 2016 when the service was updated

taken aback by the whole beneficiaries of the former included retired and deceased employees.
but when it's explained this way in 2016
it now makes sense

there's a reference in there to unaccompanied beneficiaries on page 10///
"A recent audit indicated that some beneficiaries flew more than 200 unaccompanied sectors in
a year"
so it got capped to 12

of course in 2022, the group of beneficiaries were expanded

Retired Captains, on staff travel, definitely do not have lounge access. Our buddy, who was a retired Captain was always a little peeved when we described the F lounge In Sydney. He then paid for tickets and could join us in the lounge.`

Which means she would have been what's called "F11". Basically a category that bumps everyone else, other than other F11s. A most hated group, as they take the best of staff travel, after being in the company for about 3 hours.

Captains on staff travel NEVER had lounge access. They did if on duty travel, but even with a first class boarding pass, it was never to the F lounge.

Mate of ours used it the other day to get to DFW…….. He only got on because the seat was broken …. He knew the deal though - upright for the whole journey.

You would probably get thrown off the plane, but anyone got a PDF of how to manually recline these seats?

My sister just got a job with QF mainline, in finance.

Does staff travel kick in the minute she starts? Or is there a cooling off period?
Tee hee, if she accepts the job, someone on here will be vey very very, and I mean very busy.
Open the doors wide open, questions will start en masse. ;)

Everything at Qantas is ranked. What position is your friend? Flight attendants are way down the list of priority, flight crew not too bad but the highest priority is senior managers. You could think you are on a flight and get pipped at the line but someone higher priority than your friend.

Finance stuff goes right over me head so don’t ask me anything cause I don’t ask her as it’s all gibberish to me lol.

Interesting there is a pecking order. I recall Coles and Woolworths have a ‘Top 50’ or something.

Let me guess.
1. C Suite
2. GMs
3. Senior Managers
4. Managers
5. Head Office Staff/ Pilots / Engineers
6. Cabin Crew
7. Ground Crew/Call Centre/Cleaners

He’s a beneficiary, but knows the drill.

I think for these kind of staff perks seniority in the business and length of tenure are often factors. So all else being equal someone who has been at the airline longer may have higher priority.

You don’t have anywhere near enough levels of management in there. You’ve forgotten all of the other companies, such as Jetstar, IT, QLink etc. Their management will trump any ‘normal‘ mainline staff member. They were telling new office hires in their interviews that they would have “higher priority than a 30 year Captain”, so that might give you an idea.

Basically I‘ve abandoned staff travel, and even the ‘free’ long service trips simply are not worth the risk. It was a good deal once, but it was poisoned by the disdain that management held for all non managerial staff.

3AW Rumour file confirmed today that Qatar are banning Qantas Group Eligible staff from Industry Discounted travel on QR services.

The caller may have been a disappointed Jetstar staff member.
